He put it through the paces. Aileron rolls, a loop, vertical climb with rudder inputs (wagging the tail). He said it flew great and thanked me for letting him maiden it ('cause it was an easy maiden apparently). It was a lot of fun for me to just watch and see that it flew so well.
I did take my trainer up later on, and that was crappy. I've got to go back over it and make sure everything balances and all surfaces are neutral (I don't think they are anymore). But that's another story.
I do hope that this thread convinces more people to start building their own kit. It's the most fun I've had with RC yet! If anyone has any questions they think I can help with, consider this an open invitation to PM me, or to post in this thread. I've received so much help here at RCU that I've got to give some back!

Well done, kiswa! Once avgain, I humbly retract any doubtful thoughts I had about your choice of colors - that looks GREAT in the air - even in slow-res video! I'm getting really excited about finishing mine - even though it will be a hangar queen until the spring thaw. Give yourself a big pat on the back and take Mrs. kiswa out to dinner to thank her for her patience. You couldn't have done it without her....
... permission![sm=bananahead.gif][sm=bananahead.gif][sm=bananahead.gif]
(Just don't ask for the next one without flowers and jewelry!)
So now we're all waiting for your FIRST-HAND flight report. (You didn't think you were off the hook yet, did you?)

Congrats on the maiden, even if it wasn't by you.
Judging by the photos, I know what your next build needs to be, a decent field box. Honestly now, a pail? [:'(]

Oh boy, that was a great maiden on that video. Pretty good quality for a digital camera.
WOW! That coverin scheme looks even better in the air. You sure did a fine job of getting everything right and looking good.
I know when I first flew my Funtana 40 by myself, I did just about throw up. I only flew for like 2 1/2 min and finally just HAD to land thinking I was going to turn over that blow chunks.
Anyways, we need a FULL maiden report and everything. This this guy do any knife edges, and if so how were they; could they be held long or just for short distances.
Can't wait for some more videos and your report.
Again, everything looks incredible. What's your next build going to be. Once you go kit, you can't go back to ARF!

I think I want my next build to be a bipe. I'm thinking Sig Hog Bipe actually. But that's going to have to wait at least a year.
Oh well, I've got a fun plane to fly until that next kit anyway.
By the way, it's not a bucket!
It's a Spanish potato chip can....
It holds everything but the toolkit you see, so it works just fine for me!
Oh yeah, knife edge, that's one thing he didn't do. Everything else I think I covered in that post with the big 'Thanks everyone!' at the bottom.
I'm glad to hear that more of you like my covering scheme now that you've seen it in action. I asked a guy at the field about it and he said he doesn't even have to turn around to see it. He could see the reflections in the sky. Guess what he gets? [sm=bananahead.gif]

Well, the wife's from Spain and they happen to have good potato chips (they're really thick and fried in olive oil). I put on about 15 pounds from eating Spanish snack foods a year or two back. It was so worth it, that stuff is good!

Lemme get some of that Spanish stuff![sm=bananahead.gif]
The knife edge, I couldn't get to do really well, just wouldn't hold it long enough. My Funtana 40 will though, and will do KE loops too.
Hope you are having fun and get out there for some more flying and tell us some more thing. When are you going to fly it. I don't think you have already. You're going to love flying this plane.
Best of Luck

I've had 2 SSE's and neither of them would knife edge very. I added extra rudder on my second one and it still wouldn't do too well. I think that may needed a higher torque servo for the rudder to hold a knife edge, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet.

Well, I guess I can live without knife edge flight (never done it yet, so...).
And you're right iflynething, I haven't flown her yet. If the weather permits, I plan to make several flights this weekend. :-)
My in-laws are coming to visit (maybe) and I'm going to take them out there with me (at least for a little while).

Hi Ken
The only way that mine will hold a knife is wide open and into a good strong wind, then only for about 100 yards or so. I think SIG needs to remove the part of their ad that states " Lay it up on it's side and knife edge into the next county " Them folks must have been standing on the county line !!!. I think it may need a taller fuse to give it more lift. Other than that this is the must fun I've ever had flying an RC plane.

This plane is a fun one whether or not it will knife edge. I have to say a low and slow knife edge does look great coming down the runway. The SE is just a fun all around plane to fly and can be just a little floater. I don't think the wing loading is that high, so you can have LOADS of fun with some head wind. I remember one time I was flying mine before I totaled it and I was in like 15mph winds and I was flying backwards. It was crazy! It's awesome just to see a plane floating horizontally.
Kiswa, what prop did you say you have on that engine. I switched to a 12.25x3.75 and was kinda hovering. I still needed a little more power, put my OS 46AX would really pull along that plane.
Hope you can get some flights on it. When mine maidened I was telling the guy that was maidening it, "Man, it really flies." He said, "Well isn't that what a plane is supposed to do?" That was supid of me to say, but to see my plane fly was great. I'm you are more honored because you actually built yours and mine was an ARF.
Get to flying, you're going to love this thing.

Hey bruce,
I wonder if kiswa is pulling out leg and has 10 builds under his belt like jmneissa tried to pull on us?
JK with you kiswa, bruce knows what I'm talking about.
Again, kiswa, your SE looks great. We need another full flight video!!

Thanks guys! I'll try to get some more flight videos in the future.
I'm really looking forward to flying this weekend, but I'm not sure how much flight time I'll get. I'm almost out of fuel, and the LHS is on vacation this week.
I may only have enough for one or two flights before I'm all dry. I know I'll be going by the LHS when he opens up again next week and getting another gallon of fuel!
Anyone got any spare 10% Omega they can overnight to me?

Surely you can borrow a little fuel at the field. And buy extra fuel, it's cheaper than car gas (well, almost). I always have at least one full gallon at home plus whatever I am running on. Be sure to rotate so it doesn't go bad. If you don't fly in the winter months, just let your supply dwindle in the fall. We fly all year here.

I do the same as Bruce. I buy fuel by the case. Before I put the last gallon into my flight box I will try to get to the LHS and pick up some more. Even if I don't, my flight box holds 2 gallons, so I can still fly for a bit off what is in my flight box. Also, a lot LHS will give you a bit of a discount if you buy fuel by the case. So it saves a bit of money if you can buy it like that.
We don't shut down for winter either. We don't fly every weekend during the cold months, but we still get out often enough.

HEY KISWA GO TO SYNTHETIC FUEL. I switched from Omega 10 and 15% to Coolpower 15% 100% Synthetic and I don't have ANY OF THE MESS I had with the Omega that had Castor. Especially flying that Omega with my helicopter was a total mess and when I switched to the synthetic, it made all the difference. I know you might have a certain fuel, but just take the Coolpower into consideration, or any fuel with synthetic. You won't have HALF the mess to clean up after a flight, even a whole day of flying. Just some food for though. I know you probably perfer one type fuel over another, but I'm just telling ya. But Omega DOES have Castor, rigth?
Can't wait for some more videos.

That part was actually for the benefit of the other members. I know where Florida is, it's where most of the hurricanes go.
