AMA buddy box question

If you have the Nexstar RTF then neither buddy box is going to help you, as the RTF normally comes with a Futaba radio. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in order for this offer to help you'll have to have either an Airtronics or JR radio installed in the plane (master radio).

Since Futaba seems to have been around longer than all the others wouldn't you think the AMA would offer that style of buddy box?
Also I thought I have seen cords from Futaba to JR or was my mind playing tricks on me?

I just got through with this offer.I also have a Nexstar select.I went with the JR.I recieved it in about 8 weeks. When you get good enough to build another plane you can use it with a compatible reciever in the plane.

I have run into a similar problem but I have a JR Radio, but I've been told by the AMA not to expect the Buddy Box for 10-12 weeks from the date I signed up. and i don't want to wait that long to train. Since most of the flyers in my club use Futaba radios, I went out and bought the JR to Futaba trainer cord. This should be available at your LHS of on line from Horizon Hobbies. The cord allows you to connect you to connect a JR radio to a Futaba radio for training.

Thanks oldhippy...
One more dummy question....a buddy box is just a very slimmed down transmitter, right? Does it have it's own batteries or does it use the master's?

JR & Spektrum buddy boxes have batteries. All of the others I know of draw power from the "master" TX.
A fully functional TX can also be used as a buddy box. Just NEVER turn the power on in any of them. It's automatic as needed. Turning on a std TX when used as a buddy box will result in an unwanted transmission unless the RF module is removed or the crystal.

I have a new Spektrum DX7 but have never used a trainer or buddy box. I used to fly a lot back in high school and am now getting back into the hobby. I want to get the buddy box for a friend that is new to the hobby to help learn to fly on. This promotion seems like the perfect opportunity to do this.
BTW..unless I misread an earlier post. AMA's website says that the JR buddy boxes do come with the cord.
Does JR have a website link showing more information about this buddy box system?
Thanks for your help.

This appears to be a NEW JR trainer box coming out soon

There used to be a "Quattro" buddy box too but I can't find a link right now.
There should be something on this in YOUR manual.
