Guys,
Well, my input would be, "Screw the Computer" and use your brain.
Works for me!
Thomas Edison didn't have a computer, and he has probably the most patents/inventions ever. Yikes!
Getting tired tonight, worked hard today.
God Bless ya all,
Dave / Choppersrule

BOB's.....
Update on Rick. I called his house, Margret was there. Rick is at the hospital, he got a shot in the affected spinal nerve, he is walking around to some extent, and not near as much pain...he's in good hands, all is well. He may be home tomorrow

I'm glad to hear your doing better Rick. I hope you can get back to us soon.
The wind has been blowing every time I get a chance to fly the HBKII so... I got bored and painted the stock canopy. It was pretty easy to do and materials are pretty cheap. A little painters blue tape, masking liquid for the windscreen, some trim sheet material to mask the stars, and paint. I started last night and got er' done this evening. Here are some pics. I forgot to take some pics of the masking I did for the stripes[&:] It's something different and now both sides look different helping in orientation.
I hope everyone is doing well!
God Bless,
Jay

Radio,
Many, many positives on the beautiful bird...what else can I say.
I have absolutely no talent when it comes to decoration...I can draft by hand and with computer but I have no eye for colours....I can't paint but I wish I could.
I don't know you guys tricks and such but maybe I wouldn't be considered out of place in offering something here:
Cutting canopies......use an exacto blade with the tip heated in a candle flame. With a little care you can get a lovely smooth cut.
Again we have storms this eve so I'll be railroading 'cos the spares for the HBK2 ain't arrived yet....maybe tomorrow.
For you engineering types entering candidates for "Buffoon of the Month" how about this one:
Remember dude who tried to run a 100ft steam line with no expansion allowance....?
Well, today I redesigned the area, gave him all the dimensions, a set of steam tables and the choice of slide rule or log tables and asked for a stress analysis and recommendations by lunch two hours hence.
"Oh," says I, "no calculators or computers necessary."
Great dismay and consternation...picks up the slide rule (my Faber-Castell log-log) and asks "What's this..?"
Bugger didn't know how to use log tables either.
Reminded me of a story from the book "Kolyma Tales" by Shalamov...he tells the tale of a prisoner boiler caretaker who complained repeatedly to his superior that the water injector on the boiler was in need of maintenence and wouldn't work. The ignorant superior wrote a nasty letter to his superior referring to the faulty part as "Comrade Injector" and demanded that "Comrade Injector be denied the privelege of working."...and imposition of an additional ten years for insubordination...!!!!!!!
Lightning is in the area so I must be away.
Barrrrrrrrickkkkkkkkkk...my thoughts are with you dear countryman.
Ray

Good to hear Rick is doing a little better.... If I ever end up in the hospital, someone please send my laptop and sim....
Jay the HBK2 looks great ! It took me a minute to realize it was the HBK2.... What a change, I see it definately improving on visibility and orientation. They get small quick ! The reason I got a yellow fiberglass canopy for the Trex, and helps a little. In the future I see a Micro-Heli head assembly on that bad-boy of yours ! It allows for a few extra adjustments, and very durable considering my last crash I splatted against the garage, and didn't even lay a scatch on the assembly. A little more spendy, but worth the extra for the quality....Anyway I'll see ya guys later.

Hello all, Hi Arrow, I purchased a cp pro from a friend. I may be inquiring about info once it arrives. Yes it's a first Heli, except the picco z, no it's not my first aircraft.

Excellent tip on the heating up of the blade for cutting the canopies...!
It never came to my mind in doing that. I'am always using my Dremel, but this should make it more user friendly next time I get the exacto knife out. Good day to ya...!

FAF, like Jeff posted any question, someone here can help.
Thanks guys for the compliments
I hate painting things like houses and such but when it comes to models I'm all for it.
Great tip on the Xacto blade cutting. I have a ton of them in a pile that aren't sharp enough to cut paper but heated up would be great for canopies or any other plastic cutting!
God Bless All!
Jay

Most of us have moved on to larger birds but just like the Badius thread, we are brothers in our love for flight. One of our members coined the phrase Band of Brothers and you will often see short broad statements to the "BOBs". You are our newest member of the BOB's and welcome to you!
Guys, this is Tim from the plank side of the forum. He is a wizard on planes and such. I am greatly pleased that he is joining our ranks as the \newest member of the BOBs!
Just to get you started Tim try looking up www.bladecprepair.com and that will give you some basic info on setup and maintainence of these finicky yet fun to fly helis. As J-Michael says anything ya need at all let us know.
Glad to hear Rick is feeling better and hopefully he will make a speedy recovery and get back to the field quickly and get us some more vid of his progress! Miss ya already old friend, get well soon!

