JPEE,

Have you figured out the bug yet? Is it the motor? I still have this weird thing with the HBKII that after 20 seconds of flight the heli jumps upwards and the power goes down to the point that it barely has enough to hover. I'm hoping it's battery problems because the only thing I haven't changed is the Gyro. I'd rather have set-up issues than electronic problems anyday.

Windy here today so I spent the afternoon at the Kalamazoo Airzoo. They're offering free admision from now until September 30 for their anniversary. One more good thing about having no work.... you get to walk around a musuem when ever you want!

Blessings,

Jay

Default RE: Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!

Hello Jay,

I am going to back up just a bit. I call my Blade 400 heli's 401, 402, 403.

Last Friday I took 402 who dropped out of the sky the first time about a month ago after 30 seconds at the Park. A guys was flying EDF I think they are called, an induction fan jet. So I thought even with 2.4 gh that he might have jammed me for a moment. Later that day I found he was FM.

A week later I am flying at my 100 acre bankrupt future housing site. Itake up 402 now with nothing done thinking while at the Park, well that was an anomaly. I am flying wide open across the horizon and then then motor stops and she goes in hard but horizontally scattering parts along the way from the speed she was at.

Now Iknow there is a problem, DUH. So I installed a new ESC and I half rebuilt the framewith CAglue, tape and zip tiesand did a hover in the back yard for a full pack and half, no problems. So the next day I go to the Park and she is hovering for a 30 seconds and I lift her up 15-20 feet and the motor stops and I auto down. I come home replace f-shaft and install a new motor hovered, shoot-outs 2 full packs in the back yard, andagain no problems and figured "I gotcha now baby"! and set her on the shelf.

Then a day later we went back out to the open construction site. Itook 402 out and hovered for a sec and then took her up and again 15-20 feet the motor shuts off and I auto down with a bent f-shaft again. So I then go the pick-up and take out 401 and send her off to fly without issue until as I brought her in about 6 feet off the ground Ihear this screeeeeeech and the motor FROZEN and locked up (3rd time in 1.5 years this has happend) and down she came "without" any damage at all......................like you said I am getting good on auto lol. So the next day I took out the seized motor and set it aside and then took the motor that "I" thought was questionable on 402 and slapped that into 401 and flew the living crap out of it on Monday, yesterday for three full HARD packs in idle-up without issue. So that only reconfirms that when it was in 402 that was never the problem that makes her fall.

So my thinking is, we have the revceiver a Spectrum AR6100E version 1.6 which it the latest they have and we have the DX6i which is NOT in the recall catagory. So either there is a problem with the receiver, or perhaps there is a corrupted "model copy" in the transmitter, Idont know how but??.

After this issue of Spectrums receivers came to light thre weeks ago that the 1.2 "can" drop out under brown out and take much longer to re-connect they upgraded their receivers to correct this problem withnew FIRMWARE and put stickies on the receviers that read 1.6. So I when through all of my fliers and found Ihad three of those 1.2s. So I packed them up and sent them to Horizon to be updated. Right now Iam flying 401 on Lookyj's borrowed AR6100E so I will not try that in 401, but rather wait for my receivers to come back from re-programming.

Sorry for the long story, but it what it is.............

Sorry your work has slowed down to, drywall right? or over all construction?

My service calls for home repairs, elec, drywall, gates, fences, etc are down to"A" call every two weeks. Makes me feel blessed and glad that I do it for fun and to keep the old bones loose and the brain sharpsince Iam retired. I do feel for you youngsters still trying to put grub on the dinner table in today economy.

JPEE....I had probs with my DX7, it would drop out of the sky. I used a combo of Ricks DX7 and my RX.. and Ricks RX with my DX7...problems BOTHWAYS...I could have had a BAD DX7 (did it on any AR6100). Anyway...I'd had enough problems with the Spektrum...I got rid of it. I purchased a Futaba 7c and installed an Assan 2.4Ghz conversion module and I now use Assan recievers which only cost $30 as compared to Futaba's $113 . My point is....I couldn't really ever isolate the problem. Now I'm flying with the Futaba/Assan, it's perfect and I have total confidence in the system. I did run into an EMF prob when I had the Align MD500E fuse on there. It has 10 earth magnets that hold the front of the cabin in place that didn't bother the DX7/6100 when it was working, but it sure raised cain with the Assan RX. Since I restored my heli back to a normal type canopy, I haven't had any problems at all. I am in awe at the precision and stability of the radio system I'm now enjoying.

JPEE, I hope the new upgraded rx's fix the problem. I still wonder if the gyro has a short in it causing the glitch and motor shutdown. The backyard hovering wouldn't take much from the gyro but as soon as you make it work harder it shorts. Maybe?

BTW, I've got a flippin' video coming!

