The red on the fuselage is done. I just unmasked this at 1:30 am. Love that fast tacking paint!
Now I need to find a font I like for my lettering[:@] |
RE: Deception Build
WOW!!!
I like that a LOT! Brian |
RE: Deception Build
Thanks Brian.
I'm going to let it set untill next week before I start color sanding to really let the paint cure. We're heading out to the field to sneek in a few flights before the snow starts to fly. |

It is ready for clearcoat:D
I let the geek in me use a Star Trek font called"Final Frontier" I will clear it in the Spring. I made all the graphics but the manufactures. I could have scanned them and make water slide decals like the off and psi set (someone always asks how much air I use). The best part now is that my benchs are clear so I can start the Illusion. |

RE: Deception Build
I love it! Looks great, thanks for the pictures.

Oh MAN! That is cool!

RE: Deception Build
What is the finished out center wing chord, and tip chord measurements of the Deception?
Thanks |

Proparc,
if you are thinking the Deception has a wide wing, you'd be right! Root = 14.83" Tip = 9.76" ought to be what you are looking for. David BTW, sweet ride Ed! |
RE: Deception Build
I know where some cores and canopies are. :D

RE: Deception Build
Simply calculated without getting the proper MAC of the wing:
Crude MAC = 14.83 + 9.76 = 24.59"/2 = 12.295" Wing Area = MAC x Span = 12.295" x 63" = 774 sq in :D Naturally this includes the tips and I've overshot the MAC so 24 squares are lost to give 750 squares. David |

As I'll be building Exception/Deception wings in the not too distant future, I wanted to get some things sorted out with the design.
Here's the brain software calculation of the MAC. As noted in the attachement, Kimbro and/or Bridi likely rounded off the effective span to 30" per panel and used a rounded off MAC of 12.5". So that simply gives 2 x 30" x 12.5" = 750 sq in of wing area. David |
RE: Deception Build
Whats your opinion about a OS Max 65AX\APC 12x6 prop combo for the Deception. This should be significantly more powerful than the Webra Blackheads used back in the day.
As an aside: The Bootlegger, the Deception;Al Capone would have had a ball flying RC in the 70's!! |
RE: Deception Build
be a great set up.....

RE: Deception Build
PROPARC
I will be putting in a Webra Speed .61, the same that is in my H9 Phoenix 7. They are more powerful than the Webra Blackheads:D |
RE: Deception Build
I won my very first Novice class pattern contest with a Deception back in Sept, 1983. "Warmed" OS61 VF ABC with an OPS Pipe. Those old Bridi kits built heavy and needed lots of power. My buddy figured out how to get an additional 800-1,000 extra RPM out of the OS engines without compromising their easy handling characteristics. All it took was 10 minutes with a Dremel tool and a carbide bit. Man, would those suckers scream with an Rev Up 11 - 7 1/2 prop!

Not to hijaak the thread but do you have any detail's on exactly what your friend did to mod the VF. I have several.
Ialready modded one of my 61VF's with an OS PA-102 pump system. This is the same pump and carb used on the OS 61SF-P engines. I figured the larger throated 86 carb and matching pump should provide a boost and better top end. Theonly other mod that I was thinkingwas to raise the exhaust port timing for the tuned pipe. Is this the mod your friend did? |

Theonly other mod that I was thinkingwas to raise the exhaust port timing for the tuned pipe. Is this the mod your friend did? If I remember correctly, the lower edge of the outer part of the side ports were angled downward. The port opposite the exhaust port did not have this feature, causing a 90 degree turn in gas flow at this port. We simply ground the outer side of the sleeve at that port to match the other two, leaving a 0.010" to 0.020" lip on top so as NOT to change the port timing. Nothing fancy but it worked. BTW - I still have all my old pattern engines. OS 60 FSR, OS 61 FSR and VF, OS 61 LS rear exhaust with and without pump, ans one Bully 1.45 2-stroke from my 2 meter planes. Oh, a YS 61 AR that I never flew in a contest before going to 2 meter 120 size planes. Jim |

Sounds a bit like this sort of modification made to Rossi engines.