Yes, welcome aboard ! I think I'am the "youngest member" at 38 years old...lol..I live in Washington State, and currently for the summer I'am down here on the Central coast of California... But no worries, My heli's are like my American Express....Never leave home without em'....
I started with the CP-PRO as my first heli a little over a year ago...I saw in your post in the other thread, that you think it might be a "challenge".... Well, it will be....I'am just starting to poke into the flight of the RC planes, and it would be like me as my first going to one of the more advanced 3-D models and such. (Which is me anyway...lol..) But you'll learn a lot from it, and your going to learn on one of the hardest, so in the future when ya upgrade to a belt driven like the HBK2, Trex, Mini-Titan, B400, whichever one it will be much easier coming from the skill level you just learned at from the CPP... You'll be fine as we are all here to walk ya through it, and you'll learn very quickly just keeping confident, relaxed and staying the course, because it's worth it in the future !
Take care,
Jeff

Bob's,
I take a small nap and all heck breaks loose, I can't keep up with you guys.
First and most importantly is our dearest friend Rick. I wish him the best on a speedy recovery and all works out well for him.
Rick,
Mi amigo, le deseo lo mejor y una pronta rcovery. Tenga cuidado y estar bien.
Arrow,
Glad to see ya pop in once in awhile and have wonderful words of your happenings. Glad you dumped the plastic bags. NO GOOD...
I'm a stickler for balancing blades myself, but until I read that one artical, I never would have belived that 1/100th of a gram could cause low or high frequeny vibrations. Motor break in: Hmmm, sometimes it works sometime it doesn't, those tiny little motors, not really that reliable. Tell Jacki, the Ol' Chopper said Hi, and give her a big hug from me too.
Jay,
Super on the paint job, looks awesome..Love it. If you get disorientated now, you may want to see an eye doctor.

See ya got the Carbon Fiber mains on, and the Superskids too. Now you need the carbon fiber boom, vertical and horizontal stabilizers.
Tim / FAF,
Welcome aboard the nut house. Ooops, I mean forum.
As others mentioned, collectively, we have a wealth of knowledge on the helicopters, just post anything that you have a question on.
rayelljay.
Concerning the main gear and pinion on your HBK2. ONe of the things that I found that works very well, are the Align pinions and the Micro-Heli main gear. The Micro-Heli main gear is pricey, 39 bucks. But, IMHO, it's worth the money. It is perfectly round, and made of much harder material. I went through 4 or 5 stock main gears, and then tried the Micro-Heli gear. I've been flying that gear for about 3 months or so, and it looks brand new. It survives crashes that would demolish a stock main gear.. Just food for thought.
J-Michael and Jay,
38 and 33 years old. You're just a couple of PUNK KIDS.

LMAO,, J/K you know that.
Love ya guys,
Dave / Choppersrule

Thanks Dave!
On a balancing note.... I went to the local hardware store, a great mom and pop place, and I got some screws and nuts that fit into the mains and some that fit the tail blades. I have a magnetic balancer so I made my own shafts to hold the blades in place. I found that my first attempt was quite a bit off. The tail was very close but I had to remove a lot of the white tape that I had on one of the mains. I didn't spool it back up yet but I'm betting it will much smoother. I was amazed at how closely the E-Sky carbons were matched.
God Bless!

Jay,
You are welcome, great job. I'm going to spend more time on the tail blades, I know they are off some.
Bob's,
Here's what Jay is talking about, a magnetic balancer.. I gotta get one of these.

That's so freaking cool Vic! I REALLY want a scaler!
Dave, yep that's the balancer I have. It assembles using to rods to connect both sides and those rods slide into the plastic holes or pockets. I just drilled the same size hole through one of the sides making it adjustable for any length bar or screw to fit in between the magnets. I can post pics if anyone wants. It work very well as long as your blades are inline and the screws or bars that you use are a perfect fit in the mounting holes of the blades.

THURSDAY in the A.M.
Just tried to READ the posts to "catch up"..... couldn't quite make it.
And so I post a short note : I am well, I have witnessed first hand the GIANT ADVANCE medicine has taken.
Particularly in the anesthetics...! they put me face down, strapped O2 mask......then I though I had blinked my eyes,
and the whole procedure was over and done with........How they DO THAT, is beyond belief.
Slept for 13 hours straight. Now I am UP in the chair, but Dr. says it will take 2 to 4 days for pain to subside and eventually leave.
I AM SO GRATEFUL TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO HAVE POSTED WISHES AND ENCOURAGEMENT.
All of you in the post are my ONLY friends. Except for this lady friend who comes clear across Houston to help me out.
I hope to be back at work Monday. Strange how my GLORIUS days of the First FLight Forward, turned into a rally bad meds.situation next day !
DAVE : there was no envelope from you in the MAIL. please check that out.!
CRASH : thanks for the personal concern. It is much APPRECIATED. JAY : you "words" pushed me into doing FF.....thanxxxxx

