Hi!! I just purchased a CX-2 and, needless to say, I have NO idea what I'm doing
Actually, I only have one question, for now. I've read many posts here about a site that helps you setup the CX-2. However, my problem is I cannot get to that site. I click on the link, but it times out everytime and refuses to load. I've tried that same link that was in different posts and still can't get there. Is the site down, or am I screwing up somehow? From what I've read thus far, I really DO NEED that site!!
Any help sure would be appreicated...THANKS!!

Thanks for the replies. Sorry it took so long to get back to ya'll, but had to run down to HobbyTown USA and pick-up some more upper main rotors!! Bzinfinity, I'm trying to get this darn thing to hover again. I get it up about 3 feet (in the house) and when I try to trim it up it just doesn't respond. It insists on flying backwards and the nose goes left (looking from the rear of the chopper). I took it to the aforementioned store yesterday to let them trim it, and they did a fairly good job, and it flew quite well except for it seemed heavy on the right stick. Then, I took off the 'training wheels' and now the darn thing goes all over the place again, like it did before, and I can't seem to get it re-trimmed. (My reason for needing more upper main rotors
) I could take it back and let them re-trim it for me again, but I need to learn this kind of stuff for myself instead of letting someone else do it for me. I can't learn anything that way!! Here's what I've done so far. After reading the manual that came with her, I attempted to adjust the 'trim pot' alittle bit at a time, but after about an hour of that there still was no change in her flying habits. I tried the trim slides on the controller, but she still acts like a Hummingbird of crack!!
I have never flown an RC model and I was told to start with some cheap planes, simply because helicopters are much harder to fly, but I've always been intrigued by helicopters, so I figured I'd start with the CX-2. So, whattya think? Is there still hope?!!!
BTW, after reading alot of the other posts, I also sprung for a heatsink and a metal center shaft. However, I think I'll wait until I become airborn before I attempt some of those other mods ya'll talked about!! I can't even fly the darn thing and I'm already talking about mods!! Go figure

Ok Ben, sounds like you need to adjust the servo links to achieve level hovoring first. If you take off the front canopy and look at both servos. turn on the TX then plug in the heli and let it arm....make sure the throttle is all the way down! After you get your arming sequence done (solid green light) Make sure all your trim sliders are centered and the throttle trim all the way down. Move the right stick forwards and backwards. Note which servo moves and the direction of the servo. Then move the right stick to the left and right and notice direction of servo arm movement on the other servo. Now you know what servo controls which direction. Using that as a starting point, adjust the forward/back servo link first by removing the little ball link from the swashplate ball. If you want the heli to lift off more level....... turn the ball link in one full turn, reattach and test for liftoff. If the heli still continues to lift off backwards try turning the servo link in by one half turn and retest. Continue until you achieve a level flight.............liftoff will always be a little shakey but once its in the air it should give you a good idea of which way its drifting.
Same concept for the left right movement too...... lift off....adjust.....retry until level hovoring is achieved. By the way.....forward back movement is Elevator and left right is Aileron.
Tail drift requires some time and should be done with a fresh battery. Hovor for about a minute and let the battery settle in then set it down and look at the 2 little potentiometers on the side of the 4 in 1 ( the little white dealies ya turn with a screwdriver) The one towards the front of the heli is the gain pot and the one towards the rear is the Proportional pot. You need to adjust the porportional pot to cancel out that tail drift to the left. You stated you had a left rotational drift in the tail so you need to make a small counterclockwise adjustment on the proportional pot. after making adjustments to the pot, you have to unhook the battery and then hook it up again and let it rearm. Keep making small adjustments until the drift is pretty much gone (mine still gets a little towards the end of the battery).Someone correct me if I am wrong on pot direction I don't have a manual handy at the moment. Let us know how you makew out Ben and ask any questions you need to.......... We are all here to help if we can!

Ben,
Email me directly and put CX SETUP in the subject line so I find it. I have it all here as a Microsoft Word document. It's a large file with a few photos included (6.4 MB) and I can email it to you directly.
If I need to, I can strip the photos out (they really don't add a lot - file size is only 66 KB without the photos) and it's entirely email friendly. How's that for service?

Man, you guys are something else!! No matter what forum I go to, whether it be a gaming forum, or the Mercedes Tech forum I have to wait at least a day or two for an answer, but ya'll stay right on top of things around here!!
Thank-you both for your replies, it IS much appreicated! Soloboss, I'm going to e-mail you for those setup instructions and I'm going to print out the instructions that ArrowNaughtic gave me in his post. Between the two of you if that bird doesn't fly it sure won't be your fault!!
If you want to send the photos also, go for it. Please, just make it easy on yourself. As for the service, well Soloboss, if you could send along a large pepperoni pizza with that file, well THAT would be service!LOL Don't worry about the drinks though...I have plenty of Mt. Dew in the fridge!! Again, thank-you both so much for your replies.
As for asking more questions, trust me ArrowNaughtic, you haven't heard the last from me!!! Once I get this bird flying, I'll undoubtly need help with some of those mods ya'll talked about. I'd like to try some of them. However, first things first!!

