Another Beginner Build - Sig Somethin' Extra

OK, I've seen that type mail box before too. Just never been a victim of it.
Why do you think it is called "Snail mail"? [:'(]
Did they give you a USPS tracking number or was it just general Parcel Post?

Standard mail, so no tracking number. That's why when I called Monday, they told me I'd have to wait until Friday to see if it shows (because the USPS requires 10 business days before you can claim a package lost).

I don't know. I'm pretty sure it's not their fault, and the person I talked to when I called on Monday was very helpful and nice.
Mostly, I'm ready to never ship USPS again.
Oh yeah, big surprise here, I didn't get my shipment today either. [:@]

Kiswa,
I know that you're having a hard time with them, but as of late I've been really impressed with USPS. In a new business venture we looked at all shipping service, and for what we're shipping UPS and FedEx (I know bruce88123 is gonna kill me for saying this
) couldn't touch USPS. So far we've been really happy with them.
Just my 2¢ worth

You're probably right. I'm sure this is just a fluke and my package missed a stop somewhere on the line or something.
Generally, I've never had trouble with any of the major shippers. UPS, FedEx, DHL, USPS; they've all worked well much more often than not. It's just that this time is the one that's happening now, and I want my covering so I can finish my plane!

You get my point right? You can pretty much ignore anything mean I say about any shipping company; generally, I'm just venting. I seriously doubt I'd ever stop using a particular service unless something worse than a lost package that is easily replaced happens.
I just need to vent for this particular situation.

WOOHOO!!!
So... I just went out the front door to grab the newspaper and I almost stepped on a brown cardboard box that was tucked neatly up against my door sill. I hadn't noticed it when I came home yesterday (I only see the front door from the street as I park in the garage and go straight inside) even though I've been looking every day this week.
Anyway... bet you can't guess what was in the box. Okay, bet you can guess! I got my covering!!!
My boss is going to be out Monday, until some time in the afternoon, and I have six hours of extra time (I worked as a contractor for one day before she hired me) so I'm thinking I'll take six hours off Monday and get back into covering!
Of course, I'll also attempt to convince the wife that I should get some covering time in this weekend too. Saturday is pretty shot though, as I have to go to a wedding for one of my wife's co-workers (well, two actually, they both work at the same company; just different divisions).
Anywho, just to clarify, I GOT MY COVERING!!!

Yeah, but the real burning question is:
Did they send you the right color?
BTW - that would have really sucked to walk out the front door and step on it after all this delay.

And yeah, it was the right color.

And Bruce... you know what's coming... [sm=bananahead.gif]

Yep!
Anywho, I'm off work in 15 minutes, and the wife isn't home until a little after 5pm (usually) so I'm thinking I'll at least finish off the wing that's missing it's top covering. And maybe I'll get the vertical fin covered too, we'll have to see. I remember covering taking a long time to do (it's been so long ago, I'm not really sure how long it's going to take anymore).
Hopefully, in just a couple hours I'll have at least one more photo to add to this thread and get things back to my build again!
Maybe I'll post some catch-up photos too... what do you guys think?

(Didn't want bruce to get too comfortable with the hay, you know...
)I'm getting a *little* closer to covering mine. I've got the wings and control surfaces filled and sanded. Now I just have to finish shaping and filling the fuselage and cowl, and then give it all the last "extra-fine" sanding - then I'm ready to cover. But since I've got a window with (potentially) decent weather tomorrow, I'm probably going to try to get some more stick time on "Tigger".
Just out of curiosity, any thoughts or opinions on my 4th plane/3rd build? I'm torn between the CG Sukhoi and the GP Ultimate. I already have the Sukhoi kit, but Tower is running a pretty tempting sale on the Ultimate ($109.99 + $10 Tower gift certificate)

I would build either of those, krossk. In a heartbeat. I'd take the Sukhoi over the Ultimate if size and cost weren't a factor. I'd just think it's more fun to fly. And you've already got the CG kit. . .
Buy the Ultimate now and build it later. Get that Sukhoi in the air.

Definately buy the Ultimate now. You can make the decision later. Has there ever been a 2 plane simultaneous build thread? [sm=bananahead.gif] Now that could be a challenge. [sm=drowning.gif] A kit in the closet is worth 5 at the dealer.

For this afternoon, I only got to cover the top of the left wing panel and the root rib of said wing panel.
Attached are photos of how the plane looks now. I'm looking forward to seeing it with some more clothes on!
EDIT: For comparison, the previous photo of the top of the plane is here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfi...95/Ql35504.jpg

Hey all! I made it home - finally. One heck of a long trip, and boy are my arms tired from all that flying!
Kiswa, glad you got the covering(finally), I was getting all set to send you a roll or two that I had stashed when I started reading a few minutes ago, but it looks like you got your covering. Can't wait to see a video, really good idea! (finish building the plane first
)
I've always had real good experiences with Omnimodels, been a customer since 94-95 or so, zero problems, even overseas. (better than tower! [:@] )
Speaking of really good customer service, I ordered a couple sets of plans from Sig a couple months ago. When I got home, I had a small box from sig, which was about 16" long. I thought that was pretty odd, so I opened it up.... and found they had sent me the instruction books, not the plans! arrrgh!
I called them up today, and told them about that, they are sending me the plans now... Got the instruction books as a "freebie".
No hassle at all, very professional and polite. Kudos to Sig! [sm=thumbup.gif]

The problem wasn't with OmniModels. They even said that if I hadn't received my shipment by Friday (today) that I should call back and they'd overnight a new order. The problem was with the USPS and them not getting my order to me very fast at all.
But hey, it got here and I can get my model covered! That's the important part.

I managed to sneak in a little covering time while the wife was reading her magazines.
I now have the tail feathers entirely covered!
Well, except for the overlay on the vertical fin and rudder....
