Default Back yard flyer

Hello everyone, great community here

I am thinking of getting my self a little birthday present airplane. I want one that would be able to fly slow and steady in my backyard.

What i had in mind was the Slo-V by ParkZone. It fits well with the budget i have (100-125 dollars) and it seems to be like a good slow flyer.

Does anyone have this plane that can vouch for its quality?
Also, what is the run time i should expect with the stock battery?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Something like this would be great for a backyard flyer, and it comes with everything you need to get started right away.

Thanks for the suggestion

Is it semi slow though? My backyard isn't the biggest although we have a forest after about 20 feet in. I'm just afraid that that airplane would have to be flown somewhere else. I think i'll youtube it and see it in action

I have a question about the slo v charger though, i see a picture of it and it looks like a charger that can only be pushed into those car cigarette lighters, is this true? Or is there a little pop out thing on it that can connect to a regular house outlet.

Thanks

I have a slo v. DONT GET It. I would go with the cub. And to your question, yes, the slo v only comes with a cigarette lighter charger. My slo v is very sensitive to wind, it isnt durable at all and the motor isnt enough power for it.

I'd recommend AGAINST the Super Cub if you want to fly it in the backyard. There's no way you'll keep it in a small area. The SC is slow, predictable, and gentle, but it needs a field. Trust me, I tried to fly in my front yard with my Super Cub.... Landing was the problem.

If you're going to have a prayer of keeping it in a 1-1.5acre space you'll need to get a GWS slow stick or similar. Those are so incredibly slow I don't see how it flies! A buddy handed one to me and I wanted one immediately. It's not indistructable, no...... but it'll do. and parts are cheap. Heck, the whole plane cost like $50. The Slo-v is pretty much the same thing............ the sticks aren't really for going fast and doing 3D.. They are emmmmm' SLOW!

The problem is not taking off and flying, you gotta get it back down, and for that you need space.

In my backyard, there is a piece of concrete that is probably 50 feet long and 15 feet wide. Would this serve as a run way?

I looked up the gws slow stick and it looks exactly like the slow stick. I can't seem to find a website that had it though. I don't really understand the number in the name and i have read some post saying that it is just a frame on some of them? I am looking for one that will be able to fly out of the box without needing to get extra pieces since i'm still a beginner. The only thing i would probably buy along with the plane is a spare battery.

Thanks for all the help

I'm a beginer too but i just ordered a slow stick 400 and it was really easy to put together. You can buy all the parts and put it together for less than $200 Try www.lexhobby.com this is the site for the shop i work at. You will be able to find it on there. You can order it through us and we can have it drop shipped. Retail is only like $36 so don't pay over that. You don't need the brushless one.

Well, sorry but i think imma just go with a Slo V. I like the look of it a bit better.

I have a few more questions [sm=red_smile.gif]

1. I am going to buy the plane from Red Rocket hobbies, because it is 99.99 and free shipping. Is this a good store?

2. Is the controller for the Slo V able to be used with a FMS? I think i will use FMS a bit to get the hang of it. If so, can anyone give me a link to where i can buy the cord to connect the Slo V Controller to my computer to use FMS with it?

I had one more, but i can't remember it right now[:@]
Thanks

Sorry for the double post.

I just went to a hobby shop near me and i just couldn't wipe this giddy smile off my face as i walked around the store.

The only plane they had similar to the one i had was the slow stick ($35) but it didn't include the radio/receiver stuff so i didn't feel like getting it. I also saw the Parkzone Ember and Super Cubs.

Most interestingly, i was able to fly out that 200 dollar simulator G4 reflight thing. I first tried a 6 channel heli and was able to make it fly upside down but i couldnt land it after i got it right side up. I then tried an electistar its 4 channel confused me (i think the channel is airloins?). I finally found a plane that looked similar to a Slo-V Some Kittiango plane. First thing i noticed was the going down on the controller would make the plane go up. I guess i'll have to get used to inverted. Also, when i turn, I tend to turn to much and would make the plane do these spins in the air. Not loops but it like goes in straight/curved line and just rolls over and over. Is this possible with the Slo V? I hope not... I think the Kittiango plane is faster than the Slo V. My concern is that i dont make the plane spin while turning. I am also HORRIBLE at landing. With the view i got from the screen, i could not judge the distance/altitude/speed i needed to be able to land on the run way. I also always got nervous and pulled up at the last second.

Any thoughts/tips?

I will probably buy the Slo V from Red rocket hobbies tonight or tomorrow.

A simulator is not a good tool to learn how to fly. It is however a good tool to just get you used to the sticks.

I have only been flying for a couple of months, and I was playing on the simulator quite a bit before I got my first plane flyable. I would spend a lot of time in chase mode just getting used to the controls. Not necessarily flying a plane similar to the one that I had, but just flying in general. And I think it helped me out a lot just to be used to the feel of the transmitter in your hands and how what you do with your thumbs makes the plane do in teh air.

I would not worry about your inability to land and the spins and stuff, I am sure that the slo-v is a docile plane and I doubt you will have any trouble with spins.

Ok. I looked it up and i think it's called a barrel roll.

What simulator did you use? I don't know what "chase mode" is.

I was thinking of getting this:

[link]http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSJR9[/link]

To use as a simulator. Its only because i can't find a connector cord to fit the Slo V controller to my computer.

Oh yeah! I was looking at planes the other day and is the Flyzone Diablo EDF any good? They say it's pretty slow for an EDF and you can buy upgrades later to make it 4 channel and 2 engines.

I have used the simulator for some time before i got a plane into the air last night with a trainer but it helps a lot. I would not use chase mode where you are looking from right behind the plane like in a video game. I would use the ground view because you cant fly behind your plane while your flying it. The controls will make more sence and you will learn all of it faster. You will learn how to judge your landings and speed too. I have the realflight G3.5 i love it.

Sadly, i do not have that much money right now so i can only afford the 25 dollar one.

I looked for cords and it was 15 dollars so what the heck, might aswell get a controller that would be able to fly a 4 channel.

I am going to try another lhs to see if they have a Slo V, it not, i'll buy it from red rocket hobbies. Is this a reputable site?

My dad told me to just go with the FMS one

I ordered it already.

Today, i went to another lhs store and they had many trainers and beginner planes.
They also had G4

I tried the FLyZone plane this time and was able to get one successful landing. Its hard for me to judge the distance at which i need to turn to get onto the drive way.

I think there is one more lhs i can try.

idk about the ember but i have the vapor and it will take ZERO wind. As in, you fly it in anything other than a big room with no a/c youre eff'd especially if its your first plane (idk if it is or not).

the ember looks a little beefier and might be a little more stable but i fly my vapor at my lhs and its a blast. i'd never fly it outside unless someone bet me and they'd replace the plane when i lost it. haha
