Guy's I want to ask a question and I don't want anybody to get Heartburn over it !! As you know we are going to have a large number of pilots, what do you think about 6 lap heat races and 10 lap Mains ??? so we can get in as many heats as we can..
We also want to add a C main. which we will take the top 12 point guy's
1 to 4 A main, 5 to 8 B main and 9 to 12 C main ?? Let us know what Ya think.

Keep it at 10 laps. 4 more laps are only a few seconds more.
I signed up to race but my name has not made it to the list yet.

I would keep it at ten laps if we are running short on time you can cut back on some of the heat races. I think in Georgetown when the wind was up to 40 with gusts to 48 (Not joking) we cut it to 3 heat races and then ran the mains.

Sounds good to me !! I don't have a problem at all with it .. Just be ready when your heat is called !!!
T Town has a great PA system with a remote mike, so it won't be a problem about hearing your name when it's called..
I guess nobody had a problem with the 12 plaques ???

If you want to trim some time off, look into reducing the 3 minute window to just 1.5 or 2 mins.
Regulation 3 pole racing has a 60 second clock to crank, needle and get back in position for
where you stand during the race. I know, with the flying start, it is a little bit different but the 3 minutes
could easily be cut back.
A well organized 3 pole race will have a new heat taking off every 6 minutes. Some places
are even able to cut that down a bit.
I would not think that 6 laps would be a good idea. Just think, a fella drives several hours,
flies 5 rounds, and does not place in the mains. He thinks, I spent a gaggle of $$, drove
a long distance and flew 30 laps. Worth the time and $$ he spent? Just something to
think about.

Thanks Brad, I have been thinking and that was the reason for the post !! My thought is more heats the more you have a chance to over come a bad race !!! The heats are for points only, the more heats we fly the more points you can pick up !! It looks like we will have 40 or more pilots, and I would like to see every one get their fill of racing Aug 4th..
If you guy's want to fly 10 laps then it will be 10 laps...

You know I watched a race in Alabama not long ago that was up for dispute as who the winner was. It took three minutes for the covering and decals to catch up to the planes so they could tell who's was who's!

Ed,
A suggestion: Back in 2007, during the break between rounds, we lined up the heats for the next round. The airplanes, 4 across, sat there for the next round. With that many contestants, there is plenty of time for fueling and maintenance during the round. When one heat lands, the next moves up to the start positions. When the heat has moved up, it is the one minute to start engines. After that one minute, all pilots whose engines are running move to the pilot position and are verified and the heat is started.
Just a suggestion of what worked then.

Just to be clear about our starts. We allow a MAXIMUM of three minutes before the 30 second countdown starts. Typically we start the countdown clock in less than a minute.
Here is how it goes:
We ask if everyone is ready.
We start the 3 minute timer.
Everyone starts their engines, tweeks the needles and take off in an relaxed manner.
When each pilot is ready they tell their caller and he raises his hand.
When we see four hands up we start the 30 second clock.
Typical time from start of the three minute timer to race start is around 90 seconds. The MAXIMUM time would be 3:30. This rarely ever happens. Blown glow plugs and flooded engines are the problems most of the time.
As Ken said, we will have a ready line setup so the next set of planes, pilots and callers will be in place. I would like to have two sets of ready lines so that we do not have any delays. I'm thinking a Ready Line and a Staging line.. If we can keep the racing going smoothly we should be able to keep with the ten lap heats and five rounds at least.
We need to plan for crash cleanup (not that that would ever happen), pylon repair, and landing retrieval. All of these things delay the racing.

Another question for Ed or Dave; what do you use for wing tags for aircraft identification? The closer we get to race day the more Q’s I may have. My Boy Scout training ‘Be Prepaired”.

Wing tags will be supplied. We are using a stick on label that really sticks too well. We will also be supplying a clear "shelf paper" that is used first and the super sticky labels are applied to it. The whole thing can then be easily removed and/or relocated if needed.
The fuel that we will be using is Mach 7 15% nitro syn/castor blend by Morgan fuels.
