Like most clubs, we have a mix of all types of planes that fly at our field. We have always joked about the possibility of a "larger" gas plane meeting a "smaller" trainer, and what exactly would happen, but even I was amazed at the amount of confetti that resulted when it really happened! I didn't see the collision (and, unfortunately, I was so stunned at watching the amount of debris come out of the sky afterwards that I didn't think of taking a picture), but here is the aftermath...
The Extra was able to make a safe landing, despite the gear being messed-up. Damage to this plane was fairly minimal (although I believe the firewall was broken). The Alpha (at least, the biggest part of the Alpha) landed in some tall grass. The damage that you see is completely the result of the collision there were no other pieces near where we found it!

OK, I admit it, I did laugh when I saw that first picture of the superstub trainer... There is NO WAY I would ever rebuild it, It would have to go in a showcase or on a SMALL plaque ...poor guy....

Did not want to make the news on RC Universe this way but am glad that most of the comments are ment in good spirit. I was very fortunate with my Extra in that the engine mount was cracked in half. If I had not killed it immediately it probably would have ended up the same as the trainer. (Unflyable due to a lack of an engine) So be it a lesson for all you gasers out there - kill the engine right away and accept the dead stick results as you will be pobably better off. The plane looks less damaged that it actually was.
And no - as Erick said we have generouse and classy guys in our club and he was given a older trianer that will fly for a long time by Robert who posted our pictures. Thanks Robert for your help. So with the help of friends both planes will be flying in a little over a day.
This is the second time in 30 years of flying that I have had a mid-air - So I will probably be safe for the rest of my life

Wowonly TWO mid-airs in thirty years!! When I was still on the buddie box nine years ago, I thought I came close to another plane. My instructor told me not to worry, mid-airs just never happen. He said he'd been flying for 20 years and never had one. Well almost nine years later, I've had ELEVEN !!! Of course two were pylon racing and one was rc combat, so I'd say those really don't count. But the other eight were plane and simple MID-AIRS ! Here's pics of a couple. Just goes with the hobby, I guess. Like some of us say"If ya can't stand to loose oneDon't put it in the air" The Chipmunk had a mid-air with a heli. Sounded like 8 or 10 kids hitting a Pinata all at once, and the heli flew back and landedNO damage. Such is life.

If you are interested, I can also give you a Great Planes Big Stick 60.
It's a kit with balsa parts, plans and all accessories. I already put the wing together, which is the hard part. The fuse is essentially a box, so not very complex and can be done in one evening. Very easy kit to put together and flies quite well.
Would make a very nice second plane after Rob's trainer. You can even check if here's enough guilt feelings around Dave, that he might feel compeled to finish the thing for you. He builds very well and fast...

Thanks Yarom for your input. I do build well. I now have a lot of building to do after your house cleaning! So - yes I will help Eric if he needs it. [sm=49_49.gif]
