WINGHAWG1......Was hoping that you would see this. For my first time semi-building I am now happy with it now that she flys so well.

Deliveries began in 1950 under the Army designation L-19. Additional U.S. Army orders were soon added to the original order, as well as, orders for the United States Marine Corps. However, with the new orders went higher performance requirements, which resulted in the improved L-19E. Soon many foreign nations also purchased L-19's for similar missions that the U.S. Army used the aircraft for.

wheels 4009..
Permit me to add my congrats for an outstanding first job... I have been modeling longer than most readers have been alive, and the two most satisfying aspects of our sport are, rebuilding the "impossible" wreck,.. and kit bashing. .Expanding our skills by innovation is the lifeblood of modeling, also keeps the hands and mind active, and directed toward improvement. Soon " wheels" will open a Top Flight Warbird kit, spread the plans on the building board, and start assembling his own personal WarBIRD. If War Duck is any indication, it too, will be a winner.....

Eugene....thanks for the support......but.......I'M NOT THAT GOOD !!! But I am kinda proud of how it turned out. My Instructor at the
club gave me another good idea about adding "wires" from the stab to the rudder....I think that would really set it off. Gonna have to look
into that..
Winghawg1......I litstened to you about your conversion, but decided to still incorporate the center plastic joiner with the wing screw hole.
In so doiing I realized that when it was time to join the wings together, I didn't feel like there was enough area left to screw to once the
dihedral was taken out of the wings.......so.....my cousin thought we should fiberglass the plastic jointer piece to the wings themselves.
I think it was a great idea.....the wings are really strong now, and can still use the original wing bolt this way.

Greg,
Congrats on the Warduck. Looks great. Wish I had been there to see its maiden flight. I am sure Bob did a great job of checking it out for you. By the way, when do I get my turn to try it out lol.

whats going to be funny is when you start getting complements on your "ew" plane , and people making cracks about how you just "outgrew that ugly old trainer".

Well Wheels if I ever get back to Logansport, In we have to meet, but other than being born there I have only been back there back in the 80's. I didn't get your last post " Winghawg1......I litstened to you about your conversion, but decided to still incorporate the center plastic joiner with the wing screw hole. " I have used the center piece in all of the 3 I have done.
Man oh man it sure looks great. Next one I do will be done like Britbats, using the landing gear block instead of the other gear from a ultra stick, to much work to cut out and reenforecing and stuff.

Winghawg1......sorry.....I thought when I read about your modifications, you didn't incorporate the center plastic
joiner........my mistake. But anyway, I liked what you did to yours taking the dihedral out of the wing. Its amazing how well this thing flys now. I know that Britbat disagrees about the Nexstar, but mine was really bad. THIS SEEMS TO BE A "WHOLE NEW PLANE" NOW !!! I feel like now "I" am flying the plane......instead of it "flying me" !!!
Seems like I was always having to react to its flying characteristics, instead of me being in control.
I hope this thing now becomes a "staple" in my inventory and just stays around as a really fun flyer to take to the
field with me regardless of what other planes I take. So far.....so good........time will tell.

Wheels -- It will look even better & go a bit faster if you close in the nose with a built-up cowling -- you will get better penetration, which will give more entrance speed into vertical maneuvers & help in upwind legs in windy conditions.
I'm glad that it is working well for you.
It can also handle more power -- like a .61

Britbat.....sounds like some good ideas.....would like to see some pics if you have any. Right now it has an OS 46 but I bet your right
about the bigger engine too. I was thinking about next time I am around someone who crashes a P51 I would like to have the
scoop that hangs from the under side of the P51 and incorporate it into it as well.
Also want to add the cables from the rear stab to the rudder........and am still thinking about some sort of belly pod from a model
if I can find the right one.
Thanks

Nice job on the War Duck. How did you remove the dihedral from the wing? I'm considering converting my Nexstar to a tail dragger and would love to flatten the wing. Making it a taildragger would be easy but I'm a little stumped with the wing. If you remove the plastic coupler than you have to make a different way to attach the wing. It appears from your pictures that you retained the plastic coupler. Did you remove the metal bar as well?

dl3740...Thanks for the compliment on "The Duck". Yes....taking the dihedral out of the wing was really pretty easy with the Nexstar.
I retained the metal rod.....but first put it in a vice and bent it. Taking time to only bend a little at a time to get the desired angle.
As for the plastic center piece.....I still retained it.......but.......found that with the dihedral out of the wing it was now much flatter and only
left a little "edge" to attach the factory plastic piece......so......I first drilled holes alone the length of the plastic piece where it attaches to the wing and filled the holes with toothpicks, then breaking them off and sanding smooth. Next....I figerglassed BOTH sides of the plastic piece to each wing........then used bondo filler........sanded smooth and painted it to match the monocote. It really turned out nice and best of all
it is very strong. Also I wanted to keep the factory screw set up for the wing. I hate rubber bands.
Let me know if you need any further assistance or if you would like to calll, I would be more than happy to fill you in more. You will love
the way it flys and handles afterwards.....especially making it a taildragger.

Very cool! That's a darn fine job. Tell us some of the details of what you did.
I wonder if anyone has tried a clipped wing or semi-semetrical wing for the Nextstar?
