New to electric. Went to local hobby shop to get a 2s 7.4v 300Mha. It only had two leads. I have read some articles about balancing cells, and asked the clerk about that. He said that you dont need to baleance a 2s pack. Yet I see on the Net a lot of 2s advertised with two leads and then an additional 3 or 4 leads, which I assume is for balancing. Hope some one can set me straight on this before I spend my money on something I don't need. slowgo

IMO
I would get the pac that has the Balance charge connectors.
The other pac probably will not last near as long. You will need
a Good Quality charger too. Hope that helps.

You could probably get by without balancing the pack. But, to follow the recommended course of action... to ensure your batteries will last longer.... you might want to return the packs without balancing leads and get ones that do have balancing leads. OR, if you're handy with a soldering iron and want the experience, you could add your own balance taps. While this is guaranteed to be more trouble than its worth, it is an option and you might choose that route if you were interested in learning. Of course, LiPos are a bit more volatile and sensitive to heat... with catastrophic results. You would definitely want to do some reading and learning before you tried to add them on your own.

I would agree. Get the balance taps =) A 2s with balance taps is 3 conductors jfyi, 3s is 4 ect. Basically you just add 1 to however many cells there are to get the number of conductors in the balance lead.
it wont cost you any more money if they are on there or not, but if they aren't on there it could cause you some damage to your rc or to your house. Granted 300mAh isn't too big, but as a general rule balance taps are better =)

Can anybody tell me where to go to learn about the liPo batterys? I keep reading about balancing, multiple leads, explosions, not letting them go below 30%, etc. I'm new to the hobby, learning to fly by myself on a Super Cub. I now want to upgrade to a 4 channel plane, and THINK I want one with LiPo's, but all of the rhetoric is scaring me. Is there a site where I can learn the advantages/disadvantages to these batteries.
Thanks;

most packs that small do not have balance taps.....
they are just really small...
also, if you are using a pack that small, it is assumed that you are trying to save weight....
so the balance tap adds more weight...
I am all for balancing and any and all of my bigger packs are balanced, but my 400 and 300mAh packs are not to save weight
