And as far as the tail motors failing I have heard some folks say that they have a ton of hours on the GWS tail motor with a HH and no troubles. Mine probably has 15 hours or so on it & I just threw it in with no break-in, and I hope it goes a lot longer.
Either way Happy flyin'
Noah
Hi Noah,
I had heard the same thing about the GWS motor giving out early. Kyle is still on his original motor and I have to guess that it has 20 plus flights on it with out a problem.

zope_pope
We ran the G90 with the stock tail for a while and it did OK. That is the configuration that Kyle flew in Chicago.
We converted ours to DD after watching Nick Maxwell's fly. It is worth the effort.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Ray, thanks for the comment. Was the tail more solid in conditions with wind or being aggressive with the throttle, etc... or was the tail just more authoritative? I'll be making the mod this week most likely, but just wondering what I can expect. Thanks!

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

I am useing a G500T gyro and it weighs a little more that 3X the G90... It works pretty good...

I put my little bird back together with the new parts and WOW there is so much LESS play with the new center hub. Ok it seems to fly ok... Better than before the parts. Still a little harder though. I will have to get a large open area to skid around a parctice low hovers. (I think I forgot how to fly... It has been so long)

just out of curiousity, has anyone tried a fut 401 on this thing? Sorry if this is an old subject, I just got involved in the thread. I have one laying around and its a really nice gyro, though I expect heavier than the G90. Still, its paid for and works well.

Aerodave, you want to swap a g90 for that 401? let me know what it would take...

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

The GWS DD is more authoritative and holds better in wind. I use the Zoom HH and it is basically the same as the align 500..

Put on the DD tail and buy a Trex if you want a 3D performer. I did and it is unbelievable how much better flying the Trex does with so much ease.

Hope I have helped

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

no, Savage, I'm just saying I suspect my 401 is a better gyro than the G90 and I was wondering if anyone had tried it. Actually, after 6 flights I have found the stock gyro to be fine. Some tail wag when adding colletive/throttle but no big deal. When I can get to a bigger flying space and get it into idle up we will see for sure. I suspect the tail will be a little loose in 3D but for simple moves like flips and loops and rolls it will be manageable. The longer I have this little thing the more I think the stock setup is fine. Its what it is, after all.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Dave,

If you make sure the middle stick to full positive collective have the same throttle and pitch curves, you should be able to switch between the normal and idle up in a hover and see no difference, no drop and no hop.

If you do then your curves aren't correct..

I can fly or hover and hit the switch anytime as long as I am above center stick and you can't even tell... This is on my Trex and my cp pro... I run the exact same curves on both helis...

Ray,
Thanks for the reply...just wanted to say you guys have a neat site and kyle flys great. Hopefully soon I'll get half way to his skill level.

I'm such a dork. I just ordered that ultimate micro heli tote, the yellow body/canopy, carbon blades and a blade holder (plus an extra lipo). Nothing that will really change the way the heli flies. Just stuff to make it look cool when I walk into the local indoor heli flys. I'm such a dork.

If I can get to 1/4 of Kyle's skill level I will retire a happy old man. I introduced my 9 year old grandson to http://www.kylerocks.com/ . Now he wants to fly helis instead of my airplanes.

That't realy funny because my grandpa flys gliders and some electric planes and he got me into RC but then he took me to a fling field where they flew helicopters and now I have a BCPP. He wishes I would get into planes but o well. He still has my brother... Not if I have anyting to do with it. [>:]

sheesh! I thought of another question..... I'd like to do the DD tail mod now, but I'm not going to upgrade the gyro for a bit. I want to do it to hopefully avoid an inflight failure. Will I see any performance enhancement with this mod?

I went with the duel motors for now. I would like to do brushless later. My focus is on learning to fly this thing. Will do upgrades after I can keep it in the air thru a few battery packs.

The DD will work better with any gyro setup. Yes, even the stock gyro.

It's only like 16 bux for the parts...

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

I just flew it now and the tail seemed realy loose... I had the gain at only 15% because it waged. I sent JR an e-mail and they said 40% was good for the BCPP. At 40% it holds great but wags a lot. At 15% it wags a little but with almost no holding power... could it be my tail motor or is it just the gyro trying to correct it self?

Thanks,
Justin

Thanks, Rob! parts are on the way. $18 and change with shipping. Gotta love little helis!

