Hi. I have a pickup I use to transport my plane to the field. Currently I just put the wing on a blanket and cradle the fusulage in my field kit tote. It's not exactly secure. The other day I was cut off while driving to the field and everything slid into the truck's cab. I thought for sure the rudder was broken.
Are there any plans or pictures that show how to assemble some sort of way to transport plans a little more securely?

The simpleist way is to use a sheet of plywood that fits the bed of the truck. Then use some small screw eyes or cup hooks , placed where you need them to anchor the plane and wing with rubber bands. Then the shock cord style bungee cord to anchor your field box. You can drill holes and mount 1/2 dowels upright if you want to attach the wing{s} to save space. If you do that place a piece of soft foam around the dowel, and against the plywood to prevent chaffing of the wing covering. If you don't have a cap or tonue cover on the truck, keep a large garbage bag handy for those sudden showers that pop up, you can cover the plane and wing to keep water out of the electronics and servos. Total cost approx $25.00 Being able to transport planes back and forth safely PRICELESS!!

You may try making a cradle(s) out of PVC pipe.
they run cheap. You will need elbows and other fittings depending on your
design. you will need the glue and foam covers too.

Check this thread out. There are several posts that show cradles made for transporting in the bed of a truck

My wife had a set of wrist weights that are kinda like bean bags, shaped like bagels. They're flexible but heavy, relatively speaking. i just put down two of them and place the wheels in them . Works with wheel pants or open wheeled, moves around as necessary and stores about as easily as a pair of socks.

With a cheap tarp from the $ store you can cover all the stuff -- including the new stuff when you visit the local hobby shop -- and keep it out of the sun, then the net really secures everything. I don't know today's prices but I doubt it will be over 12-15 yankee dollars. It's a very handy and effective little critter.
Don't be scared off because it looks all tangled up. It really comes all apart for use real fine.
edit replace 4 with $

I am just now working on this problem and have come up with this idea.
I have a bed liner with slots for 2x4's at about half level. I will rip a 2x4 and come up with two 2x2's.
I'll run these accross the bed both front & rear in these slots. I will screw a sheet of 3/8" plywood to the top and paint all of the above.
This will give me a space under the plywood about 12" tall that is protected from the wind and rain. This will allow me to slide my Rapture 40 under without removing the wing.
This will give me room to store chairs, cooler and pop-up on top as well as keep the plane secure while out of the truck like in the partking lot of a store.

I drive a Toyota Tacoma and needed a way to transport my planes as well. I picked up two adjustable, spring loaded shower curtain rods, and adjusted them to the bed of the truck. I place the main landing gear close to one rod and rest the tail of the plane on the other. I then just use bungee cords to strap the landing gear and tail to the rods. The rods are quickly removable, cheap, and can be adjusted for my longer fuselages or taller landing gear. Wings lay right next to the plane and can be secured to the rods as well!

I have a topper on my truck and use 2x4's with padding attached. The two by's lay across top of bed where the topper attaches and are held in place with "c" clamps. Put the fuse on those and bugee them down. Bed has a rubber liner, lay the wings in the bottom. I can haul three 40 t0 60 size planes in comfort in my Isuzu.
Cab gets alittle crowded with the tool box and radio case......No room for passengers on my way to the field ! Although I haven't tried to carry larger planes, I am plannig on carrying my quarter scale Cub to the field this weekend for her maiden...............I may have to re-configure!
