Default i give in...

dammit - finally i have to use the forum!!

i got all my bits here to finish this thing at last, but have hit a problem, how did u guys running front buggy shocks or any other 100mm or longer shocks get them to fit the standard towers? my shocks measure 105mm hole centre to hole centre, and are to long for the jt racing towers. this means if i mount them on the jt towers i lose shock travel - defeats the object.

i can sort it by bolting some spare towers to the existing ones, but it looks ugly - is that how u guys got em on?

has anyone tried fixing the lower shock mount actually in the arm, like they are on the 1/8 buggies?

while im here - anyone know where in the UKi can get a 43t and 39t genesis steel spur gears from?

btw - ground clearance with tmaxx wheels on is hilarious with these shocks, pics soon, damn truck...

Good to see you back online mate. Instead of making the towers higher have you thought of finding a compatible 1:8 buggy a-arm? Some of them look decidedly similar to CENs' own and may work with a bit of persuasion. I'll see if I can spot any likely candidates if you want.

I modified my towers on the mt2... cut out the area below the shock mounting bolt to get proper fit... works well... just as strong as before... what shocks are you using... I have t-maxx shocks...

its certainly a thought scouser, but i dont have a any good lhs here to compare all the different arms against the diff casing im afraid, they just want ur cash round here. it would be ideal tho mate, yea. i may end up cutting into the cen arm instead. but if u see anything thats likely to fit then please give me a shout, cheers.

the shocks are ofna ultra lx shocks, alledgedly from the front of the buggy, ie shorter than the rears, i heard on the wildhobbies forum that they fit fine... i just realised i forgot to grind a bit of clearance for my diff cup mods, that gives me a little more arm movement, but the truck is gonna end up way to high at this rate for my purposes. so im gonna have to lose some length somewhere from these shocks, now i have them i want to make them work.

does anyone know if shorter lower ends are available for the shocks? some of these and moving the lower mount outwards on the arm, would get a little more length lost too.

so what sort of amount of ground clearance are u guys getting, with what shocks and wheels fitted?

cheers

One other thought on how to get this thing to work, instead of trying to make the a-arms fit, how about the whole diff? The diffs on the Mayhem buggy were described as narrower than normal buggy diffs, if these can be made to mount on your chassis then the standard arms and shock towers would be used from this buggy. I will be going to my lhs in a few days so I will take a few measurements from the bottom of a few of the buggies they have there and let you know how close they are to CENs' measurements. Alternatively, if you ask nicely in the buggy forum, maybe some kind soul will measure their diff dimensions for you? Might be worth a try. If it works you would never have to worry about blowing your diff gears again!! No way a small block, even the OS.18tz would hurt them.

I put T-Maxx size shocks on my MT2 and the extra length and travel of the shock would make the dogbones bind at the diffs, especially when fully extended. I took the shocks apart and put a small piece of fuel tubing over the shock shaft, put it back into the shock body and put another small piece of fuel tubing over the outside of the shaft. It took awhile to figure out the exact length of tubing required but when finished the shock travel stops just before binding when the shock is fully extended or compressed. I found out later that the rubber spacer/o-ring was missing from the diff cups and this contributed to the binding problem. Make sure the spacers are in before making adjustments to the travel. Good luck and let us know how you solve the problem and don't stay away from the forum just to spite Cen, a lot of us have enjoyed sharing the detailed descriptions of your mods and problem fixes.

thanks for the suggestions guys - i think im sorted now. turning the lower mount around on the lower arm has created more space than i expected. i just need to redrill the arm to bring it all in nice and tidy.

Looking good mate. Will you be submitting any pics into the CEN site? Reckon yours must be one of the most highly modified out there.

Glad to see you back.
I honestly believe that those are not front buggy shocks. The reason that I say this is, stock Tmaxx shocks are 103mm long and the Traxxis xx-long shocks are 103. The majority of the buggy front shocks that I have seen are between 90 and 100 mm long.
Watch that lower atatchment closely if you do not have 2 scews in it. There is quite a bit of force applied to it.

rolland - hell yea, i will be countersinking a hole to take the mount and another screw. that will drop the suspension a little more too, which is what i wanted...

where can i get a kit to mount the shocks properly to the tower? spacers and what not, as the hole thru the top of the shock is too large for the cen setup, im in the uk...

cheers

You are probably looking for some thing like this:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXABC8&P=7
I used something similar and used extra shock pistons as spacers.
