I was able to sneak a flight in with the Trex 450 and 500 today... Its harder for me in the clouds to orientate than it is when the sun is all out with blue skies. I tried a loop in the 500 today, but there's some settings to go through I see, and I'am gonna drop my pinion size from a 16t down to a 15t, and then next time pick up some more speed before attempting the loop... I'll download the video later, but just casual flying with that thing is just relaxing, and it tracks very well and has that lazy slow motion flying effect thingy going on... Just so much more stable than the 450, but I still love my 450 and flew it right afterwards and I love the tight snaps that the 450 could do if ya let it...

Cheers,

~ Jeff

You always can try adding some flybar weights like the Trex 450 SA has, on the Helimax Axe 400 and it might help ya with stability for those first few flights. Remember that generally the 315mm blades will be less stable than say the normal 325mm's that seem to be the most common... They do have 335mm blades that would really boost your stability, but wouldn't be so great for any 3-D which you would be fine since your just going to be getting your feet wet so to speak... On the 335mm blades you would want to just make sure your not bogging the motor down any with whatever settings you have as far as your curves are concerned. It may boost your temps up a few degrees with your electrical components running the bigger blades.

Can't wait for a video sometime when time and weather permits ! Just take your time and relax when your out ready to take some flights with the heli's... You'll amaze yourself I know...

Here's the power supply's I use. One is a dual output 20amp, and the other is a smaller 2.5a power supply...

I had the chance yesterday to take out the Trex 450 and 500 for a quick flight before dark.... Just some casual flying making sure I don't lose what I have gained and keeping the rust from settling in from Wintertime.

I'd watch it in high quality :

Jeff...LOL....it's SO cold here, I wouldn't DARE put a helicopter in the air, any plastic in the head would fail just from torque. On the 14th of Jan at 2:00am, we hit -11degF, this morning at 7:00am it was -9degF, a high forecasted of 8degF. I found that flying these helicopters in less than 22degF causes problems. If you CRASH even at 22degF, a lot of stuff shatters...frame, ball links, canopy, whatever.

The 315mm blades, they seem to be the best for the 450 providing good head speed and stability. The 325's just flex too much and the blade tracking is so sensitive, the amount of pitch/head speed changes tracking.....I'm NOT impressed.

MAN....These are mid FEB temps we're seeing right now, I hate it. Supposed to get a warmup by next week though. If it were 30degF....I'd be out in shorts and a "Tee" shirt flying my helicopter.

Yeah you guys over there have that "ARCTIC EXPRESS" paying ya all a visit ! I think the coldest I've ever flown it was probably about 30 degrees... Any colder and my left thumb has issues and I can't feel what's going on with it, and I'am afraid of messing up on the the sticks then... I don't know how ya guys do that, flying in those brisk temps... Yeah probably smart ya don't fly in those temps you were just saying your getting right now....BURRRR.....!

You know its cold when ya have to De-Ice your RC plane's before and after a flight...........

Cool yer liking the 315's... I'll have to switch to my SAB CF 325's here soon to see if I can tell a difference in doing different moves.

You'll see more snap with the 315's as well as better stability, I like 'em.

Nice flying , Jeff! You sure gave those birds a run for their money with the 500! LMAO! You are certainly progressing well and just by watching all your videos I can tell your confidence is increasing too! Both heli's looked great. Sure makes me jealous watching you fly! I'm in the same boat as Vic, Brrrrrrrrr. It's colder here then I can remember in a long time. Global warming! Ha! LOL!

Rick- have you tried the Turnigy charger yet? How do you like it?

BID by my Butler ANNOUNCER " you have MAIL Sir " I came to read. GREAT STUFF GUYS...!!!

Y'all came back in a big RUSH......I don't feel so lonely anymore. Looking t'wards Saturday and the BIG HELI FEST. They prognosticate 65F winds 5 to 10 hope to find at least ONE GURU to help me out.
The CAMCORDER is still in the repair shop. they still owe me the CO$ T SPARE PARTS ????? IT ONLY NEEDS A HEAD CLEANING....

