Default RE: reversing y harness?

I just had to go out and set these up to see something for myself, I have one of those gray thoughts floating through my brain, it's sort of a lost memory of things done in the past. For one reason or another I have set up a plane this way. Why I would I haven't a clue and it may just be a random thought and never really happened?[&o]
Anyway, both servos are facing the same way, I just set up one control rod on the high side of the arm and one on the low. I set up the arms so the throws were equal or close to it then went into my radio and set them closer with sub trim, it works but there is a problem!!
Linear control arms they aren't!!
Would I do it this way?? NO!! But I am showing it can be done, it just isn't right. I would never set up a nice 1/4 scale anything up this way. I have a 9ch radio and I don't need to be doing things like this. I don't like Y harnesses but if it's a cheap plane go for it, if not then quit fooling around and buy a nice little JR match box if your radio hasn't got the correct mix.

OPjose, I understand what you are saying. That could be made to work. It would be difficult to get exact and possibly require some creative servo positioning depending on the plane to make everythign clear but it is theoretcially possible as you have obviously proven. Flipping one servo forward and one backward though will not work.
Yeah it's not normally done. And it really looks strange... violating RC estetics... and it does nag at you as you wonder about setting things up this way...

I really prefer other solutions, such as a Matchbox, a reversed programmable servo, etc.

The one that didn't work well for me was the reverser units that are sold in-line built into a "Y" cable.
Other of my club members have experiened the same problems I have had with them, the drifting with temperature, and the POTS varying with usage.

Ihad a friend that owned a shop and we were talking about the Y harnes and he stated they were total crap. We went out to the field with 6 of them one day to test and most of them had problems, those were straight Ys. When I see someone at the field thes days with problems I ask if they have Ys and most the time it's that problem. Idon't use them myself but i also don't have any need of them. I do have a few in stock, just something I still have? I set one up for the photos today just to make sure my thought process about servos worked. The JRmatch box is a great little piece of work, That's from someone that is a Futaba guy but i use what works best for me.

Yes, that plane has ailerons. You can see them on the wing if you zoom the picture.

And, no, not all planes have ailerons. Some are three channels: throtttle, rudder, and elevator.

Breath on it a bit... the heat will change the frequency of the on board crystal, causing the reverser to need to be adjusted.

Just stumbled on this topic cause I just purchased a seagull extra 260 180 ARF gonna convert to gas Zenoah G26. I already have a seagull extra 540 60 arf I had the same problem with my futaba 6EX. I solved it on the edge by plugging the ailerons in ch1,6 and enabling flaperons and used a Y harness on the elevator. Yes one elevator would go up and one would go down so I flipped the servo horn 180 degrees they moved the same direction eliminating the need for a servo reverser. Then spent about an hour getting the mechanical linkage till the elevators traveled equally from top to bottom in normal and dual rates.

May do it the same on the extra.

Since it is a 6-channel radio, maybe turn off the flap or gear switch and mix with that channel? I've done it on my DX-7.
Hey buddy, I have a DX7 with a 5CH Rx (AR500) in my edge 60 (seagull) and I can not do the mixing of the ELEVATOR-GEAR. I have the following problems:

*No matter what I do, the travel of the GEAR is not the same that the one of the ELEVATOR. It still seems to have only 45deg of travel.
*No matter what I do, the GEAR switch is enabled and I do not like this much because if while flying I accidently touch the switch, I'll have half of the elevator moving completely in one way!

Could u please help me out with this?????? I appreciate it....

Go here; http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/...xtensions.html

The bottom 2 items are Y harness with reverser. Less than $9.00.They will work just fine for what you need to do. It will not cause all the trouble people attribute to servo y reverser's if you install your servos and linkages properly.
