Cox Models has a brand new website at www.coxmodels.com
We have been scouring the warehouse and we have found some product that we didn't even know we had. We'll get it up on the website as soon as we can. Watch the website for product availability.
By the way, the Sure Start .049 engine is on sale for only $6.99.

Hello Dave,
Glad Cox is still alive and well. I still own and fly my Cox engines often.
I do have a question about trying to identify an old Cox car we had back in the late 60's- early 70's. It looks like the Chaparal, but not as detailed . It was orange and was radio controlled but I can't for the life of me, find any information on it. Any light you might shed on this one would be appreciated. Attached is a Photo. Hope this works.
Thanks,

That looks like an old Jerobee car, as far as I know it was the first 1/2A r/c car commercially available. I think they came out in about 1972 or therabouts. They offered two versions, a two channel with steering and throttle and a lower cost single channel that linked steering and throttle so it slowed down when you turned the wheels.
The body is a McLaren.

The body shell looks like a badly done McLaren M8A Can Am car from the 1968 season. I don't think that is a Cox product since they had a sponsorship and product tie-in with Chapparal Cars and AAR Eagle and did much more accurate work on tether cars of racers built by those teams..

From what I understand, the company has been sold and the engines are currently not available. My guess is that they will be back when the new company takes over. I THINK it is a Chinese company.
You might try your LHS and some online stores like Lone Star.
During the last year or so, Cox engines were sold mostly from online.

Both LHSs in my area have Cox 049s in stock.

The Sure Start is a heck of a deal @ $6.99...a replacement glow plug is $8.99! BTW, I think they only have the standard glow plug now, not the high compression with squish band that was used in the TD.
If you like Cox engines and your dealer has some, I would suggest buying them up. They may be old stock and not replaceable.
Apparently, their site dropped engines as parts were sold out. The BW, then .010 and Texaco, and finally the PeeWee and TD .049 and .09. There were various combinations toward the last, such as BW with plastic backplate, BW with BabeBee type plastic backplate and Texaco type tank. Texaco with plastic tank. Dropped Texaco and BW to replace it with the new Babe Bee.
If the rumors are correct and the company has been sold, perhaps they will make a comeback...or perhaps they are where they want to be. They offer both a tanked and a tankless engine that will fly most currently available simple 1/2A planes.
Although I like the TeeDee series, they have been outclassed by more modern designs that have a muffler and do not need the ball-socket reset.
These are mostly observations and may not be entirely accurate.

George ,I hope your right, about the purchaser, being a Chinese company .The First Company that Comes to my mind is SUPERTigre. Are there others over there,I don`t know. They are reasonably priced ,with all their engines,They don`t currently have, any engines in the 1/2A`ish catagory, maybe they`ll improve, on a real old(cox) technology.Be nice if they did a Norvel Copy too..Also, on all their engines, they offer a 3 year Warranty,Just Like Norvel.Hmm,Norvels Moving too, right?Could it be to China also. The other Great thing, if SuperT.did do the Take over,it won`t take long ,to see some products hit the Shelves. They`re a Strong ,Operating Company.Imagine Cox engines with a Wrist pin,and Rev-lite technology??Starting to think ,that this Delay in getting Norvel parts,& engines, and the total Liquidation of all Cox Glow items, has a connection..Time will Tell..Dave

Yeah Dave, or maybe AP bought em to limit competition on that cute little wasp.

AFAIK, Norvel was moving their factory to a new site (still in Russia), then would be back into production.
I THINK the engine producers in China use the same machines to produce several brands of engines. My guess is that they run a bunch of X-brand, then tool up for Y-brand and run a batch of them. This is not based on fact, just a guess.
I think not all Chinese engines are the same. If I understand correctly, some are made in Taiwan and some are made in mainland China. I know TT is from Taiwan, not sure about others.
My guess is that the Cox engines would be produced exactly as they were. If they were going to make design changes, why bother? I do not have problems with the ball-socket. Usually once it is reset it stays that way for a long time. But then, I don't run them that hard.

Edit: Oh yeah...Bee, Wasp, Hornet, etc. !!
