CA Disaster HELP

Glad everything worked out. How are you going to explain the bald spots on the cat?
I too, would definitely call Tower and have them look into this. Never thought something like this could happen. I usually build with other glues but have a bottle of CA handy for certain jobs. The bottle is going into another container now!

Sorry gboulton
I missed a β€.β€. I wasn’t trying to imply that Tower was marketing Mercury glue under their trademark. I was asking if any of the large retailers market the stuff.
I have only been around the hobby for about 4 years or so and this is the second set of CA bottles to do get the cauliflower growths in the corners of the bottles. This bottle of thin is the first one that the bottom let go.
Part of the reason I didn’t have the thin in my build room was an efferent to keep it away from the accelerator. My medium and thick had already set up.
There was a cauliflower growth on the corner of the bottle where the howl is now. It was stuck to the entertainment center and came loose when I attempted to remove the bottle. This is how I flooded the top of the entertainment center and in my panic state attempted to run to the trashcan with the envelope and glue spreading the mess through the house.
As to the cat, I had to fess up when she called from work witch was long before she found the cat.

Ah, ok, makes sense.
As for major sources of Mercury CA, not sure. My LHS gets it, but I know you said you were a good ways away from an LHS. Might try their "Where to buy" page at http://mercuryadhesives.com/dealers.asp
As for your other bottles going off, and the comments about not being able to get the cap on, etc...that's PRECISELY why I switched to Mercury.
Without getting into to much detail (As I said...their science page does a much better job than i could) :
1) Most of what you're seeing with CA bottles hardening is simply the CA going off, or curing. Moisture is what activates CA, and all the other major manufactures have huge drums shipped overseas. This means by the time you get your Tower of GP CA, it's been on a boat, in the sea air, and then in a warehouse, and then bottled, and then shipped to your store, and then to you. It's no wonder the stuff goes off soon after we get it...the wonder is that it hasn't already!
Mercury, on the other hand, is made in the states, as needed, and thus quite fresher and newer when you get it...and it hasn't spent months in the moist air of a sea journey.
2) Their bottles are quite well designed. The cap has a ROUNDED pin to keep the tip clear, but not scratch it up 9which leaves grooves for CA to cure), and the silicone tip resists CA bonding on it.
What i've found is that even the most basic of attention (just wipe the threads with a paper towel when done, for example) will keep a Mercury bottle clean, usable, and easily opened for a YEAR or more.
I've also found that it being fresher means it's more predictable and reliable. Its work time is consistent from bottle to bottle, the bonds strong and reliable, etc.
All in all, given that it's no pricier than any other CA, you really can't beat it, imo.

Can Acetone also be used to clean CA off your planes canopy or would it make a mess on it?
Yes this is what happens when you are frustrated and angry with yourself and then working with CA at the field - it's only 3 drops on the canopy but it looks ugly.

Try Z-7 debonder. It works like magic and with no side effects on covering material or plastic canopy. http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-z-7-debonder

C A is the worst . use titebond wood glue . the fumes alone from C A burn my eyes . if i need a strong quick bond id rather use 5 minute epoxy. AND THE other thing i HATE about CA IS you cant get it off your fingers. or any thing else, TRUST ME . TRASH the c a

From: No City,
Pa-18cub150, that worked out pretty good! Gboulton, great info on Mercury CA, I'd never heard of them, I'm going to order some of their CA.
Pa-18cub150, your fiasco reminds me of the time I was carelessly soldering and managed to burn a 1" diam burn in my wife's (now ex-wife) cherished old round oak table. I was stupid to be soldering on the table. She was at work and I only had a few hours to fix it. I sanded out the burnt wood, filled it with wood filler then spent the next few hours mixing paint colors and practicing my "artistic" brush skills (I have no artistic skills), painting on a fake grain. She never found out. She sold the table a couple years later and got what I considered a ridiculous amount of money for it. Some people like that old stuff. :-)
