Wheeeeeeee.......... Blade CP!
ORIGINAL: crashcrash
Well, I'm sure you accomplished the appeal, and then some. I just did a test flight on my EXI and I put on those composite blades they sent when I bought the ''EXI plastic version'', and I took the woodies off. I had to make 1/2 turn adjust on the tracking...it was that close. I took it out, a little windy and gusty. Must'a got it right because I did a bit of hands off and some slow piros in the wind as well as some nose in, she's smooth as glass. The other night while re-building it after a crash, I powered it up for a test on the bench and somehow I tripped the idleup switch and it went full bore in my hand. I actually grabbed it hard and captured the blades in my arms as it's beating on me, I finally unplug the battery. Well, in grabbing it HARD, the canopy retainer stabbed two nice holes in my right hand (deep), blood splattered everywhere. The blades hit my left middle finger and peeled some skin back, as well as the beating my arms took, the bruises still hurt. The damage to the heli was a set of blades, feathering shaft, and a slightly bent lower rear frame. We fought, I think I LOST...I got beat up worse than it did. Good reason to have that TEST STAND you built. I'm glad I had woodies on there instead of the composite...could'a been a LOT worse. No matter how careful you are, sometimes it goes wrong. I sought to unpower the unit and minimize damage to the helicopter....I didn't think about minimizing the damage to ME. Had I been wearing my leather jacket, I doubt it would have hurt me as bad as it did. The lesson in all this....a 450 can really put you in the hurt locker, possibly kill you, so your stand is ''right on'' for something you need.[X(]

Thank you very much, Vic, I appreciate that greatly. Just trying to add those elements to the video to gain some visual appeal, while keeping it simple and clean.

Nice production of the video, the dog is a show stealer. The stand is cool too, but I spent most of my time appreciating the talent it took to put that video together. Nicely done.

HOLY CRAP VIC, I'm glad you're okay, even with some serious puncture wounds and flesh beating. I'm sitting here with my mouth wide open just imagining that scenario, which I've worried about myself ever since I had a tx with an idle up switch. I assume you had the iodine or alcohol at the ready? My god... even with all that, you're lucky it didn't hop up enough to hit you in the neck or face. Sincerely hope the wounds don't require medical attention, good luck with the repairs to YOU and the heli.

Hello Vic,
DANG!......you really came close to some real unreversable damage to yourself. Thanks gooness you are ok. That took my breath away just reading it. There was a case here the Public Fly Field operated by the Parks and Rec Dept. where a guy was doing a nose in..........and he nosed in to his face. What I read was that his face got torn off his skull and was chopped horribly. He had to be air lifted to some hospital that could deal with something like that. I read that early in this hobby which kind left me scarred in that I have no interest in nose ins. Couple that with my friend running a Blade 400 into his shines while landing nose in. I no likie nose in's
Glad your gonna be ok...........JPEE

At least your not being a "NANCY BOY" about your mishap. LMFAO!
We'll have to compare scares someday, I have a few lifetime ones myself. [8D] You've brought out alot of the dangers in this hobby and bringing it to everyones attention.. Let's all be EXTREMELY CAREFUL and COGNIZANT of your helicopter at ALL TIMES.
S L O W D O W N !!!!!!
MR. RICK,
Glad to see you're poppin in. Enjoy your trip to Brazil and enjoy your family, that's most important. IF memory serves me right, you were 27 years old when you came to the United States.. Rick, take care and enjoy yourself until October. Not to worry about us Dufuss Boys. LMAO!

Thanks guys.....today, all bandages and dressings come off, bruises are almost gone, the punctures are seald, the rip is sealed, pain almost zero, swelling is down to about 5% of what it was 6hours after the incident. As I told Jay, I was tired, and somehow tripped the idle-up when I picked up the heli. If you're tired....walk away, that's what I learned. OH...the heli now is SMOOTHER and flys better now than before the incident, so what ever was wrong got fixed after the accident. I flew it today in wind, hands off, slow piros, and nose in with no problems. JPEE...I think about what you said about nose in's all the time. WHen I do nose in, normally I do it at 15ft up and 20yds away. I never fly directly at myself...that would be just crazy. I haven't tried a takeoff or landing while nose in...don't have the stones for it I guess (right now anyway).