I GOT IT!! I GOT IT!! Well Soloboss, it appears that your site is back up and I printed out ALL of it. However, after reading all of it, I want to try some of those mods, like the flybar and putting holes in the 4 in 1 case. I already have the heatsink, but just not installed yet. Also, I just got back from HobbyTown where I bought one of those metal center thinghys for the upper rotors. You know, the thing with the blue top!!
Now I'm beginning to see where you all get your enthusium (lousy spelling!) and I can see where this can become a very addictive hobby. I've only been at this less than a week and I'm afraid I'm hooked. See what you guys did to me? You have created a monster!!LOL Seriously though, would it hurt to do those mods first and then trim it, or would it be better to trim and then mod? Whattya think? Or doesn't it matter?

Glad to see what was seen in me but a few months back !
Blue thingy= aluminum flybar holder, or head. Or aluminum flybar head.
Here is the way to "Trim" it.>>>>>
[ul][*] Unplug both motors.[*] After the 4 in 1 arms, look at the swashplate. (servo's are centerd). Pick a flat, level part of the heli,
(frame, servo bodies, etc...) to judge the swashplate against.
Whatever way the swashplate is lowest...is the way the heli will go. [*] Are the servo arms level in neutral position? If not...pull them off, center them, then
start to use the linkages for the adjustment.[*] Use the adjustment links to get the swashplate as level as you can......use the trim to get it the rest of the
way.
[/ul]
Starting from there........you can't go wrong...it should be so "close" to right
NOTE: DO NOT remove screws, tighten screws, or try to move or force servos when they are powered
up....they are trying to maintain a position. And moving them or forcing them when they are on can do no
good.
If rudder (spinning while in steady hover) is a problem :
Run about half the pack...place rudder trim in the middle, then turn the proportional to trim it.
If you are looking like you are sitting in the heli...the easy way to remember how to turn the
proportional is.....turn it the way you WANT the heli nose to go.
If you want the nose to go right .....turn it right....clockwise.
If you want the nose to go left .......turn it left.....counter clockwise.
It doesn't matter if you mod it now or mod it later......as long as you mod it !!!
But really as long as you are having fun with it , that is all that matters. Mod it when you feel comfortable!

Hey soloboss ....how about just starting a new thread and paste your article???
It would be a help to many, (as it already has). I went searching for it here
earlier, but all I found was a portion of it (I thought I had seen the full posted version , but maybe
that was all that was posted, when you was just starting it).
But anyway it would be posted here in your "home base".
Spread the knowledge as farthey as thee I can see.....
I am with you, I have looked though a few of the different
boards and for now, I like this one best.
I don't think you can put your pictures in order with your script (or at least I haven't figured out how
to). But pictures at the end ...always works.
And for now the.........

And...
I never flew with "training wheels", and I might never as I progress, but..........I have seen threads on here
as to the effects of training skids on how the Heli handles........don't know from experience, but I could see that.
Then, I took off the 'training wheels' and now the darn thing goes all over the place again, like it did before,
and I can't seem to get it re-trimmed. (My reason for needing more upper main rotors )

We were trying to put everything in one place by moving it to the offsite wiki. Usually it's only down for a few hours while it backs up. and by now everyone knows to point n00bs to the Overall Setup Page. I added a new message when I posted it for solo back in like april/may, along with several other articles I wrote and/or moved/copied.
I am in no way affiliated with helimax.net in fact I'd say I was affiliated with RCU more than them, and I've asked moderators to begin a wiki here so we can saved the information for primarily us. No go.
Oh well, just stating facts, not trying to be a pain. It's just we kept getting the same questions over and over it was easier at the time to link offsite, as most n00bs don't look up old articles, they just post hey I can't x or I can't fly hahaha.
thanks guys
Try, say you? Drink or drink not, there is no try. Hiccup.

Thanks guys for the replies! Thanks Balance for the correction of my 'technical jargon.' At least now I know what to call it...blue thinghy just didn't sound right, but that was the best I could come up with!!!LOL Oh well, at least you knew what I meant even if I didn't!
Also, thanks for the trim tips, together with everything else I've learned in the last day or two, your tips will come in handy! THANKS!!
DrunkYoda, I agree that you guys seem to get the same questions over and over again from us n00bs, but what sets this forum apart from most of the others is patience. You guys appear to have tons of it and that speaks volumes as to the kind of people you guys are. This is only a personal observation but you people here appear to have a true desire to help other people enjoy what ya'll are already experiencing....flying choppers!! (do they even use the term 'chopper' anymore?
)
Okay, now for another question....just what is the 'swashplate' and where is it located? See, I'm more of a n00b than you thought, huh? I'm sure I could figure it out, but I just want to make sure I don't screw up too badly. I know what the servos are and what they look like and I even know what the servo arms are, but I just want to make sure about the swashplate.
Thanks again gentlemen for your help, it IS much appreicated. Trust me...."I'll Be Back!!"

DY : The site is looking good and understand. I was surprised that Helimax was a place for E-Flight tips.
I didn't know if someday it might get wiped out because of that. Or do they have nothing to
do with that heli manufacture?
And I suppose if we answered all the questions with stickies, then we wouldn't have people to talk to
anymore
