I have an AR500 and two AR6200s and have had absolutely zero problems. Plus Horizon is one of the best companies in the business in terms of customer care. If you have an issue, they'll likely just send you new equipment. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the spektrum gear if you set it up correctly and keep your voltage charged before flights.

Me and 3 other bought a DX7 at approximately the same time. I was new to it all (the 2.4 gig). Had my LHS help me with the set up. Crashed. The plane lost bind right after take off. Set everything up in different plane different servos, reciever, and batteries. Let one of my buddies check the bind and set up (he works at the LHS been flying forever he flies futaba FASST) took off, started into pattern, plane uncontrollably rolled over and nosedived. Again lost bind. This all happened to a total of 4 planes. Sent all epuipment to horizon with pictures of everytihng set up in the plane before it crashed, they said set up was perfect and nothing was wrong. These were multiple different set ups that were range tested as per the manual. I've been flying for awhile so lets just say it wasn't my flying skills. Out of the 3 of us who bought one, 2 of them got returned........for pretty much the same reason I returned mine....bad binding. Been flying FASST for 8 months, zero, ziltch, nothing, nada, when it comes to problems not even a glitch. Rock solid. Maybe the two systems were bad systems, I don't know. But after the loss of $2000 in planes and equipment, I will never fly with anything that has to do with spektrum/ DSM, DSM2 technology.
Probably a good idea. I don't think that technology likes you very much, acting up like that and then being perfect when the factory looks at it.....

You and 3 others bought them (that makes four), then there were 3 of you (total) later on, and 2 of those got sent back. It's all very well documented and believable...... (not)

Speaking for myself, DSM/ DSM2 is the best flying friend I've ever had, and I haven't lost a plane or had a hit since I moved to Spektrum and JR 2.4 gHz....except once....to some wind-shear and thumb response that left something to be desired. Spektrum loves me. DSM / DSM2 loves me.....Oh, and it also loves ALL of my friends and fellow club flyers, and that by the way is well over a hundred people, NONE of whom have had issues. And we're from Texas, Maine, New York.....all over the USA.... But then, when we dumb-thumb it, we say so, learn from it, and move on.

I'm glad you're using Futaba now, that much I can say in all sincerity.

DenverJayhawk, you said it all.

For .60 size planes, I'd get the AR500, AR6200, or AR7000, depending on how many channels you need (5, 6, and 7 respectively).

I put a 3S LiPo battery in my DX7, so now it stays charged and ready to go, and recharges are very infrequent.
How do you handle the extra power from the Lipo. I know fully charged it gets well over 12v. Don't want to burn something out of my DX-7
So far I've just use the LiPo packs with about a 12V charge on them, but I've heard from a number of guys that use a fully charged 3S LiPo in the DX7 (12.6V) with no problems. If you are concerned, you can solder a forward biased diode in series with one of the leads, that will drop 0.7 - 1V, and get you down to 12V or less (a fully charged 8-cell NiMH pack peaks out close to 12V).

My NiMh usually peaks out at 11.6 or 11.7....in truth, I've never seen one higher than 11.7, not ever.

So the AR 500 is a respectable reliable FULL RANGE receiver?

If it is then thats awesome! I was thinking that the AR 6200 was the lowest full range receiver, which was kind of a let down since it's like 75 dollars but that's awesome that there's an AR 500... as all of my planes are 5 channels or less... is it light enough for a park flyer also? I'll probably go ahead and pick up a bunch of these 500's if they will work with all my planes

Thanks everyone!

Just ordered two of them... Reading great things about them
Yes, it's a full range receiver. I'd also use it for any of my future park flyers, since it is so small/light, and only $10 more than the AR6110 park flyer receivers. I've got five AR500's: two of them in my Parkzone P51-D Mustang BL BNF planes, one in my Radian RTF glider, one in a Nirvana Sailboat, and one in a ProBoat Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat. The planes and sailboat have gotten a lot of use at long range, with no range problems or glitches. I haven't run the Coast Guard Motor Lifeboat yet, though, but I doubt it will have problems.

My Futaba 9C and Spektrum DX7 NiMH packs were usually around 11.9 right off the charger. It would drop after the radio was on for a few minutes, but that's where they peaked out at.

