Hello everyone, this is a question for those familiar with Floyd Bennett field in Brooklyn. Last week my brother an i went on the field with a control line model. We found a perfect spot [link=http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=floyd+bennett+field&ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=4 0.593262,-73.885846&spn=0.005222,0.010321&t=k&om=1](google maps)[/link] seem to be made for C/L. However we were approached by someone in a uniform (looked like a boyscout to me) definitely not a park ranger, who told us that C/L is not allowed on FBF only R/C models... We are aware of the R/C club on FBF and after finishing our R/C model will become members, but for now we would like to have some fun with a couple of C/L models we have. So the question is if it's true that C/L is not allowed on the field? and if so does anybody know where in Brooklyn C/L is allowed.
Thank you.
P.S. we have AMA.

You might call Parks&Recreation and ask them. There is usually a city recreation dept in every large city who would know the answer to a question like that. And they'd be much more apt to know the details and possible rules. And are usually more than happy to help special interest groups use the special interest areas they've set aside and are maintaining for that use.

Back in the 1950's there was a site at the 1939 World's Fairground parking lot, (Roosevelt Ave, Queens?) that we used quite a bit.
Also, there used to be a site on the Interboro, across from midtown Manhattan, that was used a lot, later. I'd left by then...
Where I flew most was just south of Fort Hamilton VA Hospital, about 108th St, Bay Ridge. The Verrazano Bridge was just north of there. That was a sea wall space off the Belt Parkway about 200' wide between Ft Hamilton and Gravesend Bay. It had a parking area, too, tho we went mostly by bus and foot. Actually, the Verrazano Bridge was built after I joined the US Army...
Another place was Marine Park, north of Avenue U, where there wre several meadows and a few parking lots nicely suitable... Most likely long gone.
Getting old, I guess...
Back then we could use just about any paved ballfield, until someone complained. Then, on to the next one for a while. Instead of calling the cops, anybody bothered by our noise (no mufflers) woud just holler out his/her window and we'd move on...
First control-line I ever saw was either at the wreckage of old Luna Park, Coney Island, or at an armory show in uptown or the Bronx, in about 1948.

Not from the area, but these guys would know if anyone does.

If the guy in the uniform even knew the differences between RC and control line, he was some RC'er. We get them out here all the time, they think they own the world.
Him "Can't fly CL here in the state park, only RC. Our club controls all models in the park" (wrong, they fly FF and rockets there)
Me "Let me get the ranger, and we can ask him" (I knew what the ranger would say)
Him "Ok you can fly, just stay out of my way I have spent thousands on that airplane, what frequency are you on?" (what a jerk))
