So I get my new Nemesis and I really like what I see. I unpack it and the first thing I do is change the steering servo to the 333 in/oz hitec, and then set up the radio and give it the once over to make sure everything looks OK. A few pulls on the starter and it seems to pull really easy. This is contrary to what I have read about, wearing gloves and getting blisters starting the engine. So I fill it with fuel, attach a glow starter and give the rope 30 some pulls. --- Nothing Nada Zip - but I notice some oil getting all over the car. So I decide to pull the head off to see what gives. Low and Behold I have 2 head gaskets. The 2nd one is not quite where it needs to be. The pictures are worth a thousand words. I reassembeld the head with only one gasket, it didn't appear to be damaged, and It started right up.

Ready to run doesn' always mean ready to run...I always pull the engine out of any new vehicle to check it and seal it up before I begin the break in process

Your going to see 2 gaskets. They are there for proper spacing and compression adjustment. I am not surprised to see the misalignment of the second gasket. When a manufacturer assembles thousands of units there will be 1 or 2 that might get by QC. Now if you call CEN they will be very happy to replace ANY parts that have been damaged on that Engine. Just give customer service a call and they will hook ya up. you should use the second gasket as the compression will be a touch higher and cause possible unneccessary damage to the unit...
Call them: 714-792-1924
Exactly as Soilwork said,, Check it out before you break it out!!!
I always take apart new engines of all brands to clean out any possible debris that may got in there while manufacturing, it happens in factories...

I guess I better call them and get a 2nd gasket. The 'xploded view of the motor only showed one gasket. I don't want to blow up a new motor. I have only idled 2 tanks thru the motor so far, so no harm done. Thanks TRD

You can run one shim, it will be fine. If anything, you will up the compression just a bit.
Whats it going to hurt if he does it right?? Sure it will run, and sure his compression will increase, but why not do it right just in case something happens?? Do you realize that if he takes your advice and something does happen, he can blame you?? Not that he would, but..... You never know....

Your tactics are futile, my conscience and I parted ways long ago!
Seriously though, theres no harm in removing a shim to up compression AS LONG as the piston doesnt hit the head, and thats not happening in this case. He also said the exploded view only shows one shim. Maybe this is the case.
you could run both, or "live dangerously" and run one...

I sent CEN an Email along with the pictures and asked them to send me a replacement head gasket. Haven't heard back from them yet.
HEY CEN......... How many head gaskets are there supposed to be in the Nemesis Motor?????????????????????
Will it hurt the motor or void the warranty to run with one gasket???????????????????
Bob

CEN has responded to my Email about how many head gaskets to use. Here is their reply:
You can use one or two- depends on the compression you are looking for in
comparison to the fuel mix.... most of the mags say you should run two shims
with 30%- I run just one and have no problems.
Have a great day,
Customer Service
So I will run with one and should be in good shape. Now I can't blame webdr if my motor blows up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