JEFF what CAN I say ? You ENCOURAGE me with your most favorable commentaries, BUT you are the one who can really really fly. Soon you will be GONE, like
our own LOOKY J ..... say, it doesn't "look" like it's cold in that park
in the SIM the AXE 400 is really HARD to fly......the input is extreme, so sensitive I can hardly control it......it just flies away and I can't catch it. getting discouraged.
I was on the G 4.5 simulator, flying a WW 1 ALBATROS biplane in a steady 31 mph wind..... this sim is pretty close, but don't get the biplane sideways to the wind.....OVER and OUT in many pieces. look at the picture......the shaking by the wind doesn't show but the flying is made tuff

Mr. JIM W : the turnigy still sits here, in front of me......Had a bad day today, left minus my wallet in the pocket, had to drive back for 1 hour lunch time, yuch, day lost. still I printed out the MANUAL
but it is a bit shall we say, hard to follow.....ChineNGLISH if you know what I am saying. I also sent off for the wall charger. Otherwise I need to charge up the 12V battery.
Maybe tomorrow. Wish It were possible to send (E MAIL ? ) the weather. went outside on coffee break......65F and CALM .....great flying time, no heli......[>:]

E-mail that weather quick, Rick!

Our school has already posted a 2 hr delay for tomorrow morning due the extreme temperatures. I kind of think it's a bit much but I bet they have a hard time getting those buses running in the cold air!

Hey Vic, how are you liking this -5 degree temp here? It's bad when you breathe through your nose and feel it icing up[:'(]
I was called into the Construction Management trailer this morning and shown a note to complete some work outside. I read it over and it said clearly, " As soon as possible." I promptly said, " Well... there's my out. Monday when it's warmer will be as soon as we can possibly get to it." The manager laughed and agreed to it. I pray that the forecast is right and and it warms up to the 20's.

Blessings to all and have a great weekend!

LMAO....yup, he left you an out. By this time next week, we should be pushing balmy 30's...jeebus, I'll be out in shorts and a T-shirt flying my heli.

You and Dave will have an E-Mail comming soon here, it's been a LONG day. I just got back from Detroit at 9:30pm this evening. Spent all day at an occupational "omega's" office and a cancer institute building getting a CT done, I'm whooped, ALL DAY...NO COFFEE.

Temp is -10 degrees here at 7:30 AM. Sounds like a good time to do one of those "polar bear" swims! I have always wanted to try it!

Outside work is a bad thing these days Jay, glad you were able to push it off.

Vic- I hope all is well for you. Get some coffee and those "shakes" should go away! LMAO
I NEED my morning coffee or I get a headache that won't go away!

Only 35 degrees here at 5:15 A.M..... That would seem like a heat wave compared to ya guys getting hit by that Arctic Express...LMAO... I love going out from the house temps and then letting my 450 adjust and then seeing the belt is looser, and the mains in the blade grips are even looser from the soft Microheli CNC shrinking up a tad from the cold... Its a amazing the diff on the belt on the temp changes. Drives me nuts.... The 500's Torque Tube sure has been nice lately for that...

Oh.... here's the new 450 from Align with the Torque Tube... Another Jason Krause design :

http://www.rcheliresource.com/breaki...ro-from-align/

Its pretty cool.... First chance I can get to throw on a TT kit on my 450, I'am on it ! Its REALLY amazing how free everything spins... A quick flick of the 500's blades, and she'll spin around a good 10 times or so... Maybe next time I'll flick em' on the next video, so you can see... I was going to do it on the last one but forgot... I think it has a good part in why my components run so cool on the 500, but can't say for sure as I've not ran the belt on it before... I've scuffed my rear tail blades in the dirt a few times and the TT is stronger than I had thought. I even had to land in tall grass one time at a friends house and the tail and crown gears held up fine as I was hovering above the tall stuff about a foot and hit throttle hold and watching the tail blades do there weed-eatin' duty...

Jeff, as my official wingman, could you try to get the mcx mods page set as a sticky? I can't do it myself since I am the "author".

Meanwhile, my other flying is going quite nicely. The MCX is evolving, I now have 2 charge adapters so that I can charge from my regular lipo chargers

Rick Did you go out flying yesterday? I think I remembered you saying you were taking all the helis, including your new Axe to the guru? Did you make it out?

Jim....looks like 'yer gonna get hit today. It pushed through here yesterday, only about 5-6"....not horrible. I'm gonna wait to plow till I see a couple degrees higher in temp (20degF?). The wind is up to 10-15mph, makes it worse than it is.

