Im in te navy stationed in maryland and always wanted to get an RC plane/helo
for starters i wanted to try get something that comes together all in one box or someone to link me every peice to buy at once
as far as helo I found this and just was wondering of your thoughts http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/163130.asp
as far as planes i really like WW2 style planes but want something that would be good for begginner. if thats not possible, anything that looks streamlined and not those plain looking all one color.
as far as budget goes i dont really want to spend too much I'd say 300 would be limit, 200 desirable above sight is just apealing cause of the free shipping to active duty military
any tips, advice welcomed and thanks

As a former Squid myself (FC2) Let me be the first to welcome you.
Typically you would start with a high wing trainer because they're a lot more forgiving and can take a beating. I would make one suggestion for you to look at. Hangar 9 makes a P-51 trainer plane which looks like a P-51 but fly's like a trainer and is fairly durable. A friend of mine has one and I've flown it several times. In my opinion it does fly just like a trainer. It is a Ready To Fly (RTF) airplane meaning it has everything you need except the fuel & field accessories you'll need to start it.

It is a little higher than your budget, but it is a warbird.
If you're looking for something a little cheaper just to get a plane in the air I'd recommend the Tower trainer http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXCXF4**&P=0 It fly's very well and is one of the typical high wing trainers I described earlier.
I can't really help on the heli front. I have never flown one.
**Edit**
Also, I would strongly recommend finding a local club to join because your plane won't last very long if you try to go it on your own. You may even check around with your local clubs to see if they have club trainers. My club has several trainer planes for new people such as yourself to come out and learn how to fly on so you can learn to fly while your saving up for that PTS Mustang.

I don't know squat about heli's but this would be a good trainer for you

most military shaped planes have poor training characteristics.
This is the closest to a military trainer plane and it is outside your budget

The one I listed from Tower is a fine little trainer and leaves you some money for fuel and starting equipment and misc things you will need. Check around your base and community and see if there is a local club or navy club. Also check your local Hobby shop (LHS) and here
http://www.modelaircraft.org/clubsearch.aspx for a club. GET AN INSTUCTOR. Do not try to do this on your own or you will be throwing your money away because it it is not as easy as it looks. If you join a club the instruction should be free and you will meet a bunch of nice guys also interested in this hobby.

Hi
What about alpa trainer of Hangar 9, its also RTF, it comes with 4 channel quattro radio, and .45 Evolution PTS (progressive trainer system), its really easy as compared to P51 Mustang, but depends upon your skill, naturally with those airplanes of Hangar 9 one advantage is the flight simulator, which is cockpit master, thought its not very good simulator, but it gives a fair good idea about gimbals, about your hand movements I mean your thumb on controllers, how many times you crash, your plane is there. Hangar 9 is also releasing a simulator called FSone with maximum best features, but its gonna be more than $200 with controller and radio like buddy box. I would say Alpha 60 trainer is best choice of Hangar 9. I crashed my Mustang but after doing many solos on my high wing trainer, I can fly confidently, but you are all right, an instructor at a local club is must, without an instructor, its really impossible to fly, I dont wanna discourage anyone, but its my short experience as Im also a beginner, but confidently fly solo. I welcome you hoggardusn in this hobby and wish you all the best.
here is the website of hangar 9 planes http://www.hangar-9.com ofcourse horizon hobby people are the one who deal with hangar 9 products in Illinois Chicago.
Happy flying

With RC airplanes at least you can buddy box it for training. The training is usually free when you join an RC club and you will save more from saved planes than the price of the club membership fees. With a helicopter you are pretty much on your own because by the time an instructor realizes that something is wrong, its too late to do any thing about it. The helicopter has all ready crashed!![8D]

Take this advice from a retired Senior Chief. Find a local club and go out to their field and check it out. If you like what you see, join the club and use the club's trainer to learn on (part of the bennys of joining a club). Once you have learned to solo then consider buying an airplane. The P-51 trainer is a good choice. I think it is made by Hangar 9 and can be modified to fly just about any way you want to, from trainer to sport/warbird. Also find the various hobby shops locally and go talk to them. They are usually helpful and may give discounts to club members.
Forget about the helicopter until you have some flight time under your belt. They are difficult to fly and require flight experience if you want it to last.
OK, that is about the best advice I can give you. Good luck and check back here once in a while and let us know how you are doing.