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I figured I neede a heli to get my planes out of trees
. Despite Arrow's intro I would rate myself as either experienced novice or beginner intermediate. I do have plenty of experience at crashing
. I figure 3 months minimum to get a good hover, which I understand to be the basic manuever from which all else comes. I did have a 3 ch co-axial heli for a short time. It was a chinese rip and wouldn't hover well, and on any forward motion the blades would clash. I gave the whole thing away thinking it was just a carpy knock off. The guy I gave it to spent months try to get it to hover before he threw in the towel
.
Now Arrow says that heli flying will take over my flying time and cause me to forget my everyday bird, the [link=http://www.lightflite.com]Lightflite Bug[/link] . This is unlikely as I can take it out and bore holes in the sky fast or slow and do oddities with it. I managed to get a fairly nice flat spin figured out. It is also virtually unbreakable. J.Micheal, I know this bird looks odd, but it is the best out of the box trainer and will do some interesting 3-d stuff. Inverted, split s/immelman's, multiple rolls, towering climbs into a hover stall. Oh and I have 3s batteries on mine so nearly limitless pure vertical. I'm presently working on an EDF catamaran for the yard. Stupid wind.
Barrick, I hope to get to know you in the future, and am pleased that your Doc did good work for you. Did you take a Picco Z in with you? Just to fly around the room? They use IR so there are no real reasons for the Doc's not to let you have one if they allow remote control TV's.

Vic,
The scaler is looking great, super job. I understand the headaches of taking the whole bird apart to make one adjustment or replace a part. That would be the biggest downfall to scales. However, they are extemel COOL. What ya gonna do with the EXI-450?

Stock or Scale?
Jay,
I do want to get the magnetic balancer, I'm a nut on that you know.
I would appreciate a picture or two. Whenever, no hurry, it'll be awhile before I get one. Other priorites.
Barrick,
Feliz de saber que usted está haciendo mejor. ¿Qué dicen los médicos que usted haga. Es muy importante
Concerning the envelope. I mentioned in my PM to you, that anything going east to west of the Mississppi River takes longer. And vice-versa. Don't know why, just does. I can't check on it, it wasn't insured. Cost of insurance would be more than the parts.

Give it until next Wednesday. 7/16/08. If not received, I'll ship it again, let me know.
Tim / FAF,
The heli is a great hobby and can become very addictive to say the least. Have you decided as of yet, on which helicopter to get?
One thing that you should look at is Radd's School of Rotary flight, if you are not aware of it.
Here is the site: http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html
Best to you and get a bigger wallet,

Dave, I have a slightly used Blade cp pro enroute. It has 2 sets of blades, 2 batteries, training gear, and the rest of the factory stuff. Is it worth opening a slot on my optic 6 for the heli? Or just use the factory radio? The Optic is full, but I could get a lipo battery for my flash 5 and move some simpler planes back onto that radio.
More tools, yay I guess, I can't use my $2 prop balancer huh. Oh well.

Tim,
Se trata de una llamada Tuff. I'll shoot this by you. The Hitec Optic 6 is a good programable radio system. and would work very well with the Blade CP. Of course you would need another receiver, but you probably have a few laying around.

I may suggest, that when you get the Blade CP Pro, that you go over it front to back, top to bottom. Check blade pitch and that all servos are okay and links fasten. You just never know, when receiving a slightly used helicopter.
On maiden flight, I would use the stock radio for awhile, after a week or whatever make you comfortable, then you may consider moving to the Optic 6. My logic on this is that you'll have to do all the programming on the Optic 6 for helicopter configuration and may have some trouble finding the sweet spot on a new heli. Do the stock TX first, then make the move when you can. Just food for thought.
Take care and have Blue Skies,

Good enough for me. I think I have a couple of Sombra labs 6 ch rx's. Great product by the way, they won't let servos twitch if you plug your battery in without turning on your TX. I discovered this by swapping 3 batteries through my at-6 and none of them would pass a ground check. Got out the watt meter, voltage was fine, looked back at the tx
, a laugh out loud moment. Decent range, they are rated at full or 1.5 mile range and I tend to believe them. The bug has been known to fly past the 1/3 mile range at 500+'.
No Heli today, if I can get into the Post Office tomorrow it should be there. Living in a town that has no mail delivery is a bit of a pain.

Jay,
I do want to get the magnetic balancer, I'm a nut on that you know.
I would appreciate a picture or two. Whenever, no hurry, it'll be awhile before I get one. Other priorites.