HI Y'ALL out there in FREEZER LAND ...
This is ole Rick. Just returned from a 300m trip up to Dallas. YES < JIM > I did go to the field to TEST the TREX VIC fixed for me AND "BIG EVENT" the AXE 400.!!!!!!!!
Only Me and My Friend went to MIKE"S Hobby SHop there in DALLAS, where they offer an INDOOR HELIPORT, frequented by all the Heli Experts in the area. AND I HAD A BALL !
Two days of FULL SUNSHINE, 50F wind at 5 to 10mph..... Indoors, everything you could want to see. Two Experts took over helping me. After setting up and checking everything
they proclaimed : that the TREX that Crash fixed is the ;;;""""" BEST FLYING TREX """"" ;;; they have used in a long time INCLUDING the Better Version: the SE which includes
a CF frame and METAL PARTS..... it hovered, it spun, it pirouetted everything but no inverted....I preferred to KNOW that it is good enough for me to practice my baby-steps.
Then : THE AXE 400.....out of the box, Xcept for a tiny run I gave it to see if it lights up and runs. Looked OK only the throttle startled me a wee bit.
When they were DONE with the flying, a bunch gathered because they KNEW it was out of the box and the remarks were that it went PERFECT, and right out of the box.
Then I HOVERED IT also, and it feel really really comfortable.
Then one of the Xpert Helpers brought his own TREX inside to fly......Only this T-REX is a HUGHES 500 SCALER with Nav and position lights. He claims this fuse is VERY EASY to install
and the TREX handles the flying with no problems. It was a POEM just to watch this flying, so of course I HAD TO GET ONE FOR MYSELF .. ! so : I DID, and the pics show it. One can
clearly see the quality and the STRENGTH of this fuse. by the LANDING GEARS......if you break THIS gear, chances are nothing else is worth saving. The installation is very well thought
out, there is a wood-tray pre - installed, the skids are permanent, then slide the whole HELI in from the front, 2 bolts to hold the frame, and a speciall support holds the boom. The only
difficulty for ME would be that the TAIL BOX has to be removed/ reinstalled to make it go through the fuselage. WIll cross that bridge when I get to it. I STILL CAN'T FLY A HELI . [>:]
Once I am able to get out of just HOVERING I will install this body in one of the TREX s....... I wished I had camera and CamCorder because the TREX HUGHES in Flight takes one's
breath away. I am a SUCKER for SCALE in everything I do. so there : for the future. NOW I really have to learn to fly....DARN.
I was also returned a 1/4 scale biplane that has the FourSTroke Four Cylinder OS PEGASUS engine in it..... In the Spring I will post a movie of that plane in flight. It is OOOWWWEEESOME !!!
Did 288 miles in 3 1/4 hours. The hiway is clear, just set CRUISE at 75 and took the best ride ever. Not a cloud in the sky, it was great.
< JIM WNUK> ALMOSTO FORGOT to say that the TURNIGY CHARGER was commented upon by the group of Experts in Dallas....they were VERY IMPRESSED. They have a SIMILAR ONE
but they claim they paid $ 200.00 for that one, so the price impressed them.......The programming windows are exact duplicates so they must be the same. Except only the cases are different.

p.s : I ALSO hovered the new AXE 400 and felt VERY COMFORTABLE with it also.

Back in the house, have household chores, but will continue checking for msgs......Glad to be BAAAACK ( like a gremlin ! HA ! )

Sounds like ya had a great weekend Rick! You will be doing forward flight before you know it. It's a matter of just going for it, we KNOW you are capable! Just believe in yourself. I like the Scale fuse. Someday I might, just not yet. I'm a sucker for scale too!

Vic- Please KEEP the snow, I have enough of it, thank you! LOL

Good thing my snow blower is working well! I'll be ready when those flakes fly again[>:]

Man Rick, I'm green with envy! What Hughes fuse is that, Aligns? I want to do one here shortly but the military version. The platform will be my T-Rex 450SA.

It sounds like you had a great weekend! I'm glad to hear the 400 flies out of the box. Now it's time to push her. No need for baby steps now, leap her forward and throw it around, just keep it a little higher than normal

Jim, I can't believe the amount of snow we've had this year. I shoveled off my deck and the snow is higher than the deck itself[:'(]

I hope all are doing well!

God Bless,

Jay
