Much better in color although you can now see that it doesn't quite match the original shown in kingaltair's post. Think I prefer Jim's later scheme.

Thanks for the location of the photo. That's the photo I used to "paint" my Beachcomber. I thought that it was from the King Orange. I'll correct my documentation package.

The photo lightened up the colors. I used royal blue and true red Monocote. Both are a lot darker.
The flight test went very well. Some trim, cg and throw issues, nothing serious. I'll start real testing later this week. The ST61BH and a 12/6 prop are, if anything, too much power.
The short fuselage looks really funny after flying my Deceptions for so long.
It lands like a dream with that big wing and low wing loading.

Good to see you yesterday at Ocala with the new Beachcomber. Aircraft looks great on the ground and in the air. Good luck with future flights.

The first "public" outing of the Beachcomber will be at the IRKS VR/CS contest in mid October at their Cocoa field. All else is going well. Next test flights tomorrow. I added a drag brake on the nose wheel. I've got to figure out how to get brakes on the wheels since the elevator servo is in the tail. Ouch, one more servo.

Hello, fellow rc flyers/builders,
My son and I were just talking of building a pair of Jim Kirklands "Beachcomber" airplanes. In the mid 60's I taught him to fly with a Beachcomer and he took to it like a duck to water and was shooting touch and go's in very short order. He learned a lot faster then I did! I was so impressed I gave him my airplane, with a Super Tigre 60 and proline radio. I can't rememeber if he was in the 6th grade or the 7th for sure but we had a blast flying together and that sparked and interest with my other boys that were right behind him in age.
So, I am asking, is there anyone that can help me find some plans for the Beachcomber? I would be very grateful. Thank you, Steve.

The AMA has the plans. WWW.MODELAIRCRAFT.ORG shop AMA under plans letter B. AREA 18, Price $23.00, AMA# 29161, Pond # 68F6. If this doesn't work I have a set somewhere in my shop. I have not seen them in a while. Team Vortex is flying one in SPA and they are talking up the Antique contest comming up. You can check out the SPA contest schedule at their web site www.seniorpattern.com. Good luck and it's agreat flying plane!

I traced them in CAD a while back. I greatly simplified the construction, but kept the external outlines and dimensions.
Here is a small screenshot of the plans.
Right Click on the "attachment.txt" below and choose "Save link as..." from the pop-up menu. Then, rename it "beachcomber.pdf" and save it onto your computer. Be sure to get rid of the txt extension and replace it with pdf when renaming it.

I would like to thank all those that responded to me with my last post, regarding the BeachComber by Jim kirkland. My son and I really injoyed flying it many years ago.
I was having difficulty finding the plans for it and Teamvortex, Kr9x, and raindave all resonded to me promptly and I was able to order the plans from AMA plans department though be it a bit confusing at first.
I just got the plans today and took a quick look at them and noticed a few changes from the old Veco kit as I remembered it. my wing tips were not dooped as I recall it, and there was no air scoop for the aileron servo either. Or is it possible my memory just went ka-put on me once again? I don't know of anything else yet but regardless, we will be building two of them soon I hope. Thanks to all that came to my aid in this. A special thanks to raindave as he aided me in getting plans for a Tri-Squire as well a while back which I decided to put on the back burner for a bit. I'll get to that this winter I hope. Happy flying guy's Steve. (Half Flaps) P.S. I never could find that last post, I just don't get along with computers at all!

I am the contest coordinator for the I.R.K.S club and we have moved the date for the V.C.R.S./S.P.A. to February for 2010 please see the events calander at www.irks.org.. On another note the president of our club has an original Beach Comber built by Jim Kirkland he has restored it and it is going to go to the A.M.A museum

The construction article appeared in May 1963 Model Airplane News. Eureka Aircraft has a short kit with plans available at their web site http://eurekaaircraft.com/plan_kits/Beechcomber.htm
Hope this helps.
