I don't see any reason this would be any less safe than any other prop hang, and the only person he's putting at risk is himself.

the airframe falls out of the hover to the left... it hits the camera man.... it falls out of the hover to right...it hits the people in the pits....
Every village has one..
He is theirs

The flight was conducted. No-one was harmed.
How can anyone claim that this is "not safe" ? The bloke has just proven that this can be done safely.
I'll concede that it might not be "safe" if I did it. Or you, perhaps. I think that's the real problem. We look at these videos and think, "Wow, I can imagine trying that and losing control of that thing." Then, we project this idea onto the more skilled pilot ... and decide that "it's not safe" for him to do it, either.
It wouldn't be "safe" for me to perform surgery; but that risk largely evaporates when the surgery is conducted by a medical team.
Given the appropriate skills, what is there to worry about?

The worry comes from the next guy that may not be as qualified trying to do the stunt and hurting himself or others.
''what is there to worry about?''

Then the inevitable conclusion is that no-one should try to do anything, for fear that someone is harmed. That is where we are headed, as Western societies, isn't it?

Comparing this to surgery is not a fair way to do it. The scalpel in a surgeons hand is controlled 100% by him. There are many other factors ,out of the pilots control, that can effect the out come. I have done stupid things at the sticks myself. Hopefully we learn and don't repeat them.

What most people here are referring to is the monkey see monkey do that can come from a video of this. The pilots MAJOR F up was putting down the radio. Had he done what he did while still having one hand on the radio, then it would not be so big of an issue, but putting the radio down on the ground was to me a Major dumbass move. Anything that upset the balance of the plane would have resulted in someone getting injured. With one hand on the stick that risk goes way down.
Awesome maneuver, stupid way of doing it.

Show me some precautions, show me some demonstrated skill, don't do it around a lot of people, then when fingers and body parts are flying, remember I told you so. Just because you can, is not always a reason to do it.

As far as surgery, horrible mistakes happen all the time, and they are highly trained with state of the art equipment, but they are human and equipment fails.

RE: This is crazy dangerous!
OK, we've moved from "safe" and "unsafe" to a recognition that there are levels of risk ... always and in every action that we take. Both "safe" and "unsafe" are finite terms which never exist in reality.
Now, who decides that the levels of risk associated with this flying are unacceptable? Does he make that decision, or do you?
If it's to be you who makes the decision, what authority do you claim for forcing him to stop his activity?

RE: This is crazy dangerous!
By some of the logic presented here, I shouldn't go to work! [X(] My home field is MUCH more dangerous than anything shown in the vid. Some of the guys are so bad, we get behind our cars...
I've been at ETOC in Toledo when a plane or two have ventured over the crowd by mistake. They even practice over our heads in the bleachers. Thankfully, no girly-men shut down the proceedings. Yes, they're foamys, but they could still cut you up.
C'mon, the guy was showin his madd skillz, quit hatin'. [8D]

America: home of the free and the brave...and stupid, and the namby pamby naysayers. LOL we see this kind of crazy behaviour all over YouTube and the like: crazy kids on sportbikes doing wheelies and stoppies in traffic, freestyle motocross or sleds with people around, etc. It can always be dangerous to both the performer and the crowd, but it's why we like to watch these things: the element of danger and the skill involved!

Naah. If it were a full sized plane, then maybe!
This is dangerous. Actually, it looks like a high speed stall followed by wrong control inputs.

Now, THIS is really DANGEROUS !!!