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Wag is cause by high gyro gain. Motor won't wag on it's own or when it is going out. When it is burning out, it just keeps losing hold...

Beginner questions. Will the flat blades hover easier than sym. blades? Also will moving the arms in on servos to reduce throws help in the learning process? I flew a couple more packs yesterday and tail hold was pretty good after turning up gain a little more. Heli seems to wander all over and I'm wondering if I'm over compesating. Also should I be lubing linkages to reduce wear & tear. Thanks All!

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

I am using flat bottom blades. They are better for learning they handle wind better. I thought I needed to move the servo arms too. Seemed like I could not keep it in one place no matter how much I tryed. After about 20 flights (just hovering) I can now stay in my one foot box even with light wind. I am now moving forward and side to side. :D

Stick with it and follow Radd's school you will be ok.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Commander bob, are you using stock tail motor/prop? If so, upgrade to dd immediately with a hh gyro. I dunno why, but I had the same question with a zoom hh gyro and without dd, just look for my thread on ‘zoom hh gyro, please help’ or something like that. Before dd upgrade, I was able to maybe have around 25 gain but will not hold during climbouts and still needs revo mixing. I know kyle got it to work, but I didn’t.

Yes, I suspect that the 401 will hold better than the G90, but it’s the limited steps in the esc and the tail response that limits the heli even with a 401.

the stock gyro will hold considerably well with revo during throttle increase/decrease, but not when influent by the outside forces. With revo, the stock gyro/tail will hold considerably well during rolls/stationary roll, and maybe a forward flip, but not a backward flip as it cause the heli to kinda tailslide abit.

Ray, kyle’s lucky, he started about 6~7 right? I’m the ‘first-generation’ in my family and really have to pay for every penny myself. I started last July… think I’m doing pretty good, trying to get inverted hover down right now with the blade, it’s the only heli I’ve flown. Will get a rex. Yep, I saw the vid of nick Maxwell as well, very impressive. Is kyle running the stock 9t motor? or a bl? I still have one problem I think is the limitation of the motorized tail, I do have the dd (pusher prop). when giving right rudder-tail goes left, it won’t stop right where I want it unlike left rudder, it’ll go over abit and then wag a few times… and it still won’t hold rock solid during a stationary roll. I wonder how nick got his to hold so well even with bl main.

[quote] They are better for learning they handle wind better. [quote/]
no, sim blades will handle wind better, and give more headspeed, which ‘in theory’ should be more stable, and I like it that way since it also give faster cyclic. But most ppl like the flatties for learning.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

I need the help of all you CPP experts out there. I am a newbi to RC flying and I have been flying my cp pro for about 45 days now and with the learning curve of many crashes I have become quite proficient at taking the bird apart and putting it back together.

Now I have an issue I don’t know how to solve. I was flying the thing just hovering and the tail motor went out (or so I assumed). Went to the local HS and bought a new tail motor, replaced it and it still does not work. To test it I took a new wire and put in the 3 in 1, unplugged the main motor and turned it on and still nothing. The main motor works fine so I tried plugging the tail motor into the main slot to see if that would work and still nothing. Could I have just gotten a bad motor (any way to test this) or is the 3 in 1 bad. I would like the opinion of you experts out there before I buy a new 3 in 1 for $45.00 if that is not the problem. Oh yea, one last hint, just recently when I plug the battery in the main rotors jump and spin about 1 turn, this never happened before.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Try rigging up an AA battery to the tail motor to make sure it spins. It sounds like the 3 in 1 though if the main rotor spins when you plug the batt in.

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Zope pope is right! I use 2 AA batteries in series to test and break in my DD motor!

robmoney 01-15-2007 08:22 PM

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

Has anyone tried the 4040 GWS prop on the GWS DD tail motor yet?

If so, does it run the motor to hot?? Does it hold any better in fast climbout?

Rob

mstenzler 01-15-2007 09:01 PM

RE: E-FLITE BLADE CP PRO

i tested the motor with the AA battery and not only did the new motor work but the old one works too, oh well now i have an extra motor i'm sure i will need it someday. looks like i have to go buy a 3 in 1 tomorrow.... Thanks for your help zope.

next question, are all the parts for the honey bee cp2/blade cp interchangeable with the Blade CP Pro? is the DD that you guys are buying the one for the honey bee?
