Awesome! But, you know what's going to happen? It will work out like it always does here on south Eastern PA; they call for tons of snow and we get nothing. They call for a light dusting and we get a foot!!!!

There is a God, Airline got Matt a flight out today. Philly has been added to the danger zone list for the storm. So he now has a direct flight into Philly and will be on the ground at 19:30 (7:30 PM for you civilian folk) today!! No extra charge!

Here in north Alabama we seldom see snow and we pretty much get to fly, fish, or play golf year round. But this fall/early winter has been probably the wettest in many years. We have only had a few days over the last 2 months that were OK for flying. Thankfully I have a plane on my building table.
As for the airline inadequacies, I worked as an avionics/a&p for 30 years (Braniff initially, after the Air Force) and it has been a real bummer to watch the industry go so far downhill over 30 years. When I started in 1978 there was such a thing as service. Today its like they are doing us a favor to fly with them. My wife recently took a trip to NY on USAir. She says never again will she fly with them. I sure miss TWA. They understood customer service.

It's not just you folks in the Northeast. Atlanta has highs of around 40, lows below freezingand rain/sleet/snow forecast for the next few days with fairly high winds. 3 new planes all set to go and no weather to fly them in......[img][/img]

Yeah that's the truth. Grocery stores will be jam packed, no bread, toilet paper, or milk will be left on the shelves.

Bill,
That's the old PPPPPP thing again. My daughter is less than 100 miles away.
My Kingdom for my ole 4wd back. Our roads are a joke, so she'll have to get

Yep....looking pretty bleek here for York, PA also. I was gonna' try to get out this weekend but that ain't happening. My mother-in-law was supposed to come down from Renovo, PA tomorrow and stay for Christmas this year because my twins are 1 this year...looks like that won't happen either. Oh well, I'll stop and get a case of beer tonight, fire up the snow blower and just sit and wait.

nitro-pilot, the guys in the upper east call it a white-out caused by heavy show. You guys call it a brown-out caused by heavy mosquito activity. It's all good.

No bugs here after September actually. I'm originally from Philly, and spent years in Mass and NH. I'll take hurricanes every 5 years any day.
What's easier, spraying on OFF, or wearing a Parka coat at the club field?

Our biggest headache around here are the da** gnats late in the summer. Off works for about ten minutes, and then they become immune to the stuff. They are constantly in your ears and eyes.....thanks, but I'd rather put on a coat and fly in the winter.

But you need to shovel out your driveway first, budget your hobby around hearing oil costs, doctor bills, winter tires, and making sure you can get to the field without skidding off the road. Bugs are not a problem here in FL where we're at. I can't imagine that weather anymore. Maybe if I was a bear and hibernated through the winter I'd go back.
Do batteries work at 20 degrees?

Hopefully they can get back out of Philly! I remember being stranded in St Paul for over a week on a business trip one winter. The hotel grew pretty small the last couple of days.
As far as winter driving, Floridians can drive in snow pretty well. Our road conditions aren't what they would seem. The road gets very hot and when it first rains, it's just like ice with the slick surface. Also heavy rain floods the roads in this tropical environment. I'm sure all will be fine. Most cars have traction control these days too, anti-lock brakes, front wheel drive, etc.

Philadelphia is a hub for US Airways. The airport management keeps the airport moving as well as they can. Air Traffic Control have their own rules as to departures and arrivals. If it stops snowing, and the airport authorities keep things moving, the closure, if it even happens, will be minimum. The worst you can expect is delays, and they happen at any major airport for many reasons.
If you really need to keep in touch, then you can connect with US Airways for flight status via text message on most cell phones. All you need to do is enter the flight number and text it to 839887 and US Airways will send back the status of that flight for that day. You will get, in return, the following:
from: US AIRWAYS
FLIGHT STATUS: (if departure is delayed for that day, they will tell you here)
DATE:
FLIGHT NUMBER:
DEP FROM: (airport)
TIME DEPART SCHEDULED: (time the flight is supposed to depart, which means, pushed back from the gate)
ACTUAL TIME DEPARTURE: (estimated time of arrival, or if it has already arrived, actual time of arrival at the airport, wheels on the ground, at the destination airport)
DEPARTURE GATE:
DESTINATION: (Intermediate - next airport in a series of destinations - or final destination city or airport that the flight is supposed to go to)
SCHEDULED ARRIVAL TIME: (time the airline schedules the flight to arrive at the next or final destination)
STATUS: (what may be the status, if not on time, for the flight at that time, meaning airport or ATC delay, in flight, delay, or whatever)
ADVISORIES: (Weather advisories, destination delays for any reason, or, again whatever may cause advisories for that flight)
DATE RECEIVED: (date the information is applicable for)
Easy enough.

Hey Irish. Yeah, the predictions are not good. The predictions vary, but the extreme calls for 14" plus. Some models predict 6" or so, with mixed rain and snow, which is more than likely cuz of the location here near Atlantic City.. however.. this is a coastal storm, and more models, more than the one for 6" or so.. state that we're in for it, for up to or exceeding 14" along the coast. Gonna be nasty, no matter what happens. When the snow and rain mix, well, it's not a good thing.

I heard you guys might get hammered. The wife was talking to some of her family in PA and NJ and they say it might get wild. Kind of makes me feel bad for complaining about the cool, foggy weather here.

Boy we're getting it down here too! Woke up to a shivering 59 degrees outside and 72 inside. I had to get some wax logs on the fire this morning to break the chill. Kids loved it.
In an hour or two it will be 10 degrees warmer and we can venture outdoors and start loading the pick up with planes. I don't know what turn out we'll have at the flying field.
This only happens a few weeks out of the year, but we were prepared.
