I had a defective ignition that would do that. Keep the ignition, battery and switch a foot away from any part of the radio system, esp the receiver. Make sure the metal shielding around the spark plug wire is intact.

Also make sure you keep all servos a foot away as well. Make sure you don't have a metal pushrod going to the carb on the engine. These can also transfer interference to your radio.

What DMcQ and RCKen said. Isolate the ignition module/spark (or magneto for non-EI engines) as far from servos and the receiver as possible. Use Nylon control rods to the throttle (AND choke, if so equipped).

If it runs at idle and dies when you throttle up it is likely too lean. Open the high end needle 1/8 turn and try again. Always stop the engine before adjusting the needle valves.

By the way: if it dies suddenly when you goose the throttle it's to lean, if it sputters and surges first it's too rich (tighten the high-end needle 1/8 turn).

Even after I set my last gasser up with everything way back from my RX I was still getting RFI. This sure wasn't my first gasser so I knew my set up was OK and kept trying to isolate all my radio gear with no luck. I ended up pulling my PPM RX and went to one of my PCM RXs and the problem went away. For the most part people using 2.4 are getting away with things the old timers couldn't, not all the time but most of the time. In the gas engine forum there are a lot of threads showing how to set up a gasser to remove the RFI but it's just what Ken said, keeping everything about a foot away from the engine and ignition. With PPM no mater what you do you can get hit with RFI.

I love Hi-tech...but an old time gas guy told me, and from the only glitching gasser that I saw Hi tech and gasser don't mix...any chance that your using hi tech...

I have used hitec and Futaba without problems. I have been known to break all the set up rules too and gotten away with it, until the first time I didn't. Last combo I had problems with it was the same engine and RX I had used before. The first set up I had a throttle servo and choke servo right up next to the ignition and engine without a glitch. same gear and it wouldn't work with the correct set up?? I try not to over think things so I went to a PCM to fix it. I tried a new Hitec and Futaba PPM without luck. The PCM I pulled out of one of my other gassers, that plane just happened to have a G 62 with a mag and before I moved the throttle servo back 18 inches I was having a problem with that too. Sometimes RFI happens, sometimes not?? Doesn't hurt to try different things and brand switching is a very easy thing to try. I will be switching over to 2.4 as money comes along but not for the glitching but it may be another reason for it?

I made the switch to 2.4 in early spring....went from a Futaba 9C to the 10C...glad I did too....stay with the same brand that is.....programming is the same, even easier on the 10C due to the cursor.....whatever I had set up on the 9C was exactly the same on the 10...trim, throws, end point, etc etc.....

Good Luck
