RC Report Website?

My saved link, and the Google links that my search brought up, do not take me to RC Report Magazine's website. Anybody have a link?

Thanks,
Dave Olson

I just looked at it and it is indeed down. The server is there, but the website isn't responding on that server. Hopefully it's just temporary and they'll get it worked out and back up soon.

This was posted on an email list from one of the writers for RC Report.

"I just got word from RC REPORT Owner and editor Gordon Banks that the March 2009 issue of RC REPORT will be its final issue. Due to the huge amount of advertiser cut-backs, they just couldn’t continue.
I have enjoyed writing for them, and I am sure that many of you will hate to hear about their demise. RC MODELER, and now RC REPORT"

I just started a subscription to RC Report. Funny, nothing was said about shutting down..I think an e-mail is in order.

Maybe Gordon can work out a deal with RCU to publish it on line. Otherwise it leave a very big hole in the modeling community.

Why do they need RCU? Why don't they just do it themselves?

This sentence should explain why they do not just do it themselves.

Due to the huge amount of advertiser cut-backs, they just couldn’t continue.
Whether printed, or online, it costs money to produce a magazine.

Is their a name attached to this post? I’d like to get official word from somebody like Dick Pettit before I start crying.

Maybe Gordon can get a federal bailout?

Wow, that would be devastating. It's my fav mag for sure!

It came from the AMA District V VP, Tony Stillman who has a column in the magazine. I have seen communication from Gordon since then that confirms it.

I e-mailed Gordon and he confirmed March 2009 is the last issue.

Not likely. Half the stuff that's printed in RC Report would get a user banned/edited/censored on RCU for telling it like it is. Rc Report is like the anti-RCU.

Most of the other mags are just advertising catalogs. Nothing more. I guess companies feel they get their moneys worth out of them.....

OK, y'all can start crying now

It's official. It wasn't supposed to be made public for a while but Gordon passed the word to one of the advertisers who promptly set out to tell everyone she could think of.

Personally, I already had conversations with several other media representatives, including RCU, and I'm open to any suggestions.

There are a few that i WILL NOT write for, but RCU is not one of them.

You know who I'm talking about.

Thanks for all th enice comments over the years and if I can find another place to do some writing, you'll be seeing even more ugly shirts!

Merry Christmas, y'all.

This is not good news. [:'(]

Sad to see the magazine go. I had multiple years left on my subscription, I don't know how to fill the upcoming void.[:o]

Dick Pettit,

Thanks for commenting. I'll read your columns wherever they are (but about those shirts... seriously... )

I will miss Gordon's column and reviews.

I too regret the future passing of RC Report. I had hoped that Gordon could keep it going. Was a price increase, for some reason, not a solution?

I'd gladly pay more for a subscription to RCR. Heck, I would pay retail, $60 a year it is that good of a magazine!

It is truely said that the only rc magazine I subscribe to is calling it quits. Will ther be a refund on subcription or will that disapear like rcm did?

pettit 12-22-2008 02:44 PM

RE: RC Report Website?

To answer a lot of questions, Gordon says that he will refund any subscription amount over $10.00 if you send him a SASE.

That's only fair, isn't it?

I'm going to let mine (1005) ride in appreciation for the 20 years I enjoyed the magazine. A farewell gift.

Thats two this year :(

Most of you probably wouldn't know it, but Model Helicopter Technique, the RCR of the helicopter world witth great writers and honest reviews folded earlier this year.

Best of luck to Gordon, Mina, and Heather.

Edwin 12-22-2008 03:58 PM

RE: RC Report Website?

I would pay for a consumer guide type format if RC Report went that route. Honest reviews are worth that in my opinion. There are NO other reviews that you can take as honest, anywhere. Just my opinion. The articles were better and what ads there were came from companies I would and did buy from.

It costs a lot less to publish on line. There is no paper, printing or postage costs.
I think Gordon just got tired of the hassle

Darn, now I'm going to have to go Flying on Sunday mornings .

I've been with RCR almost since it started and have met a lot of the writters and supplied some things for them to write about. I'm really going to be lost without them as I don't read any of the other junk out there. Maybe Model Aviation can fill a small portion of the void.
RIP ~~~ ENJOY !!! RED

A sad,sad day indeed.I always looked forward to the writers reports, coloms, editorial storied, little insert jokes and tons of great information. It was honest in print and great entertainment.I will truly miss the staff and the great effort that Gordon and the crew put into RC REPORT. As a show of support,I will not be requesting a refund and I hope that when the economic environment improves, that RC REPORT will raise again.
Thank you Gordon for putting forth a great magazine with great ethics.Hope to see you again.Pizza is always on the table in my shop should you drop by my neck of the woods.
Cheers,

Gordon, Gordon, What are you doin to us? Charge us double if need be but we need your magazine! What's the world coming to? Dang it! Somebody has to do something please. This is the best mag available anywhere. I never did understand how they could keep their prices that low for such a fine literary piece of material. GEEEEEEZZZZZZZ What are we gonna do? Talk about a spoiled Christmas! Well Godon, I wish you and your team the best and you will be missed! Bill White

RE: RC Report Website?

This is for Dick Pettit. I was trying to contact RC Reports about an August 2008 issue article, 'Giant Scale' by Phil Sibille but the website being shut down made that impossible. I saw a photo that intrigued me tremendously in the article about the Cessna 182 model on page 43. Photo 6 shows the model sitting on a very smooth, surfaced runway and upon closer inspection I saw a slight reflection of the model on the surface. Looking closer I saw what appeared to be some 'fasteners' securing the 'runway' to the ground and stretching it out smooth in the process. My question, if you know the answer, is what is that surface made of? It looks to be some kind of sheet film but very large and seamless. If you can't find out perhaps you could provide me with a contact address so I could follow it up.

Many thanks,

Fred Jungclaus