Blessings,

Jay

Okay so I got out the Blade CP pro 2 today. Turned on transmitter plugged in the battery and waited for the soild light. When I advanced tho collective nothing happened. The only way to get the rotor to turn was flip the switch for 3D mode. Any Ideas? I flew it around like this but But slammed it in a few times not remembering that half stick was idle.

Check to make sure that your throttle stick is all the way down and your trim for the throttle is also all the way down. Turn off the idle up switch and never touch that until your blades are spinning at full speed, usally in the air when you want to flip her upside down.
Sometimes my CP Pro (v1) wouldn't work either and I just had to wait a few more seconds or unplug it and do it again. I never could figure out why.

Jay

Can't wait for the Video, Jay!

JPEE- Was your 401 new? I recall when you were setting it up but don't remember if you got it new or not. Something tells me you were having issues prior to the 401 but I might be wrong. Electronic issues are the toughest to figure out, I do it for a living. I think you are on the right track with the RX. Any ideas when you might get them back?

Vic- If I get a new camera soon (thinking about it) I will be sending you my old one so we can see some video. It's pink (my wife's) but it does the job.

J-PEE !

where's RICK :

finalizing the GLIDER, one of the hardest set-up jobs I've had in a long time (fitting a HS55 "inside" a very restricted
space inside the vertical stab and making it align so the ELEVATOR centers and drives equally in both directions.
the whole STAB moves, no "elevator" separate) PIC # 1
also VIDEO chatting with my Mother in Brazil. snapped a pic from the screen. She is one AMAZING woman, at 95
not a wrinkle in the face, all her faculties, better than mine, actually, a memory like a vault, etc. I think you get the image
from the bad pic. with her lady companion, a Brazilian jewel of a lady. I hope to spend JULY down there with them
SO:
this is where RICK is ... !

never FEAR ; I lurk every day, keep up with the news, and follow y'alls progress and distressing reports of forced AUTOS

JPEE,
I forgot to answer earlier that I do Drywall hang/finish, metal stud framing, and acoustic ceilings. I do some other things as well but that what I do best. I hope it picks up soon.

I noticed today that while the ESC was arming mine tail servo was twitching to the chiming. I think I'm going to relocate some wiring to see if that stops it.

Rick, that is awesome that you can video chat with your Mom. I can't wait to see some video of the glider and plane. Very cool Rick!

I got the T-Rex out and did some more flips and tried to hold it inverted to. The first one didn't go well at all and I almost hit myself and the ground. I recovered though and kept on flying. The good news was that I caught it all on the camera

HERE'S THE VIDEO!~ T-RexSA flips on Vimeo

Blessings All,

Jay

You are getting closer to completion Rick, I'm excited for you. Your mom looks beautiful for her age. I see where you get your good looks and charm from.

Have you flown anything lately?

DUCK!!!

That's what I yelled on that first one, LMAO! But I've done it myself a few times. What a great video and great flips too, Jay. You do a lot of nose in stuff also, love to see that. What motor and pinion are you running in the SA? My B400 has a 430L with 13T pinion but my headspeed doesn't sound quite like yours. Actully, I just dropped an 11T pinion in it tonite and plan to test that out in the AM.

Jim, I had to duck my head just a bit and move the 72mhz antenna out of the way
I'm running the 430L and 13t but I don't know what the stock main gear is on the T-Rex. I'm also running the 325mm pro woodies but I'm dying to try out the 315's. That 11t should take care of any bogging at the high pitch but I hope it doesn't slow down your head speed too much.

Here's an amazing video of a glider for Rick! I wouldn't try this with the Bird of Time!

LMAO....my daughters is pink as well. Funny, it don't affect the pictures at all.....but I'm NOT even gonna mention what I'm thinking about PINK right now. Funny thing happened when we got low winds. Last night I went from 33 to 35 on my gyro setting because I felt it was a bit sloshy in the tail...just a tad. Well, I flew a couple packs earlier in winds 5-7mph, and it acted funny, I wouldn't even attempt a nose in fly-by. I grabbed two more batteries, and went back out, adjusted the gyro settings back to 33...nose in is no problem again and stability is 100% better than at 35...still learning this Futaba.

This post is dedicated to a fallen friend who was 77 years of age, Richard Rogers. An avidplankR/C'er for MANY years and a licensed pilot for up toCessna 182's of which he owned one till a couple years ago. His endevors also included a scratch built "Cub" type aircraft (full scale), and many .40 sized R/C planes. A great flying buddy, he will be missed.

JAY RADIO F.
that was EXCEPTIONAL in more ways than just ONE :
the VIDEO is clear and keeps focus almost all the time.
The flying SITE is elegant, what else could one say ?
I DO like this VIMEO system. How does one connect/use that ? it seems to be better than UTOOB.
and the FLYING has earned you the title of KING, absolutely.
and with the SA,!!!! of which there are TWO, right here. Of course, one is passing itself off as a HUGHES>
i haven't really flown a TREX , not yet, other than a couple of HOVERING FILMS, of short duration.
all my adventures so far have been done with the HB2 and the AXE400 .... having looked at your film (twice) I
will make an effort to go FLY the SA..... if for no other reason than to show the gorgeous canopy that VIC made for it.

