Hi Cen Racing...
I was wondering if there was any way i could reduce the turing diameter on my genesis. The turning diameter is huge.
I have moved the arm further out on the servo to increase it but this is still not enough.
Do i need to upgrade the steering servo to somthing better/stronger. Would is the maximum servo strenth without breaking anything.
Thanks for your time.....

Try the 4 wheel steering option they sell at http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/MainPage.htm
How do you like the Genesis? Have there been any problems?

Tyre Pressure.
What you can do is tighten your servo saver. The nut and spring assembly on your steering posts. This will give you more direct steering. Also, many people have been installing higher torque servos for steering. The stock servo offer alot of torque however there are other servos that offer much more. But keep in mind they are high in cost.
Kind Regards,

Hello Tyre pressure[8D].
Steering can be a problem sometimes and there are solutions if you want. Some are cheap and others are more costly.
You can coustom build/make the brake linkage rods so they are longer and will allow better leverage to be placed on your brake pads. This will involve more servo swing to allow these longer rods to operate properly. Usually this can be done with good results if you don't mind bending some steel. This is the cheap way to try to fix the "better brake" solution.
The other way is to buy a different servo which is stronger and will apply more pressure to your brake pads. I am going to cut and paste a previous posting from within my review of my Genesis on www.cengenesis.com ... I explain the specs of a couple different servos here as I hope you do not mind.
This has been my experience with my Genesis. Take care,, Peace "O"

>>>>>QUOTE>>>HI Toto67 How are you doing? To answer some of your questions, The steering on my truck will not turn the wheels when the truck is sitting still either. It is really hard on the servo to do this anyways so I don't try to turn the wheels unless the truck is moving. You can upgrade to a stronger servo. There is the Airtronics Servo, Model 9435-8Z Heavy Duty Steering Servo. The specs are: Torque: 200oz.@6V, Length: 1-9/16" (39.5mm), Width: 3/4" (19mm), Height: 1-1/2" (38mm), Weight: 1.9 oz, Speed: 0.10 sec at 60 degree rotation, 6 volts. It is expensive $105US dollars and up but it is considered the BEST servo available. I may eventually buy this servo and use the stock Genesis steering for the brakes since it has more power than the stock brake servo. There is the Hitec/RCD HS-945MGJ HT 2BB Coreless Servo also. The specs are:Transit time: 0.16 sec/ 60 deg. @ 4.8v (0.12 sec/deg @ 6V),Torque: 8.8kg-cm (122 oz-in) @ 4.8V (153 oz-in @ 6V) and less expensive than the airtronics but still expect to pay $75-$90US dollars for it.
Some people have been switching the stock brake servo with a stronger one and have been getting very good results. ACE@, a member here just posted in this review and explained what he did to achieve better function of the brakes and such. I think I will do the same as he did as I appreciate awsome braking power,, strong and precise steering response when the truck is moving and If I replace the stock brake servo with a better one (HI-Tec 945MG) the throttle response will be very SNAPPY since the servo is soo fast,,I like SNAPPY. I ALSO use the Hi-Tec945mg for my 1/8 scale rc buggy's brakes. When I pull full throttle it is instantaneous with no servo transition lag.<<<<END QUOTE<<<<<
ANOTHER QUOTE from this review,,,,,>>>>QUOTE>>>>
Brakes work but if you upgrade the steering servo,,put the stock steering servo on the throttle-brake and harness the benefits!!<<<<END QUOTE<<<<.

hello all
so you have problems with your turning diameter as well.
this is what i did.
im gonna give you the half long version.
shortly after i bought my genesis i noticed that it would turn good one way and not the other. i tried and tried to get it to work. i did everythng listed in this post. used a longer servo arm, changed the servo, extended the linkage, drilled a new hole closer to the center of the servo saver arm (hard to explain). blah blah blah. the only thing that worked was when i switched the radio gear to my savage stuff. then with the stock genesis, stock genny reciever, and savage radio i had full steering, lock to lock!
i called the shop i bought it from and said i had a problem. he put me in touch with the importer in our area. i explained my problem to him. when he spoke to CEN they suppled me a new radio. i tried the new one and it did the same thing! switched back to the savage radio and it worked again. now i knew for sure there was a common problem with the stock genesis radio.
the steering wheel on the new radio was getting bound up on the transmitter body. i figured that i could put a washer to give a bit more space. when i took off the wheel i saw the plastic stops that limit the steering wheel from turning all the way around. i took a knife to these. removed about two milli from each side, put in a spacer mounted the wheel and tried it again. now i had wayyyyy better steering. i did this one more time, removing a bit more material. perfect. infact now i had to use a shorter servo arm! this is a good thing because it reduces the strain in the steering servo.
dont waste your money on a new servo unless yours fails. (mine did) this mod is FREE!
i had a few other problems with mine (all taken care of by CEN), but all is well now.

I have the same problem... if i turn to the right i get full turn but if i turn the left it does not turn fully. I also get the feeling that the steering stops before it should on the transmitter. I have moved the steering arm out the the far end of the servo arm too which did improve it slightly but as you pointed out it puts more force on the servo.

hey tyre pressure
in fact this worked so well for me i replaced the stock servo arm with an OFNA aluminum servo saver which is shorter. either way, try it out and let me know. if it works pass it on to the rest here.

Hi! I had problems with the steering on my Genesis, so changed steering servo to a Hitech HS-645 servo ( I have a 6 volt receiver battery) this should give the servo about 9,6 kg torque. It´s SO much better. The CEN 10 kg servo performs very bad.... the HS-645 is also quite cheap (at least here in Sweden) about 75 usd. I tried the steering servo as throttle servo but it dosen´t turn as much as the throttle servo did, so i changed back to the original one. I also changed the radio to a Hitech CRX transmitter, the CEN Impact has very bad range and a lot of my friends have had problems.

hey trancemaster
i tried changing the servo too but it didnt work for me. the only thing that got engough swing out of the servo was my savage transmitter. so i got in contact with the local CEN importer and they replaced my radio. i still had the problem with the new one. after i cut back the stops on the new radio i had all the swing i needed from the servo and more.
i do agree that the stock servo is garbage. my original servo stripped after two tanks. CEN replaced that to. i havent had a chance to run it yet with the new servo. hopefully it will last longer.

I took of the servo yesterday and today i am going back to the shop where i bought the truck.
No matter if i changed transmitter (used my savage tranny) nothing happened. So i checked the length of the swing of the servo and noticed that when turning right it only moved 65% of the swing when i turn left. So something must be wrong with the servo.
I also noticed that it does not react in the same way as the 5kg throttle servo, the 10kg servo is allot slower in reacting. maybe it should be like this but i do not know...
I have a good relationship with the shop where i bought it... i will let them check it.... otherwise this will go on the warranty.

I went to the shot where i bought my savage and we tested the servo and it worked fine. SO i take it something is wrong with the transmitter.
But instead i bought a new servo and a 6v pack instead... if this does not work then i have no idea what will.

Well i have installed a new 9.6kg servo and adjusted the steering stops on the transmitter....BINGO i get full steering.
I have no idea what is wrong with the old servo because something is not right with it but that went strait in the bin.
