I am fairly new to e-flight and am making my first foray into brushless and lipos.
I have bought on Ebay a Walkera WK-WST-40A controller which the vendor assured me is suitablefor lipos. However the instructions are fairly sparse and in Chinglish and don't say how you set the cut-off to suit my 3s 11.1 volt battery.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
David

Not the exact same controler but try this Also an e-bay esc
TOWERPRO CO.LTD
BMC SERIES BRUSHLESS MOTOR CONTROLLER
SETUP MENU (only for 40A, 60A, 100A, 140A)
Type Current Fe t BEC Timing mode PWM LIPO NIHM
40-N 40A/60A 18 5V/4A 3/8/15/30 8/16/32K 2to5 6/18

BEC work under 3LIPO(10cell NIMh/NiCd)
5LIPO or 18 cells NIMh/NiCd MAX with BEC disabled
First, connect the motor and receiver to the speed controller
Remove battery power from the speed controller.
Turn on the transmitter.
Move throttle stick on full power position, (UP Position)
Reconnect battery power to the speed controller
After 3sec you can hear (all sound is 3times)
â®â€” CELL Type AND Number
â®â€” — BRAKE
â®â€” — — TIMING MODE
â®â€” — — — PWM
ON you need programming menu, move the throttle stick to the middle position

IF the option is you need, then move the throttle stick to UP position.
The long BEEP is save the option. and the system will go to the programming menu.
You can setup other options.
When all you need option is setup OK, push the throttle stick to down position, after 1sec the system were save all option, then you can start the motor now!!
Hope this helps good luck

Thanks very much. I think I can translate the 'Chinglish' so I am going to try this.
I am afraid I am a bit of a novice so what timing do you recommend I try? Also I assume that PWR is equivalent to the clock speed of a PC - should I try the fastest?
Thanks again

Thanks for the Chinglish info.
I am not a linguist, and listening to motor on setup, I can not figure out what to do when. Plenty of bleeps and tweets.
Did you succeed?
Is so could you may be tell in ENGLISH what I should do? May be by just a bit editing the Chinglish??
Thanks!
I fly a Great Planes Spectra glider, driven by a tiny BM24-8 21 outrunner. Had ALIGN RCE-BL25G ESC, but it blew one phase.
And my old WK-WST-40A 30A 4-14NC ESC was not programmed to brake.
Cheers from Sunny Queensland,

The wire colors between the motor and ESC mean nothing. Connect them in any order. If the motor spins in the wrong direction, swap any two of the wires.

I have been having the same issues with a Mag 8 esc that i have no instructions for. I have been searching the net and think i have finally found what we need. I am yet to try but it seems to match what i have been hearing from the esc. See if you have any luck with it.
Brushless Motor speed controllerManual
W12A/ W25A/W30A
Operation Limit:
12A: max current 15A, continuous current 12A for 10 minutes
25A: max current 30A, continuous current 25A for 10 minutes
30A: max current 35A, continuous current 30A for 10 minutes
Voltage Range: 6V-12V
Number of Batteries: 4-12NiMH, 2-3LiPo
BEC Output: 5V1.5A.2LiPo\4-5mini servo, 3Lipo\3-4mini servo
Protective Functions:
â—† Automatically select 2-3LiPo,protective voltages are 6V/9V respectively;
â—† Automatically select NiMH, the protective voltage for each battery is 0.8V.
◆ Safe start –will not start if the throttle stick is not in the right position;
â—† Temperature protection, shutdown if the surface temperature reaches 110â„
â—† lost of control protection, shutdown after I second without signal.
Performance:
â—† motor limit:
↠2-pole adversion as high as 300000rpm
↠12-pole adversion 50000rpm
↠14-pole adversion 42000rpm
â—† For 8KHzpWM control ,
â—† Position of the full, throttle will be adjust automatically
â—† BEC and MCU use separate power supply for table operation.
Setting Method:
1. Open the transmitter, switch throttle stick to the full power position (for FUTABA series
transmitter, the throttle stick shall be switched to REV).
2. Connect the receiver and motor.
3. Connect the power to the speed controller.
4. If the transmitter is in normal condition, it will have the following sound: (if there are no more
sounds after a long low sound at the end of this sound, check the reverse setting of the
transmitter throttle channel).
↠B: indicates LIPO automatic protection
↠BB BB: indicates NiMH/NiCD automatic protection
↠BBB BBB: indicates brake selection
5. If there is setting you want in the process of sound cycle, switch the throttle
stick, to the lowest position at the first time interval. (For example, select
LIPO automatic protection: switch the throttle stick to the lowest position when
hearing one B sound)
6. If there is another additional setting, quickly switch the gun to the highest position to make a
selection.
7. If you have finished the setting you require, wait 2 seconds and the motor will send a
confirmation sound for battery protection. It is usable after confirming the position of throttle
stick.
8. LIPO automatic protection has only 2 voltage protection points, i.e 6V and 9V. There is no
need to use a full capacity battery.
9. NiMH automatic protection is calculated according to the real number of batteries. Sets
0.8V for each battery. In order to ensure accurate judgment of the battery voltage, please
charge the battery to full capacity. If the battery is not at full capacity. The speed controller
will estimate the protection voltage according to 53% of the full capacity.
10. the brake is seeing as default set
11. Reset the brake operation to release the brake function. .
12. Factory parameter reset function: because this series of electronic governor has an
overheating and false operation protective function, if you find that the speed controller is
accelerating or changing is direction, or the throttle is different from the original condition,
you can reset the factory parameters to obtain the highest performance.
When starting the machine there is a long B sound. It indicates that the electronic governor is
in LIPO protection mode. The BBB sound indicates that it is in NiMH/NiCD automatic
protection mode.

Hi guys, I am new to forums and just getting back into rc after 40 years off. Today I received the RC Smart WK-WST-40A and although I haven't fired it up yet, it looks EXACTLY identical to the Tower Pro Mag 8, 30A ESC (apart from the label of course). Identical size and shape, leads in same places and colours, same "bumps" in heat shrink. Cheers from Sydney Australia

I purchased the recommended: “Heli-Max Speed Controller 40A (Stock # HMXM3004) for my MC450 MS Heli. After going through all the instillations for the gyros, receiver, and radio settings, I found that the throttle was reversed.
I tried to go into the programming mode of the radio and “Reverse” that channel, but I still got the same results.
I’m using the Futaba T6EXHP radio (6 ch), along with the Futaba R156F receiver. All of the other channels are working as expected, but for some reason I can’t get the speed control to reverse.
Can any one help me with this problem.

When you say your throttle is reversed do you mean the direction of rotation or the stick itself. If it is the motor running in reverse swap any of the 2 wires going to the motor. If it is the stick you should be able to just reverse the stick in your handset. I have been using brushless gear for a while and havn't had any problems with the stick as it normally works fine with the hand set not reversed but i have had most motors run in reverse as the coloured wires never match up.
I hope this is some help.