As full range RX goes, I use the AR 6200 and AR 7000, I've seen too many problems with the AR500. I have only one short range receiver, 6100 and it has nor given any problems. I made a 2200 mah park for my TX and easily get 9+ hours of on time. For my .40 and smaller I use 4 cell 2200 mah, bigger than that I use 5 cell 2200 mah. 1/4 scale and larger planes, I use either a 5 cell 3200 mah or 3700 mah depending upon the plane. When going to a 5 cell pack you need to get a decent charger that can charge the pack.

Thanks everyone.. the AR500 shipped out today and my DX7 shipped out yesterday... can't wait to get my new radio set up!

If anyone has any spektrum receivers for sale PM me and I'll buy them... I still need about 3 to fill up my planes.. after I get all my planes set up with 2.4 I'm gonna buy some of the BNF planes... I'm thinking my first will be the Ultra Micro 4 Site.. it looks like a lot of "in your backyard" fun

Chevy - make sure to check your local craigslist site. Search on Spektrum. I'm willing to bet you'll find a few for sale.

Actually, it looks like they will officially announce it at 12am (EDT) Thursday morning (see the graphic from their website below left). Sound interesting! I wonder what the pricing will be like.

Not that I'm in the market for a new transmitter, because I'm not
Like my dx7 and ar7000. Also have the 6100 and just ordered another 7000 for my next plane. But I'm curious if the dx8 has an engine/throttle cut button which was omitted on the dx7. Anybody know? I miss that button.

Also, I don't doubt that some people have had problems with spektrum but almost everyone in my club uses one me included without any issues. Most of
us do use 6 volt receiver batteries.
Can't help but wonder how much of the hype about problems with spektrum is just competition BS. After all they do seem to outsell their competition.

If you can wait till the DX8 is available, having the telemetry will be a nice feature. If you are buying an ARF plane kit, keep in mind you'll have to spend a bit of time putting the plane together so it isn't critical to have the radio on the same day as you get the kit. Well, that depends on how long it takes you to put together your ARF, it always takes me a fair bit longer than the manufacturers claim. But then I'm a bit fussy with my builds.

So are you going to watch the telemetry on the transmitter while you're flying?

Only if I'm not talking on my cell phone or texting as well.

It would be cool if they had programmable alarms for voltage and temp sensing.

How does the telemetry work? Is it built into the receiver to communicate to the TX? Do you have to buy a separate Telemetry package to mount in the model?

If you look at the Spektrum surface telemetry systems, they have stand alone systems (telemetry sensing/transmitting units to place in the model, and receiving unit to clip to the radio), and they also have integrated systems with the telemetry TX/RX built into the radio equipment.

I'm assuming they'll have similar products for the aircraft radio systems.

Hey everyone got the DX7 today and it is AWESOME! it feels great in your hands the only thing I've bound it to is my Parkzone Vapor and it flies great.. Put a little expo on the rudder and elevator and it flies a lot smoother now and not as JUMPY as it was before with full deflection and no expo on the stock little TX. anyways thought I'd tell yall it's a great TX and can't wait to get my receiver and have an ultra micro 4 site on the way too

One thing to note about the DX7, it was designed into a 72MHz transmitter housing, so the positioning of the neck strap is such that it would balance out with a large 72MHz TX antenna fully extended. As a result, it doesn't balance with the short 2.4GHz antenna (that's why they sell the goofy looking [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM6703]neck strap adapter[/link]). The newer radios, like the DX6i and DX5e, have housings that were designed for the 2.4GHz TXs, and the neck strap connection is in the proper place to balance it out. A minor point, but something worth noting if you use a neck strap regularly (I don't).

Just flew my maiden with the AR500! Have it in my foamy right now for a test plane... FLEW GREAT... had it about as high as I could get the little foamy to climb with no problem.. hovers about 3 feet away from me no interference from being so close... no binding issues, no brown outs, no glitches... just fun flying and this might be my main receiver for my planes if I still have good experiences in the next few weeks... can't wait to get my Ultra Micro 4 Site to play with in the front yard

Hi, I was flying my P40 this sunday when I lost completly control and plane crashed. when checking my radio, I was greatly surprised to find out that I had a range problem. I flew this plane for so many times without any problem on DX 7 and suddently this problem happened.
