Default fitting Cherokee cowl / muffler ??

Working on this cherokee that I bought used over the winter.
It doesnt look like the original muffler? Would it have been blue like the engine?

There is no way this cowl fits over that muffler without cutting out the whole bottom corner of the cowl...???

Anyone have a picture of what this is supposed to look like?

Didnt appreciate the computerized radios until I started setting this up with an old futaba radio it came with...
Have to set up everything mechanically. good to do though.

nope that's your typical OS LA motor. It's what came with it.

Yep, you'll have to cut the cowl to fit around the muffler. Every blue LA engine I have ever seen had a bare muffler. I always thought it was a little goofy myself to do it that way but that's what they did.

Is that the original engine?  From the looks of the cut out in the cowl, I am guessing there was originally a 4-stroke engine installed.  </p>

That might explain why the cown didnt have a cutout for the 2 stroke muffler?

I dont know the history of this plane.
I started the engine today and notices the firewall flexing. I got the NOGO from the gurus at the feild.. I agreed.

I'll have to remove the engine and double up the firewall.

I don't think it is a matter of doubling the firewall as much as it is re-gluing the firewall in.  Sounds like it had a rough landing and the firewall is loose.

Hi!
Tilt the engine cylinder to the left some so the silencer comes under the fuselage.
Then carve away some of the firewall and fuselage to have a space for the silencer. Use 0,4mm plywood , glasfiber and microballons to fill the area above the silencer using the silencer as mold.

Looks more like the firewall cracked, the way it buckels. not like its come apart at the edge of the firewall. I have to inspect it closer. it wasnt obvious where the problem is.
The more experienced guys confirmed it has to be addressed.
