Default Control Surface Hardware

Hi again everyone. I have another build question. Should I use the plastic hardware that came with my ARF to connect the rod from the servos to the control surfaces or buy metal ones? Does it really matter, is one better than the other? Thanks again.

The hardware that comes with an ARF is typically 2mm and the metal stuff like Dubro or Great planes is 2-56

Its all or nothing. If you are going to use the metal clevises you will need new 2-56 rods too

What kind of ARF is it? If it is from Great Planes, Hangar-9, Sig, World Models or another reputable manufacturer then go ahead and use it. It is designed for the job and will be just fine. Some of those manufacturers also use SAE sized hardware (I know GP generally does) so you could replace it with metal stuff if you really wanted.

If you have one of those el-cheapo planes with instructions that don't make sense then you'll likely want to ditch all the hardware in favor of some quality stuff.

It is indeed one of those cheap-o brands. It's a China Model Productions P-51.

I have no personal experience with that manufacturer so I really can't comment on their hardware. If you are concerned though it can't hurt to change it.

w8ye, Sulllivan makes 2mm metal clevis's that are the metric equivelant of 2-56 clevis's. I use them all the time to replace the nylon clevis's that come with many asian arfs. You can check them out at:

The hobby shop down below the house has both 2mm rods/hardware as well as 2-56 and 4-40
