Default Tower Servos?

Is This A Good Servo?
Does anyone in this forum have experience using the Tower TS-70 Super-Torque Metal-Geared Ball Bearing Servo? The specs look good and the price is righteous. More than 100 oz/in torque. Just wondering if anyone has used these and if so, how are they?
Regards
JC

Trisquire, A number of years ago I fell into the same deal you are. Anybody remember 'DAD' Design and Development I think was the brandname. Advertised low cost stuff and I bought 10 for $10.00 each. Like your deal they showed excellent specs. Lost 2 planes over those servos and learned a lesson. Never again, Futaba, JR, or Hitech for me. It was a long time before I trusted Hitec but I have had good results with them. If you go cheap in this hobby you get junk every time. If I have to save for a while to buy a quality servo engine or what ever, so be it.............sugarfox

Yeah, but how do you know they're not just Futaba servos with Tower labels on them? Not necessarily a top-of-the-line digital servo. Tower's house brand radios have always been a reputable brand disguised as Tower. Back when Kraft was King, they were essentially Kraft Sport Series radios. I remember the transmitter looking identical.

You can take a look at these on Tower. They are both right at the price range. Both quality products. I like Hitec myself.

Futaba S3305 Servo High-Torque Standard w/Metal Gears

LM1930 Hitec HS-645MG High-Torque 2BB Metal Gear Servo

Thank you

Gee, how did we ever fly using AM receivers and 28 inch/oz. servos in the Seventies. I even flew pattern with this stuff and never lost a plane because of radio or servo failure.

You're right Ed. The more you have, the more you think you need. I've had good luck and bad with all the mfg's. At some time everything breaks. If it don't work out of the box, don't fly with it, send it back. If it works don't worry about it, go fly.

Tower like any thing or place else in this hobby has it''s place. Electronics that guide my build or creation in the sky will not and never will be one of the non brand name variants. When it comes to radios I am Partial to JR. They have a good tempo for releasing new and innovative servos and from the 9303 on up to the DSM12X these radios are second to none in programing, feel and finish. The Quality is superb and they look great. I can''t force my self to risk my time , money and effort in cheap engines and electronics or even hardware as I want to build and fly not crash and fix.

Save up a few more bucks and buy the part you don''t have to ask your self if it will be ok.[8D] Be cool and don''t worry be happy!

Tower Hobbies Servos are Re-Badged Hitec's.

Great servos. Especially the digital series.

The Tower 6 channel tx is a re-badged Futaba 6EXA, but with a few less menu features, like model naming.

If you want to save a few bucks on servos, type in DS821 into *bay. The Spektrum radios come with four JR DS821's and a lot of people who buy them replace the servos with giant scale 3D servos, for example. They sell the four brand new DS821's with the mounting hardware. I just bought four a few weeks a go for $59.99. They are $29.99 each from Horizon.

Example: 220227746971

I would not be concerned about them working I would be concerned about the centering of a 100 oz. servo on a Pattern ship.

I am a HUGE fan of the Hitec-645MG servo (107oz @ 4.8V and 133oz. @ 6V) but they are not fast and the centering leaves something to be desired. [)] On sport airplanes no problem on a high speed plane or precision ballistic os SPA plane- nope.

I admit I have never tried the Tower servos however.
