I am using JR 3421SA's in bigger birds for dual elevator's. Not needing to go gung ho with 61 powered SPA plane, and to keep the cost down, any opinion's on using the Hi-Tec 225's for dual elev. in the World Intruder appreciated. Using with JR921 2.4 rx and X9303. I mounted new JR MN48's back there, and stripped gears in one already with normal use. Glad it happened on the ground first. I realize the MN48 may not have been made for this application.

I have heard warm and fuzzy as well as not so warm and fuzzy about these servos. I bought some for a Tracer (50 size pattern) and built them into the wing of the Vertigo for the ailerons, one for each side. As you know, you cannot believe everything that you read on the internet at face value, so I am going to install them in the ailerons on the china trainer (expendable) and if I like them, I will keep them in the Vertigo (NOT expendable). If not, then I will install bigger servo mounts and install some ds821 servos that I bought. I'm going on vacation for a spell, then I will give them a whirl.
I like them because they are light and strong. And if you consider the weak servos that we used quite successfully in the old days, they should work well. We shall see.

Vince,
I know of a few people using these as aileron servo's and they report they are great. I believe they have nylon gears and while not the fastest servo out there, at 6V it does perform nicely. I think the JR Sport MN-48's are better suited to 20 size models. Good call on pulling them from the elevators on your Intruder.
While twice the price, Futaba's new coreless digital S9650's look quite nice too. I really like how CL servos leave the control surface mushy until you power them up and then they lock hard. Analog CL servos used to be the de facto standard on the classics in the 80's.
David.

David - Robert, thanks for the info. I used the Hi-Tec low profile aileron servos in one SPA plane for about 2 years, worked great. David, I was looking at the Futaba line, will look again. I never paid much attention to these mini-servo's until I followed Troy Newman's build on the Focus Sport, and I used the high end digital's as he recommended for the good-better-best install's.
The HS225's looked good enough, I just needed a little confidence builder here. I can always pull everything and do the normal pushrod's. This is Intruder # 3, setting it up a little different.

Looks like I am going to go with HiTec #5245's.

the hitec 225's are very popular servo for q500 racers and the likes, with good results, so two doubled up on your elevator should be fine, doxilia's suggestion to use the 9650 futaba sevos is even better in my opinion, the are used by glider and pylon guys for years and the heli guys love them for their 3d controls as well

Vince,
nice servos but I'd stay away from MG (steel) servos on classics especially on elevators and ailerons. They will develop slop in time. If HiTec is your choice, then go with their Karbonite gear servos - very nice - the best of both worlds.
MG are best for retracts and 1/4 scale and above. I'll take a good quality coreless analog servo any day over a low cost digital servo.
But, for $10 more a piece than the 5245's, the S9650's are hard to beat. The 9650's are a coreless digital servo and they sound excellent. I'll be using many of those I expect.
