I seem to be having some difficulties in starting up my Cen MT2 truck. When I had the factory NT16 engine, I never had this much with starting up. I recently installed a brand new NT18 motor. I understand the new engine has more power, more resistance, and of course, the piston and sleeve are going to be very tight. I use a hair dryer to warm up the motor a bit and that usually allows me to start up the motor quickly. But, when I am outside where its cold, my pull starter is very tight and gets locked up after a few pulls. If I loosen the glow plug just a tiny bit, it makes it easier to pull the motor, but, a bit of fuel will come up from the glow plug area. I am now thinking that my IDLE is set too rich? I almost always use the Tiger Starter kits as I do not like pull starters. This is my only truck with a pull start. Any suggestions out there on the proper way to pull start an engine? Thanks to all...

Sounds like it is geting flooded. it could be that you are over priming it... If your idle is too high, you would notice it when the truck is running. perhaps your LSN is very rich?
Make sure to use a hot plug in these engines, an OS #8 or similar. Also, double check that your glow ignitor is working good and fully charged. i have ran both the NT 16 and NT18, and havent had any starting trouble with either of them.
Also, i actually prefer pull starts, just less equipment to lug around and they always work good for me.

Thanks Dustin. Yep, I will have to double check my LSN setting. I only get 1 or 2 pulls before the handle starts jerking back when I try to pull start the motor. It must be quick flooding. I have not had much luck with pull starts. I agree that pull starts is great because you dont have to carry around the drill starter. Its just frustrating as I always get sore knuckles and fingers from the pull start jerking back. Thanks for the info. I will try to clean/flush out the engine and reset the LSN. Try Try Again.

Okay, Got the LSN set correctly. I was flooding the engine, so the pull start was jerking back. Now after a few runs, a new problem comes up. Of course
A few months ago, I upgraded the spur gears to metal. Now after a total of 5 or 6 tank runs, both gears on my clutch bell have been chewed up by the metal spur gears. Was I supposed to upgrade the bell gears as well? when installing metal spur gears? The clutch bell gears are metal by factory, so, metal to metal gears should last, Right? I must have missed something, any suggestions out there? [&:]

glad to hear it started.
I am assuming you chewed up the stock aluminum(colored) gears?
You need to be running the steel pinions(silver)

been a long time since Ive had the stock pinions, I cant remember the ratio. But these steel ones are 14-17 tooth.

Thanks. Yep, chewed up the aluminum gears. duh, aluminum vs steel. Of course they got chewed up. Sorry, I have other RC trucks like T-Maxx and Mammoth, so I assumed that all gears were steel. I was going to purchase the Steel Set, but, wasnt sure if I had the correct CUSTOMRCCARS parts numbers. Your link helped me to confirm. Not bad, A $9 dollar Fix, one of my easier and cheaper repairs. Yipee. Already ordered the replacement. I should have known, because today's run, I was hearing the gears running much louder than normal, the temp guage was fine, and LSN/HSN settings right, then the car just stopped running. Yup, chewed gears. Oh Well, a simple fix, right? Thanks again Dustin.... [8D]

have someone work the throttle while the other tuggs
also dont shut down the car by the pipe- this can flood the motor
these tip might be helpful... just a little basic advice
ALSO WHEN DEALING WITH LOOSE PLUGS BE VERY CAREFUL AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN THE PLUG DWON IMEDIATLEY AFTER GETTING THE MOTOR FIRED UP...#@!$
