Default CP Pro problems

I have had the CPP for a little over a week now. I have been following RADD's program. I now have two issues that I need help with.

1. I noticed on the last flight that the tail boom is loose and rotates. How can I fix this?

2. A little more serious. When I went to "fly" it yesterday and plugged in the battery, all of the servos started to go nuts and the motors started to spin uncontrollably. I thought maybe the battery but the trusty DMM showed 4.2 volts on each cell. The led flashes red, then flashes green, then steady green. When I "flew" it the other night, all was well when I stopped and unplugged the battery.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Doug

First let the tail move it will keep it from breaking the shaft and propeller. For the servos check you gain on the 3 in 1. Turn it down some see if that helps also check pot control.

Doug just ignore AN,s statement there is no such thing as a dumb question. He is right to make sure your Transmitter is on before you power up the helo, and make sure all trims are set and that the throttle is set to lowest postion, and throttle trim is set that way too.

ok first off all make sure that idle up is off and then turn on the tx and then thr rx and see if that works, also make sure the tx batteries are charged good, and also check your crystals and make sure the are snug into both the tx and rx..let us know how it goes..

Scratch, my BCP tail shaft got to be so loose that it would twist in flight. This is no fun and so I placed the heli upside down with the tail pointing down a bit and then put small amount of super glue on both sides of the shaft where it meets the flat section of the main frame. I then (of course) allowed it to dry. Just make sure that you don't let any glue work its way into the shaft bore in the main frame. Also make sure that the boom is (of course) properly aligned before you glue it. Doing this secures the tail yet allows you to remove the boom if needed by carefully twisting it until the glue breaks.

Good luck and good flying!

P.S. I've been in this hobby for over 20 years and have only had three serious glitching problems with RTF radios (never w/ Futaba or Hitec). One problem was traced to a cracked solder joint on the Tx antenna connection to the circuit board and the the other two were traced to interference caused by the main fluorescent lighting in my garage.

Thanks for the replies,

Yes the transmitter was on, the idle and throttle in the min positions and the throttle hold switch in the aft position. Remember I did mention that the led on the 3-1 was going to steady green which means that it aligned properly.

As far as the twitching, it is all servos not just the tail rotor, so I can't see it being a gain issue for the gyro. It was working fine one flight and then not on the second flight with nothing having changed on the heli.

Just so you know my background, I have been doing planes for twenty years so am not a noob in RC, just the helis.

Almaidah,
yes I am getting power to the motors, but it is inconsistent. I moved the throttle off of the idle stop and it went to what seemed like full RPM. I quickly returned to the idle stop and unplugged the bat. I plan on visiting the LHS tonight.

Thanks

ok well it could be a bad main motor or a sign of your 4 in 1 going out....just a question do you have the fuse mod on your cp? and i dont know if this is the same as yours but if you full throttle do the heli spin up and then drop down up down like your losing power and then getting it back? you know what i mean?

make sure that all of the servo leads are fully connected CORRECTLY to the receiver, I had a similar problem and one of the servo leads had wiggled out a bit. It could also be interference from somewhere but that seems a bit unlikely, also make sure your Tx antenna is screwed in all the way, mine has worked itself out before after travelling with it.

hrm, one of the hardest things to fix, and I have to make a post here today, because it's like the only CP question in the forum today =P wow, what a big day for the cx helis =)

anyways, a couple of things, how is your antenna on the Rx side wound? It's not around the tail boom or anything is it? you haven't shortened it or modified it? Have you checked it for continuity? Sometimes the rx antenna can have a short in it even if the insulation has little to no damage. Someone had already mentioned reseating the crystals, how did that go? Have you tried your heli in a different location, onee that would likely have less RF noise?

If all that is the case, I would unhook everything, and then just add one part at a time and see if you can't isolate which part is causing the problem. Also opening up the Tx and looking for cracked or frayed solder joints, and checking that the antenna is screwed all the way in.

what about your Tx batteries? How are they doing? Measure them in the Tx with it on and see what kind of voltage you are getting.

Alot of these things have probably already been said, but I am just brainstorming, trying to come up with something that you could look at =)

If it ends up being something like the main or tail motor, there are quite a few good fixes for that.

Thanks for all of the replies. At this point I took it back to the LHS and tomorrow I should have some idea what is wrong with it. When I took it tonight, the owner wasn't there and there were just some folks that I had not seen before and they were not in a position to do anything. I will let everyone know what the LHS says.

Doug,

I had a similar problem. Servos went squirrelly, motors jumping around. Found out when I wiggled the tx, it would really happen a lot. Opened it up to look for bad wires from the antenna but all was good. After scratching my head a bit, I reached up and just screwed the atenna shaft back into the radio. It had worked loose as Synister's had. It happened within the first two weeks of ownership. I know you have returned it but worth talking about when you get back with the owner of the shop. They will probably spot it if that is the case.

cltmte

I will feel quite foolish if that is all that it is. I wish that I would have tried that first but never really thought of that.

Shouldn't feel foolish. There are many things that can happen to cause problems and you wouldn't think an antenna from a new tx would be loose. It was just by chance that I noticed the "chirping" when I bumped the tx, so I did it again and that is the only reason I started even looking down that road. Good luck in getting it resolved and back to flying.

Update:

Went to the LHS this afternoon to check on it. They had pretty much tried and replaced all of the parts but without finding the problem. I suggested the crystals, and after a swap of both the TX and RX crystals everything was back to normal. I don't know which failed as the set the I got was on a different freq, but at least it is all fixed.

Hey, glad to hear it and glad you are back in the air. Thanks for the update. I was wondering what it turned out to be.
