Thanks for the reminder. I need to call Dbalsa too, since I need cores for the Super Kaos, Dirty Birdy and the Giant Chaos and 2+2 Dirty Birdy as well.

David, Dynamic Balsa does have the Escape cores. Measuring off the plans, the root chord and span of the Escape and XLT cores are the same. The Escape has a little more sweep and the cores have a 6" tip chord whereas the XLT cores have a 7 1/2" tip chord. The Escape cores can therefore be used on the XLT fuselage, you'd just have a little bit more LE sweep and bit less overall wing area. You can tell I'm not a hardcore purist.

After looking at all the DB's here on RCU I thought I'd post a pic of the DB Version I'm building. I say version because I've added a small belly pan to the wing to fair it to the fuse better and I've whipped out my own canopy made of Fiberglass. I'm going to be putting in a Rossi 61 rear exhaust, so I want to run the pipe thru the canopy. I know , I know I won't have much canopy left in the end but I just had to try. Oh yeah, taildragger with retracts. (Yes I've read the thread about nosing over after I made the decision to make it a taildragger. I'm hoping that my superior flying skills and the fact that the Lord protects fools will let me get away with it;-)

Now the pic is of the rough sanded plane and the canopy just sitting on top of the fuse. When I get it finished in a year or two I'll send a pic of it finished. (I hate covering!)

Looks great Mark. That rear 3/4 view of the DB/UFO is one of my favorite shots of any pattern plane. They just look so cool from that angle.

Nice job on your canopy Mark, can't WAIT to see a pipe going thru it! Sure enjoyed my old Dirty Birdy, makes me want to build another. Keep up the good work- don't keep us waiting for 2 years!

Rainedave, You may want to have your eyes checked before you fly again, mine can't compare to your efforts. And yes I also love the 3/4 view of pattern planes. I don't want to live in a world without good lookin planes! Thanks for the compliment.

Jeff, Thanks for the compliment. Got some bad news, I've decided I can't cut my canopy and I'm going to use a side exhaust engine. (I can be such a wimp at times.) This is my first DB, although I've built many Super Kaos'. I hope I can enjoy it also.

One note on one Super Kaos I built. I always bragged that my plane could take any flight load put on it. So one day (Long before anyone thought of a blender.) I took it up high and at full throtle I nosed it over into a dive and after a few seconds I put it into a violent negative snap. And snap it did, in fact it sounded like someone fired off a shot gun. So I got it out of the dive and gingerly landed the plane. After going over it with a fine tooth comb no damage could be found. Flew it for another year or so then sold it to another club member and he flew it till he crashed it. In fact I do believe that the tailfeathers are still flying on a Kaos somewhere. Never could figure what caused the loud bang when doing that snap. And I've never done that again, nor do I want to.

Mark

P.S. I'm going to put the air tank for the retracts in the canopy airspace. May as well make use of all that space!
