I also like this program alot. I recently installed it on my laptop and I'm in the process of listing all of my inventory.
I like the various features of this software, but my main reason has already been stated by Ken. In the event that I should have an insurance claim, I've got a record of everything in hand.

I started logging my flights a few months ago after reading about it on another forum. The poster there commented they had found it very useful.
Not sure yet how useful it is but it really isn't that hard to do and what amazes me is how many good flights I have. It has helped me realize that while the bad flights certainly cause angst, they are not as common as we might think they are.
It doesn't really take much effort and it is good to stop after a flight and think about what was remarkable or not. Try it with a simple bit of notepaper and see how you go.
I record the date, the approx time, the duration of the flight, the plane, the wind conditions and how the flight went. If I've had to adjust the mixture, I record that.
When I say I'm amazed at how many good flights, I'm still a fairly new to the sport (just under 2 years of flying). That isn't an attempt to brag, just to encourage the other newcomers out there to recognize that they are doing fairly well at times even when they think they aren't.

Sounds like your company may have some group policies set. Have you ever tried to run other executable files from your work computer?

It looks like there was a conflict with one of my applications because when I closed it this morning, 6 installation windows suddenly appeared and then I was able to go through the process properly.
Thanks.

Has anyone successfully installed it on a 64bit Windows 7 machine?

Any older apps I have that dont play nice with 7, I install them on my Virtual XP (XPMode).
Note: I dont mean install them by right clicking on the .exe and selecting a compatibility mode. I mean install them on a Virtual XP that runs on your 7. Also, not all computers will be beefy enough to run virtual XP.
just my .02's and free as always. LOL

Thanks for the thump on the back of the head. I've installed the software from our buddies in Beaverton. I had forgotten how much fun it was setting up virtual systems on IBM gear using VM.
Guess I'm gonna have to do something about hard drives 'cause I have 1 80Gb system drive and 3 1Tb HD for data. Playing with Raid 0 on 2 of 'em creating a 2Tb drive. I'm thinking that the XP virtual machine will have some serious heartburn with those. Now where did I put that XP Pro manual ...
Did I say thanks? [:@] Can I send you a check for $.02?

LOL...yeah sure. Enough .02 checks and I'll get rich eventually!
Here is the MS link for XP mode. your 80GB drive would be fine depending on how crammed it is. I would assume with the data drives you would have a lot of that 80GB free.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../download.aspx
However, if you have 7 Home Basic...XP Mode isnt supported I dont think. You have to have Premium, Ultimate, or Enterprise.
I am running Enterprise 7 and only have an 80GB system drive and XP Mode runs fine for me.

I have Win7 Pro - XP Mode runs fine. Just need to do my homework and put a recoverable configuration together as I will frequently nuc the 80Gb drive to do a clean install of Win7. Em, I do have 4 or 5 unused 80 Gb HDs on the shelf.

For Windows 7 users - Windows Virtual PC allows you to create an XP operating system and run it as an application under the control of Windows 7. It shows up just like IE, Outlook, Word - nice work by Microsoft. The XP opsys has full access to all of the HD of the Win7 host (even a 2 Tb Raid device). The FlightLog software installs and runs.
FlightLog has a ton of features that seem to be more applicable for maintaining full size aircraft.
I'd be interested in getting feedback about which features are used. I'm guessing that the old 80/20 rule applies to this application - perhaps 90/10.

Seamus,
I use just about all of the aspects of Flight log with the exception of tracking battery charges and fuel usage. Although, I'm going to start tracking the battery charges as I'm using more Li-po batteries now. I want to track how many charge cycles are on each battery pack.

RCKen,
Thanks for sharing the info about Flight log. I'll downloaad it and give it a try. Given that I am an anal accountant by day, I think it will suit me well. I used to be able to count on my memory...but as I age.

RCKen - you being in the IT world, IF someone were to put together a contemporary version of the Flight Log, what technology(s) would you recommend that would include application code run-time, the executables, database pieces and installation package?

My Feedback: (9)
If I were to update it I would have pretty much the same functionality that is in it already. However, first it needs to be a sql database instead of access. that would make it faster and more robust. Next I would design it as an app for mobile devices. that way I wouldn't have to write on a card and transpose, I could simply update at the field with my mobile device. That would be the biggest changes I would make to it.