Dear maam,
I'am so very sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed Ray's witty remarks and encouragements he would offer to the forum community here in many threads I've came across. This one also in particular. He will be greatly missed, and will always be one of the "Band of Brothers"... I just happened to come across one of his threads just recently in fact on one of the other main threads here in the E-Flite forum called the "Struggling With Single Rotor Basics" thread that I also attend and on the first page of MANY pages he again, offered the words of wisdom to the new members of the RC Heli community. He said this :
Be not afraid....practice will make perfect and you will learn the quirks of your birds.
I started just over a year ago with a CX-2 and it has proved to be as bulletproof a bird as anyone could want providing you don't expect too much from it. Violent movements are out so it teaches smoothness.
I went to Cp-pro after a few months and "taught myself" to fly it.......just be patient and cautious....if you're not comfortable with the flight, land and try again.
Do not let the pressure of others coerce you into expensive bravado.
I still fly with the "training wheels" because it does increase the footprint and saves main blades.
With the CP-pro, to try to get perfect mechanically is a waste of time and resources. The heli is "gifted" with small diameter ball link ends for which there are no adequate tools so fine adjustment means some mangled fingernails and possible busted parts. Some ball ended pliers will work to separate the linkage but reassembling needs great care.....once you've done it a few times, you'll be OK....the actual balls have a skinny attachment' so that is the point of potential breakage.....I made my own little jigs for painless reassembly.
Some of the "goodies" out there are nice...(I have two CNC heads for the Pro) but, in reality, I found the best upgrades to be the autorotation system and the alum swashplate.
If you want mechanical (flying) perfection then you need to consider a bigger machine with easier handleable parts......I went to a T-rex and found that the larger disc spinning at higher RPM was easier to control.
I currently have 1-CX-2 with Stersman tail and the original motors but alum swashplate, 2-CP-pros with superskids, autorotate and alum swashplates and original motors...!!! and my beautiful Rex.
Most of all.....get some simulator time.....not just to play with but to learn what to expect from specific control inputs....some of those sim models are pretty accurate and will prepare you with a good visual "sight picture" of a bird in the air ('tis a trifle disconcerting when you first get a look at the underside of the rotor) but there's nothing quite like the real thing.
You'll find that hovering while within ground effect will be quite a challenge but not insurmountable....I found that once you get above three feet altitude you'll be able to relax more when out of ground effect.
It will become more addictive as you getter better and more confident.....trust me on that......and you'll get to a stage where you'll say to yourself "....can't understand why I had a problem with that."

As his first words he says in the post above, "Be not afraid....." He's in a much better place now, and will always be within your heart. Treasure the lifetime of memories he gave you, and embrace it.
Again, I'am so sorry...............

Your father will be missed by all of us. Our hearts go out to you and your family as well. He was a marvelous person, with his fingers in alot of different things and enjoyed them all. If there is anything we can do for you, just let us know. We are a "Band of Brothers" and we stick together.
My prayers are with you, God Bless,

Thanks for the kind words guys... It helps a lot. Its hard right now, but in time will get better... Its hard to be in the hobby room and not having my companion by my side. Currently Its hard to spend the time in there. However, I can't even muster what Ray's daughter is feeling at the moment with the loss of her father. My prayers are definately directed towards her right now.

I'am so very grateful you didn't sustain more damage to yourself than what already has happened. I swear, I'am more afraid of my 450 than my other birds just because of the headspeed those little guys can dish out. I really need to be more careful also, and not lose the respect of these dangerous heli's. Mainly because for one, I fly alone which is not a good thing, and usually when I fly its quiet and early in the morning. I always make sure I have my cell-phone with me just in case, and there is a field first aid kit in the car among that. The best thing for me is to just use extra precautions. JPEE's story of the nose-in's with that gent's face being re-arranged, now has me looking at a different approach of how I do things also.

I'am so glad your with your loved ones, and I know your going to have a wonderful time there for sure. Safe journey's when you do come back home.

I hope the pain subsides for you. I know I hug my dog every day, and I love when she comes to check on me several times a day. It's gonna be hard when she has to leave me eventually, but I know I love her enough that if I need to, I will be like my wife and make the call, and not let her suffer. These last 30 days have been tough. My injuries were minor, I was lucky and I know it. I'd hate to get chewed up by a .30 gasser, that's for sure. Best wishes my friend, hang in there.

Thanks Jeff. This is indeed becomming a somber last couple weeks. My wife had her little dog of 16 years put to rest, he was real bad and just suffering, she made the call. Jay's companion, not well, then yours, ORCAUS, his dog needing a wheel chair, then Ray. Ray was an INTERESTING person to me as he was a musician and I have learned that as NUTS as they can be, there is an intellegence that goes beyond the norm. Ray was special because UNLIKE other musicians I know currently, he wasn't full of himself. He was a regular guy with a love for the R/C helicopter.
