Default I got BUSTED today!

So today the parts for my girlfriends kids r/c truck came in today and I told her I was leaving to go pick up his parts we've been waiting all week on. I get home take the parts out to my hanger and get his truck fixed and all that good stuff. After I was finished I made the huge mistake of cleaning up my worktable and putting all my tools and everything were they belong and getting my shop all cleaned up and ready to go. This is where it all went down hill.....

....a few minutes later,my girlfriend walked into the shop(which hardly EVER happens). With a strange look on her face and tone in her voice, she asked me if I was moving out. Without having time to come up with a plan, I said....."nope,just getting ready to build that new Sig Hog Biplane kit I got out in my car that I picked up while at the hobby shop today!" I was trying to wait till she left for her evening plans before taking it out of my car and bringing it inside because she knows dang well I dont need another plane. Oh well, guess you cant hide everything from them.

The moral of the story for all you rookies out there is when you get to the point your trying to hide your addiction from the better half of you......Dont clean your shop! Its a dead give away that your up to something, lol. It really is funny though because you see posts like this http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7414053/tm.htm that joke about having to hide your planes and stuff, and to most beginners its just funny. But it really does happen sooner or later. And sometimes you get busted!

...oh well,I got a new Sig HOG Bipe kit ! WOO HOOO!

I just say that I'm working on stuff for other people in the club. Actually, she doesn't mind. Our household expenses, savings, investments, etc. come first but we each have our own personal budget. We have an agreement not to question each other about what we do with that personal money. She buys shoes & makeup and I buy airplanes and tools. She's only complained about the time I spend. Then I just spend an evening wither, remind her of how annoying I am and she encourages me to go out in the garage and do something.

Why lie then?

Some time ago I use to do the same as ChuckW, but my wife is always aware of everything that comes in the house and what goes out. Three years ago I bought a house that I use as a Business place and I took almost all my RC stuff there (My wife was glad for what I did). Now the fight is not about how many planes I have (About 11 and two more in the building process). Now is related on the time that I spend on my office.
There is an addiction at certain point as sometimes you have to hide things (like alcoholics do), maybe we should ask for help.

Bro, I'm glad you didn't shoot the wife. Gezzz, had to reread that as well.

My wife seldom walks into my shop, but she does check the mail 100% of the time and usually gets to my goodies before I do. She once told me, "another plane?" I replied, "Yes, how many black leather shoes do you have"? Another one that works is,,,,,"you have more than one purse right".

She asks why do you need another plane, they all do the same thing. I reply, why do you need more than one purse or more than one pair of black shoes. That usually puts a quick end to the conversation.

I have been married for a loooooong time.

a women can not see or count anything over ten, if you have 10 rc motors you can bring in as many as you want, they can't see anymore. Its like hiding a tree in the woods.

well I could not take it home "she was with me" , so I told them I would pick it up friday "today". I made up a reason to back to town today. Well she caught me bring it into the house!!!!!!!! DID YOU BUY ANOTHER PLANE she asked???????

no honey I've had this plane I was just asked the hobby shop about it............. There is no lie there, I have had it "two days" and I did ask them about it !!!!!!!!!!

Its all in having the right answer ready..........Ok I get caught once in awhile

I told my wife, "When I was single, I had one airplane and a lot of women. Now I have one woman and a lot of airplanes.

Which way do you want it?"

I have to agree with this after a recent incident.

A new plane arrived at my door. I got it into the garage in the boxes hidden with other stuff in the garage. I then snuck it upstairs to my building room, and unpacked and inspected. Then put the main pieces hidden around the room as to not draw any attention that it was in fact one whole new plane.

A few days later I decided to lay the pieces out on my building table and take a few pictures before I start construction. My wife happened to walk in the room (it's her computer room too) as I was taking the pictures. I thought, oh no...I knew I'd have to answer for where this came from sooner or later but not right now. Her only question was "Are you taking some pictures of your plane for the internet?".

