I have two cats, one indoor and one outdoor. The indoor cat has never been outside but has two bird feeders close to windows for entertainment. The indoor cat loves getting near a plane.

This is a Balsa USA ¼ scale cub that I picked up at an auction in April. The cat adopted us about three years ago. She just wondered in to the neighborhood with a pack of about 15 cats. We actually trapped her twice in a live trap and took her to the country. After twice we decided to see if we could tame her down and started feeding her.

LOL! This topic cracks me up, I just got online. I would've thought at first blush this demographic would not have cats, since we are largely men and men typically not cat people. But there lies me, I'm too busy as a single dad with work and my kids and my chores and the laundry and last of all my airplanes, and the last thing I have time and $ to do is walk a dog get him to the vet regularly and figure how to keep him happy nightly. So I DO have a cat. She is totally self-sufficient, but still demands my attention when I'm around, even if it means I have to toss her off the keyboard while I'm typing this, or working with my airplanes. I love that damn cat. So chalk me up for a cat person!!!
Oh and I do have a cute picture of the damn cat that I will post if I can find it. BBL with that.

And here's just another thought that's WAYYYY off topic: God made these domestic animals for humans, all humans, as a gift. They help us through... before or after, or even if never we're blessed enough to raise our OWN kids. This pet--this living being--needs and wants to be with YOU-- a different kind of animal 20 times his size-- more than anything else in the world. What other proof of God do you need?

I ended up with a pair of cats. I didn't really want them but they were a package deal along with the girlfriend. I was at the pet store today and saw 5 puppies that were 1/2 golden retriever and 1/2 Australian shepperd up for adoption. I may have to try and sneak one home. We also have a saltwater tank with a clown fish and some other assorted marine life, a freshwater tropical tank and a beta fish.

I think mbilar1 got it right on with that cat philosophy. I also think it's likely that the men who hate cats are afraid if they are seen liking them that it will make them look sissyfied or something. Too bad for that insecurity, they are missing out on something incredible. Cats have amazing insight into their human companions. They ask for very little and give a great deal in return. They can be very calming and can be strong natural sleep aids. They sacrifice their precious time for us and never hold a grudge. They usually try to learn what is expected of them. They always learn discipline better with a kind hand than with fear. They usually mean well. As with any animal, there are unlimited types of cat personalities running the gamut from bad to good which also depends on one's point of view. I have been fortunate to have some incredibly personable cats. They never get into anything, break things or make messes. They are totally loyal. They always stay around the house when they are let out. They usually come running when I call them. All my R/C stuff in my work area is completely safe. It doesn't interest them in the least.
Our (my wife and I, no kids, except our cats
) cat and best friend Felix of 18 years had a major influence on our lives. We were there when his mother gave birth to him. I found he had fallen to the bottom of my golf bag. It was sitting under a stack of boxes where his mother had her litter. He passed away in my arms a year ago this month. Naturally we were devastated, but that is life. My wife and I built a memorial over his grave and the cat statue looks a lot like him. I was closer than ever to him during the last 2 months as I took care of him day and night when he couldn't walk much anymore and now I only wish I would have devoted even more of my time to him throughout his life. It's easy to forget how fast their little lives go by. Felix was very laid back. He was a watcher. Sometimes we called him the janitor because he was so meticulous and tidy with his litter box. He never had any interest in chasing wildlife with one exception, chipmunks. That was his only one and passionate vice. I swear Felix could smell a bucket of chicken before my wife even pulled into the driveway. He would sit patiently close by with big wide anticipating eyes. We always shared with him his favorite, juicy breast meat, that he loved with a passion. Felix always visited me in my R/C workroom in my basement. He would just come down and sit in the doorway and watch me. I always felt him watching and when I would turn to look, there he was and I would always stop what I was doing to spend some time with him. I keep his picture on my Windows background and I still light a candle every night on his memorial. He will be in our hearts forever. Then came Ernie...

ArCeeFlyer, that is a beautiful cat. I agree to your thoughts about cats as companion. Im also deeply sorry for your loss, I had Daniel, who passed away last october. There is a picture of him on the first page of this thread. He was 13 and Ill never forget him. Now we have Don Vito. Ill post a picture later.

Well my current cat Patience is the Replacement Cat for Tiger who we adopted as a kitten, but succumbed to FIP a month after we got him. You touched me about the cat dying in your arms, because Tiger basically died in my daughter's arms. She gave him comfort in his last hours, though we went to bed and then he went and hid far under the king-size bed to die, as if to hide himself from my kids finding him dead. I looked high and low the next morning until I found him. The kindly old veterinarian who returned my call was willing to meet us to see him Sunday morning, but he didn't last through the night. Sunday morn he offered to dispose of the body, but he also suggested we might bury him in the back yard. Exactly what I was thinking, to sort of teach a lesson about life and death. I wrapped him in a towel and went in the backyard and dug a hole and then gathered the kids to tell them I found Tiger, passed away during the night. We said a few words and burried him with lots of tears. We planted a Hyacinth over him which blooms every spring to remind the kids that Tiger's in heaven.
My daughter, who begs me every night to go for a walk like she's part dog, has a pickup line she always says to passing people walking their dogs. She says without fail, "I like your dog!" hoping for a chance to pet the dog on our walks. Cracks me up. Gotta love it all.
I won't go on, lest Ken oust us to the clubhouse or worse!

I do search and rescue work and I go out after heavy rains, storms, etc and rescue dogs and cats stranded on the Delaware River Islands.
11 Years ago I rescued a cat, got him back on the main land and he was looking at me with those big golden eyes.
He was Black and White and he was brave because as frightened as he was, he was hungry and took the risk of eating food from my hand so I named him Rambo.
I had to put Rambo away last Nov.20th 2006.
Like the person who made the other post I wish I had spent more time with him.
He and my other mascots are at a place called Rainbow bridge waiting for me.

Here is a picture of my trusty shop assistant, a miniature poodle. Not only does he provide company in my little workshop, but also at the flying field, where he has become friendly with several of my fellow club members. While he likes to chew on socks, tear empty toilet paper rolls into small pieces etcetera, he has never ever damaged damaged anything in my workshop.

He's a cute one and I bet he's a better pal then you think he is.
We all have our little friends and funny stories of what they did.
Many VETS will take in a dog or cat and neuter them then let them go again.
Some of them decide to hang around so the VETS feed them and pay for food out of their own pocket.
I donate $10.00 a month plus food I get cheap at the dollar store or sometimes the manager at the ACME will sell me the canned food by the case at store cost.
Remember too, Don't eat Chinese food.
The dog or cat you save could very well be your own.
Don't laugh because I did have one Chinese establishment closed up.
All I did was stand by the door and let the people know they may be eating the areas missing cats and small dogs.
Another thing that bothers me is when i'm down the river and see some moron decide that his dog needs to get cooled off so he picks up a stick and can't just toss it out 20 feet.
He throws it out as far as he can then does this over and over to the point where the dog is exhausted from so many swims against the tide.
I couldn't take it no more so I pushed the guy off the dock and took the dog and gave him to a young married couple I knew.
Trapper was his name and he was put down last year and I held his head and he gave his tail a little wag and licked the tears from my eyes.
After that he was pain free.
I also had the oppertuinty to work with Bear.

Here are a couple pics when she was a kitten. They are a little strange to get used to, but she is soo much fun. Always playing, pounching and attacking anything that moves. She also rounds up crickets when they get loose from feeding my Bearded Dragon. She loves a good hunt!
