Default Fire box for Lipo's

Just getting into Lipo's.

I have seen the horror pictures and stories about these things exploding and burning up.

My thought was to use a US military ammo box for a fire box.

The question I have is, since the ammo box is air tight a exploding battery will cause pressure to build up, should I drill some small holes to allow the pressure to escape?

That was my thoughts too.

I figure about 12, 1/8" holes around the top parameter should do it.

Thanks

My pal uses a ammo box and only had one problem...he shut the lid on the lead causing what he was trying to prevent.

Make sure the is ample room for the charging lead.

I was going to put a charging plug on the side of the box. This was I can plug the charger directly into the box and not worry about the clearance for the wires.

Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. I gotta say though...all the videos out there of these things burning are intentional. I have been charging lipo's since thery came into view in this hobby with no issues at all. I never charge over 1c and never have fires. Must have around 100 lipo's and 100 more over time and gotta say they are safe as long as you play by the rules.

Trust me, I intend to follow the rules.

I know allot of guys using the Lipo's on airplanes and they have not had a problem either, but with my luck (BAD LUCK, NO LUCK) I don't want to take any chances.

Thanks for the response.

I got that luck too! We shall never meet! haha Hope it all works out good for you and trouble free forever. Just always double check your cell counts if applicable and triple check your amp output....you may never see a lipo fire first hand this way.

Fly fast, charge slow,

Check out Lipo Sack. Inexpensive and easy to carry and transport, yet totally safe for charging LiPo packs.

I charge my li-po's while watching TV at night. That way I can keep an eye on them.
I place them on a ceramic bowl in case they overheat while charging and start smoking this has never happened.
Have been using them for over 3 years, charging them at 1C without any incident.
I currently have 12 packs and I use two li-po chargers four of the batteries are 4S, so had to buy a new charger for them.
I fly almost every day and use most of the batteries each time.