Now my new plane is hidden in plain sight.

And to think a year ago I had one plane and had yet to solo. Now I have six and still can't fly very good.

I feel your pain Bro! For years I have courted a wonderful relationship with my UPS delivery guy. He was fantastic. When he would see the wife's car at the house he would deliver the toys the following day or stash them on the side of the house behind the trash cans. It all came to an end however, when my UPS guy became a patient of my wife, who is his nurse practitioner now. Damn it anyway.

Minn: LOL! had to laugh at that one.

sadly im only 15 and so still live with my Mum, but i give as good as i get :P

i usually just come home with my arms full of balsa wood, fuel tanks and the odd bottle of CA and take it straight to the workshop (actually its her conservatory, but i did tell her the consequences if she didnt get me a shed :P) and i get cracking on it straight away, she stays out of the workshop when im in there and i keep all delicate parts out of harms way everyone is a winner.

howvere, when asked that inevitable question "why do you need more than one aeroplane?" my usual response is "i dont have to give you a reason" cus thats what she says to me when i object to one of her crackpot theories, that really gets on her nerves :P

Pat McManus of Outdoor Life fame had it right. His wife asked him about the need for one gun, then two guns, then after he got 3 guns, she asked him if he needed all of these guns. When I bought my second airplane, she asked me why I needed two airplanes. After the third airplane, she asked me why I needed ALL these airplanes. When the count becomes all, then you can have as many as you want.[>:]

My wife tends to have a new hobby every few months, so whenever she askes about my plane stuff, I remind her of all the hobbies that she has spent money on and are now collecting dust in storage. I also tend to not remeber the full price of everything.

I used to build and store my planes in the garage in a small enclave. No biggee, until one day my better half decided to clean the garage. My brother, that particular weekend decided to come down with a few planes that he had gotten. Now I had planes everywhere before I could put them away. She made the mistake of counting 14 planes (Not counting what my brother had brought me(most flyable, other in various stages of build or repair). She didn't seen the kits hidden away in the clutter. She also didn't see all the various engine and radios around the workbench area that was hidden by other stuff. Then she made the mistake of saying she wanted "her" garage back (to store stuff in my building area, i.e Christmas decorations and other stuff from 20+ years of marriage) and her car. As I muttered some silly remark like, "Well , maybe I just need shed" , she looked at me and said "What did I have in mind?" Silly wife, a month later I'm building and storing my planes in a 12'X18' shed with a ceiling height of 12 feet . Of course, some of the area is dedicated to garden tools, but now she has her garage. OK, now I'm up to about 20 planes, some in rafters, some still in kit form, and a lot of them in the homemade rafters. Since I have the only key to the padlock, she never has to know what follows me home. Hope I don't move anytime in the next few years, I'd need a U-Haul for all my stuff.

Default RE: I got BUSTED today!

Made a huge mistake years ago when we and the now Mrs 1st met and madly in love let her start opening my bank statements !!!!!!!!!!!
About 1 1/2 ys ago I switched banks to get on of those offset mortgages and meant to close all my old accounts at the other bank. I realised about 3 weeks ago that I still have one old account open and just needed a new card for it and switched the address for statements to my work address. I also had some money in there as the mortgage offset accounts you have to post any checks you want to pay in and it's easier if you're passing just to go into the bank!!!!! I can also nip past every few weeks and pay any cash I have spare in to keep topping it up.
Since then there's been an Acromaster (to replace one I destroyed and easy to hide as she's seen one of them) and a DX7 which have mysteriously appeared and am just waiting for the ParkMaster to come out and am seriously thinking about a PA Katana or the new Extra 260 - - - - - Happy Days !!!!!!!!!!
Don't feel that guilty though as I gave up the dreaded fags about the same time I started RC and reckon the planes actually cost less (once you get through the intial set up and crashing expense) and are better for your health !!!!!!
