Some of you people might know Don Lowe's famous Phoenix's Series, with the fiber glass fuselage and a Foam wing. Well, I used to have the Phoenix 9 which I had for nearly 30 years. It was sitting there in my workshop untill one of my friends suggested to prepare it for me and then fly it together, which took at least one month to prepare the airplane. After 3 Flights with it, it ended up on the ground (Smash!). The phoenix had an MVVS .77 size engine with a tuned pipe. Everything that I took out form the plane was at least in one piece, except for the plane itself. You can see the pictures that I got before the crash and after the crash
.
I would also want to ask if there is anyone who knows where I might be able to find a Phoenix 7 or 9, I would be very thankful for the contribution. Also please feel free to ask any question regarding the airplane, as I intend to fix the fuselage in which it didn't take that much of the damage. The wing area is cut in to two pieces as I will try to make a template of the good side of the wing to make a new one. If anyone has some Ideas on how to fix a Fiber glass fuselage please lets hear them!

rainedav,
Thanks for the site, I've checked it today morning and they sure do have a lot of classics in it. I've Seen the Phoenix 8, but I would be more interested in a phoenix 7 or 9. Phoenix 8 has a longer (nose) if I may say which is the main thing that did not attract me like Phoenix 7 or 9. I've also heard that there is Phoenix 10? would you think that the mold of the Phoenix 10 is still available ?

Hmmm...
Not to disagree but to help you find a replacement.
I don't think your plane was a Phoenix 9.
Maybe Jon, Don's son, will see this thread and clarify.
I remember seeing just a couple partial views of the Phoenix 9 prototype and it was quite a departure from the earlier Phoenix series.
I don't even know if it was ever kitted or plans offered.
Your model looks pre P-8...I'm guessing maybe even a 6.
If I may ask...
Why do you believe it was a Phoenix 9?
Once again, not trying to be a critic...just trying to help you get the correct replacement.
Good Luck

Before I forget ,Thank you rainedav ! I really appreciate it !
When this happened today at the field, I was shocked[X(]. 1) I could not control the plane which the elevator was pulling the plane to the top, so I had to neutralize it by pulling it down. Suddenly it was going in circles facing the ground and that's when it smashed ! 2) I think that the wooden pieces that holds the servo (probably too much pressure) one of them was broken and that's when (I think) I could't control the plane. but now, this plane is history ! Do you think that there might be someone would could rebuild the Wing for me ? because I think most of the phoenix series were nearly the same in the wing area?

jlkonn,
To be honest, I'm not sure if it is a Phoenix 9, because one of my friends who used to have a phoenix 6 or 7 I think, once he saw my phoenix he guessed and said that it is a Phoenix 9. But I can't be sure because I can't rely on 1 person's opinion. I know you are trying to help, so no worries about that ! Thanks ! . Do you think that there might be some spare parts for it ? Especially the wing. Because the fuselage is in a pretty good shape, it can be fixed but it'll take a while to do so. Can anyone suggest please an I dea on how to fix the fuselage?

Wing Mfg. used to have foam cores for the Phoenix series.
I would check their website or email them.
I am sure you can get replacements.
I would try the "Classic Pattern" site as well.
I was a big fan of the Phoenix series when I competed in pattern back in the early mid-80's
I had a P-6 and P-8.
Your model does not have the chin characteristic of the 8.
It looks as though your wing skins wrap around the leading edge of the foam...there is no shaped balsa leading edge.
Is this correct?
I'd sure bet it was a 6 but I have been wrong before.
The only reason it is important is so you get the right wing.

jlkonn,
The one I have does not have a chin characteristic of the 8.
"Your wing skins wrap around the leading edge of the foam...there is no shaped balsa leading edge".
Can you please explain a bit more, because I don't seem to get it [sm=confused_smile.gif].
But Most Likely as you said, Phoenix 6.
Thanks,
Mob-Z

Generally foam wings usually are sheeted first with "skins" and then the balsa leading and trailing edges are glued on and then shaped.
My Phoenix 6 had foam cores that had a rounded foam leading edge that was meant to have a one piece "skin" wrapped around it.
There was no balsa "stick" type stock on the leading edge.

jlkonn,
That's for sure is the one you just discribed ! it looks like as it is a one piece wing. So this is definately a Phoenix 6, Thanks jlkonn !
You said earlier, Wing Mfg. used to have foam cores for the Phoenix series. so do they still have it ? or maybe it's better to email them and hopefully I would find the wing for it.

Mob Z,
I couldn't navigate the "catalog" on the Wing Mfg. site.
Otherwise I would have been glad to look up the P-6 wing and linked it to you.
Maybe someone reading this will have better luck.
In the meantime you may like to email them.
Also, 8178 is very knowledgeable about this stuff, there may be someone on the "classic pattern" site that can stear you to a set of wings.
Good luck!

I still have my P-8, though it is very rough... The P-9 (if I recall correctly) looked a lot like the old Checkmate. Very different from the early Birds. Don Lowe was talking about flying at our local Jacksonville contest, so I'll ask him!
