Hi Villa,
By no means are you nit picking. You are correct about the weight of the musket balls.
I have a digital scale and weighed about 5 lead balls individually. Most of them were .8 oz or .9 oz. So I rounded it up, didn't see the harm. Consider if I only used 16 balls to balance my plane, it would amount to 1 ounce morethan estimated. I didn't think that margin was too unreasonable. Just as long as the plane was a little nose heavy as indicated on my level.
About keeping CG in mind every step of the build, I would have to take your advice.... That is if I built this plane from scratch, it was an ARF.

I know if it were me having your trouble getting the plane to balance I would consider a larger engine. You didn't say how you are going to power the model.
I just have the opinion that if I "have" to add weight it might as well be useful weight.
No replacement for displacement.

Hi OkadaKeisuke
Ok, so it is an ARF. But you installed all of the components. Longer engine mount to move engine forward. Flat battery instead of conventional battery so it fits in a tight place. I once added a second battery and second switch for CG control, and gained more reliability. It is true that sometimes there is no choice but to add weight. I look at it as a personal failure if I have to add dead weight.

90% of the planes I've built needed a touch of lead... I still remain confident and maintain an upbeat attitude among my peers.

I agree 100% with you about adding usefull weight.
I am using a OS 46 LA engine. Unfortunately I am in no position financially right now to buy a different heavier Engine.
I was told, by a local club member, that I made a good engine selection, as my first trainer is a SID Kadet Senior.
Considering this is my first plane. I don't want anything too powerful, I want an easy machine to learn with.

I figure adding a little more weight to the plane will be a minor trade off. I believe the SIG Kadet Senior can withstand quite a bit of extra weight anyhow, because of its light wing loading. Isn't it used to tow sailplanes?
