RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
ORIGINAL: Jeff Worsham I hope these scanned true to size. The only trouble I had was getting the plan to feed straight into the scanner and not an an angle. jeff I have to straighten almost every plan I get scanned. I usually drag a guide done from the ruler to the centerline of the fuselage. Next I rotate the whole plan in 0.01 to 0.1 degree increments until I feel it's good. The command for that is image rotate. Note to do the fine increments you may need to change the plan from bitmap to greyscale. This can also be done if Photoshop. As far as the size, I scanned a flat ruler into photoshop and saved it as a file. Next I open up the ruler and the plan and copy the ruler to the plan to check for accuracy. You can increase or decrease the size using the "image size" command. |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Roguedog,
Thanks for the software tips, those are skills I don't have for sure. Worse yet, don't have the sofware either. Will Photoshop Elements do these things? The Epson scanner I've ordered comes with Elements and I was hoping that would be enough. Microsoft Picture editor is nearly worthless for editing. After converting the pdf's to jpg's, they're still way too big to post and Microsoft Picture Editor just croaks when I ask it to open the large jpg's. |

Yup, ramcfarland,
The Bobcat is essentially a 40-sized Tiger Tail. CAsniffer |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
This is a must have for me :) and flying one with an HP 40 Silver Star got me the name "fast richard" back in 76 from a now departed good friend who used to liven up things when he walked in to the hobby shop I once worked in

12-26-2008: Several images of a Derringer were added to the image-base. 4 images of a Sunray biplane, a very interesting sport/pattern plane from 1975 and should be SPA legal, although it isn't in the SPA list. RFJ says so. 2 Bridi Utter Kaos, 2 Sweetater's, 3 Bridi Super Kaos, 2 Panzer D20, 1 Nemesis, 1 MK Beetle (top of page B2), and 1 Flat Top Stormer were also added.

To re-size photos, there is a shareware program called "PIXresizer", very easy to use. I use it all the time to get photos into Avatar size. Link to free download is here:

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
The photo resizing tool I use is Fotosizer. It's probably similar in functionality as the one WEDJ posted. You can resize a single image or an entire directory of images. I often resize a hundred at a time. If the original filename is DSC1224 and you want to resize it to 800x600, the resized image's filename will be DSC1224_800x600. It won't overwrite the original file. You can key in any resolution you want.
It's freeware. http://www.fotosizer.com/ CAsniffer |

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Hi all.
I know it's been a while since I've updated the [link=http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/pattern1.htm]Classic Pattern Image-base[/link], but I haven't been shirking my duties. In fact, I received a CD from with 34 fantastic images. These pictures were submitted by David Phillips and are classics themselves. He sent a CD with 34 pictures scanned from snapshots along with descriptions for most of the images. It's great to see pictures from past pattern events and I'm sure people who were there will appreciate them. I felt these pictures deserved their own page for several reasons; 1. they are from one person. 2. If there is enough interest and enough pictures to warrant, I will start a series of pages that highlight a particular pattern event or meet. These pictures are over 30 years old and have color shifted. I made an effort to color-correct the images and render the planes' color schemes more accurately. I really just wanted to see if I could do it and they turned out pretty good. I extend my immense gratitude to David Phillips for these images...and he says he has more! Thanks again! Let me and David know what you think. If he is not an RCU member, I will forward him your comments. Click on the David Phillips Collection link on the Classic Pattern home page. Thanks See you in Perry! CAsniffer |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
What a great collection of shots! And to my surprise there was a shot of my first Deception in its red, white, and blue scheme (about midway down AMA 32631). You cleaned up the old shots rather nicely. I have some old pics, but I haven't had a lot of success getting them back to their true colors.

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Jeff,
I bet you were surprised to see your plane in this collection of pictures. If you have scans in good resolution, I can take a stab at trying to correct the color. CAsniffer |

RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
CAsniffer,
Your Image base is getting better each time I see it and all of your hard work in putting this masterpiece together as well as keeping it updated should not go unrecognized by EVERYONE who is a part of or has ever reviewed it....:D But I do have one minor complaint. Every time you add pictures of most of the planes to the image base, it just makes me want one of them even more and my wish list is long enough already....:):D Keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep checking in from time to time...:D |
RE: Classic Pattern Plane Image-base
Hi all,
When browsing RCUniverse's Vintage & Antique RC section, I found a link to a photo gallery and located a fairly large number of classic and antique pattern planes, some of which I did not have on my site. There were so many images, I had to add three pages to the web site because pages K, P and T were filled. New pages are K2, Q, and T2. The planes I added were the Aristocat, Astrohog, BarFli, 3 Bolero, Candy, Chief, Cobra, Compensator, Contender, Cutlass, Dragon Fli, Encore, 4 Eyeball, 2 Falcon56, 2 Interceptor I, 2 Interceptor V, 2 Joker, King Altair, Kwik Fli Mk I or II, 2 Kwik Fli II, 2 Kwik Fli III, 4 Orion, 2 Pegasus, 2 Phoenix I, Phoenix V, Pulsar Bipe, Pursuit, 3 Qualifier, Skylark Twin, Skylark Jr., 2 Sportmaster, Sr. Falcon, Sr. Falcon Low Wing, 2 Stinger, Styx, 3 Super Fli, Super Sicroly, Sweepette, Taurismo (low wing Tauri) 4 Taurus, 2 Tiger Tail, Torero, Tokyo Echo, 3 Viscount, Viscount Twin. A total of 74 images. [link=http://www.trentonrcflyers.com/pattern/pattern1.htm]Classic Pattern Image-base[/link] Thanks CAsniffer |
