Default More ATX Problems

Well at todays bash, I got 15mins if that out of my ATX before the 1st gear went again This is very strange, I got told that my meshing looks fine ect, but it still happened. Im in the process of making a skidplate for it that will cover the flywheel & gears to stop debris.I also noticed that the front wheels arn't turning but the driveshafts are still intact. Any help please CEN? CEN Racing : Can you possibley make some hardened clutchbells & gears for this baby, she just carn't handle offroad at all! But worst of all :
The front plate that holds the steering & diff ect came mightly loose, to loose for my like'ing to be honest. 2 counter-sunk screws where missing, and the ramaining one was sticking out about 20mm at a 30 degree angle! These where tightened by using a battery drill and where super tight!!
I do like this car but it seems unfortunate that I have to fork out more £££ every time I use it

right - check ur chassis straightness as i said in my other post mate, and be sure to use a little thread lock on screws into metal parts. as for the hole near the flywheel, i just use some tape on both sides of the chassis to keep grit etc out.

i know i keep sayin this to people, but if u can get hold of the one piece chassis by JT Racing, then u will notice a whole load of difference in the reliability of all parts, due to the extra stiffness of it, it is made of a much stiffer alloy than the standard chassis. i havent stripped a spur gear since fitting it many months ago, and thats with an os18cvr in there, running on the beach...

nearly forgot - check that ur driveshaft cup right next to the brake, is clamping the shaft properly on the flat part of the shaft, i have had the same prob when i accidentally tightened it on the round part of the shaft - i hope that makes sense!!

I had that happen to me on my MT2. Easy fix. I thought it was going to be much worse.

Right I have my chassis stripped & it is straight, just a few bends around the front bumper plate ect. Could someone tell me which way the little disk sits inside the gear? With the lip facing out of the gear or into it?
Thanks
Karl

Thanks Poor Judgement!

Rather than make another thread of ATX problems I'll use this one. Now when I took my spur gears out, it was the big red gear that had stripped (T47) , the 2nd gear right? Now how could this be? The car wasn't even shifting gears & it had stripped! And now my Clutchbells teath are wobbling slightly, but it's not worrying me too much.

nah - the 47t is 1st gear.

if ur chassis is still straight, then it could just be some flexing that is causing the gear to strip. do u have the alloy brake seat, that helps a lot. it might be worth trying some extra bracings, try some m3 rod, cheap from the lhs and easy to do. have a look in the pic between the brake seat and the front diff top plate mount to see what i mean.

everything kinda loosened up on mine after a year or so of good hammering about, i changed the self tapping screws in the plastic parts for m3 screws, the tighter thread gave a better bite.

all these bits done together do make quite a bit of difference.

hope that helps

I too thought it could be flexing, I ran about 5-6 tanks through the car on a flast, industrial estate road with no problems. But as soon as the car hits offroad, it goes straight away.
No, I don't have the aloy brake seat, where can I find that? My dad got me a couple of hundred new counter-sunk screws from work, and these seem to hold up alot better than the stock CEN ones that tend to wobble out after a while.

Thanks, I will take a look!

Whilst I've got the front & rear diffs off, what grease is best to pack them with?

Cheers

Karl_RC:

You can use CEN2000 Greese for your front and rear diff. This is the same grease we used on our Race MT, ST and ATX. It is about 300000 weight. Thank you for your inquires

well what can i say about the atx ?
well i got mine back in January and first if all it had a habit of breaking the stub axle in the hub both front and rear my friends mt2 was doing the same parts as well
then it moved on to diff cups these were breaking after quite minor jumps again mt2 was doing the same so we came to the conclusion it was just the factory fitted parts causing trouble now the cups and axles have been replaced we have had no more problems.touch wood
now I'm not here to drag the good name of cen and atx through the mud i want to thank cen for making a great product
and give everyone reading this a good laugh
last week i took my atx and my mate took his Genesis round another friends to show them off. me being brave and more experienced with r/c models decided to play next to the river ( see where i'm going with this ) .
well to cut to the chase after a small jump and a badly placed stone the atx ended upside down with one wheel just visible under the surface of the river .
well i thought i had killed the poor beast but after removing the air filter and glow plug and getting rid of the water the engine fired up first pull !!!!!!!!!!
the battery box was damp inside but not full of water but still the receiver didn't want to play so after a night pulled apart and in a warm cupboard a quick retest showed everything had dried out !!!!!!
and less than 24 hours after sinking to the bottom of a river my atx was up and running again
so thank you again cen for designing a car suitable for bad drivers like me
one more thing 4 of us have cars my atx an mt2, a genesis and my other friend has just got a revo this week does anyone have any quick easy and inexpensive ideas to help me keep ahead of these guys when racing both on road and off road ?
