You're welcome to download the original Jim Kimbro plans from my web sharing site. Here's the link:

Happy building - the Deception is a beautiful sleek and long classic with compound curves everywhere. I look forward to finishing my small 40" span Deception sometime in the near future. Should you be interested, here's a link to the build thread:

almost missed this post. Very nicely done! And congrats on a successful maiden. So I take it you were overall happier with the foam core approach than the built up? I find foam yields straighter and truer wings but that is due to the builder... I like the fact that you can sand the pair in their shucks to identical dimensions - very hard to reproduce that with balsa wings, especially since there are no shucks.
BTW, what's the state of your Tipo? My 28 year project is finally completely framed up! Getting the anhedral stab located and permanently in place is a major hurdle. Once that was done, I continued to move forward. I'm working on some final glass work (rudder tip, wing chin block) before hitting some filler and primer. Was hoping to get primer on the wing center section today... that would be a monumental leap forward. I'll believe it when I see it. My goal now is to have the model fully painted by the end of the month and leave the flying surface covering and final setup for September... we'll see how it goes. I'm psyched!

Nice,
good thing you were able to land despite the rudder issue. Whenever I see a model in that trim scheme, I will know who it belongs to!
For my part, a monumental achievement was indeed accomplished today. I have the Tipo wing primed with high build and am just waiting for some glazing filler to dry so that it can be sanded down to accept white primer. Once that's done, 90% of the paint work on the wing is done. The actual paint is pretty quick.
I also managed to get my stab fillets complete and ready for primer together with the fuse. I filled all seams and pin holes in the fuse and made a huge mess of sanded filler. A little masking and I'll be able to hit the fuse with primer too. But... may you be my witness, something like holidays starting on Thursday will cut into my momentum. The day I have gloss clear in my hand ready for it to be shot, I will be a happy man...
I think it was almost three years ago that I made my first post on RCU on the subject of this model. You were among the first I exchanged some comments with on our Tipo's. Low and behold, things do change.

David,
Probably wasn't clear about that rudder deflection. I believe it happened after landing, on taxi. Actual approach and touchdown were normal.
Good to chat with you again.

I don't believe a clean full CAD plan of the Deception was ever produced by those of us involved in CAD redesigns of the classics. In truth, the Deception is such a simple design construction wise that scratch building from the original plans is not a major undertaking. The only parts that one could questionably laser cut for it are the fuse sides, three formers and fin but it's IMO not worth the time and expense when scratching it is quite straight forward.
Where there is plenty of room for improvement is in making it a much lighter model (fuse) which is also not hard with a little creative thinking.
There are probably half a dozen scratch build Deception threads on this forum (including my little 40" span version).

I had a copy of the original plans, and as i recall, the top of the fuselage is flat, making building it as easy as a Kaos. The plans called for foam wings which are still available. The plans for the Deception are still copyright belonging to Airage and available from the airagestore.

Thanks all. I have the original plans from AirAgeStore, and I have plans from my old Bridi kit. I was thinking of a built-up wing for this one. That's where the plans and/or laser cut parts question came from. I agree. The fuselage is about as simple as it gets, but I prefer laser cut for ribs.

Hello All,
I'm interested in creating a CADdrawing/model from the rather beat-up plan that I used in the build thread "Deception Rescue".
I did search RCU to make sure that I'm not duplicating effort, but didn't search beyond. Please let me know if this is wasted effort.
My intention is to create a faithful copy, and produce detail drawings of the wing templates and parts to assist a scratch builder. I would offer the digital versions at no cost to the Classic Pattern community.
I would like to use this thread to show progress, gather interest, and answer any questions that come up.

Did you ever finish the cad drawings for the deception?
Cheers,