WNUK, : thanks for the complimentary remarks. I still haven't flown much......it is SO difficult for me to get out and DO it !
I hope to FINALIZE the setting up of the BOT, tomorrow, maybe? once THAT is behind me, then all the TRIALS have to be
done, and for that Ineed to drive 53miles to the Municipal RC flying field, to use the Unlimited Space, 1K long runway, etc.
that place always has somebody experienced enough to be a careful, conscientious co-pilot for my first attempts with this
new and unknown system ( 3 meter wings, never before!) and naturally to be a camera-man also.

JPEE, I need to be at least 1/16 as ACTIVE as you are right now, with all that time. My mornings are taken up until 1:30pm
At 3pm the temps. are now up to 90F and Iget discouraged..... I am TORN between flying my RAPTOR either alone (DANGEROUS)
or when somebody else is around ( then I am SHY and reluctant to be caught in a crash or something worse) ... as mentioned before
most of the men here are not all that friendly to me. But, they DO help me, when Iask. when this Bird of Time is finished I will begin the
setting up of the SPIRIT ELITE, a 2 meter glider that I KNOW I can handle without any help or questions.

10pm bed time.....or else Ilose the glass slipper

Rick,
Thank-you very much! I still think Looky is King and Jeff a very close second I'm merely a pawn
Getting on Vimeo is easier than you-tube. Just click on the sign-in and go from there. It will ask for the usual stuff, email ect., and your aloud 500mb per week. Some times it takes awhile for them to convert your video for view, ( mine took one and a half hours before they got to it) but I like it better. I used more zoom for todays flight but that's why it was harder to keep in frame using the helmet cam.

I bet that Bird of Time could hold a heck of a camera for great aerial videos. I can't wait to see it!

Blessings,

Jay

JAY -

Great vid! I agree with RICK and have gladly passed over the throne. My skills have hit a stalemate and have not progressed for sometime. Hopefully, I'll get the HK450 soon and can get back to practicing.... seems I got some catching up to do!

JPEE -

you figure out what's causing the motor to drop out yet? I'll feel real bad if it turns out to be the AR6100E, you are borrowing. I never had any issues with it when it was in my 450SA. Please let us know what you find. Maybe, I'll have to send it in to get the firmware upgraded.

MS1095 -

Is the trim on the throttle all the way down when arming the ESC?

Jer....I have a a hunch there's nothing wrong with the RX you sent. When I was having all the probs with my DX7, I sent one of my AR6100's to Dave, worked fine for him...wouldn't work for me...exact same problem....heli dropping from sky. I replaced everything including all servos and gyro....nothing helped. It WAS a BAD DX7....now I run FUTABA.....it's GREAT.

Looky, even your stalemate is beyond my skills

JPEE, are you running the same Tx for all 400's or a different one for each?

I think I cleared up all of my glitches and tail hold problems I've had. The HBKII would glitch and the RPMs would drop significantly. I watched Finless's video on the GY401 set-up and found that I had screwed stuff up big time. Some where I had read to remove the yellow wire fron the rx and leave it out..... wrong, I plugged it back in on both birds. I also had my rates set for standard mode not HH. I had thought that with the yellow wire out it defaulted to HH,( telebee does this I think.) With a new mechanical centering and reprogramming I'm back to HH buisiness. One flight on the SA proved perfect tail hold, now to perfect the gain. One flight on the HBKII no glitch but I need new batteries.

Blessings,

Jay

Jay- Tested out the 430L with an 11T pinion this AM, I liked it better than the 13T. The batteries ran cooler and longer. I did lose some head speed but it didn't affect the heli that I could tell. Here is some video of this AM's test. I was practicing inverted hovering. Started out doing some loop and holding it on top for short periods. Then went longer and longer. The last one in the video, I brought it down as low and as close to me as I dared. I'm still being cautious with it. Watch closely at about 1:50 into it. I SWORE it hit the ground and nearly just killed the throttle to minimize the damage. I don't know HOW I saved it, luck I suppose.

P.S Vimeo does a much better job than Utube, I'll be using it from now on. Thanks for pointing us there Jeff & Jay.

Yep, bugs are on the way sadly. Need to get me some deep woods Off! Forgot to mention, I picked up a set of 315 Pro Woodies today. I think those with the 11T pinion will be just right.

Off topic Jay but was cusrious how your son was doing in soccer. Drop me a PM sometime to let me know how he's doing. And shouldn't you be watching the Red Wing game? Malkin 1, Detroit 0. LOL!
