Do they exist? If so, any info or suppliers out there? I see that there are micro flight packs available. This is a small forum and I did not come up with any results. Thanks in advance, Joe

This is the smallest that I have come up with so far. It was listed on AstroFlights site. Its the Firefly Coreless Planetary Motor W/4:1 gearbox. Motor with gearbox is 14 grams. With a Gunther 5/4 prop and a 950mAh 2 cell Lipo it will deliver 7000 rpm @ 7 watts. It was listed under brushless, but the description does not mention it. Anyone familiar with it or mini brushless motors in general? Thanks, Joe

Feigao 1208436 12x30mm Brushless Motor,$40, sold by Balsa Products and Aeromicro. Fits GWS IPS gearbox same measurements as GWS IPS brush motor. Needs brushless esc such as CC Phoenix 10 , $60. Go to Balsa Products website for thrust tables by prop, voltage, gear ratio, etc. Somewhat better performance, much better durability than brush motor. Needs 3-cell lipo (11.1 volts) and propped for under 4 amps for best thrust with 8-10 minute duration. comparable to smallest direct drive outrunner motors in power outout .
I have one mounted in a GWS IPS A ratio geardrive. Hope to use it successfully in Guillows and similar scale rubber kit conversions with 7-8" props. There are some threads on this motor on E-Zone.

Thanks for the info, now here is the big Q. Whats it weigh? The FireFly comes in at 14 grams W/gearbox. Its going into a 3.6 oz. foamie. I'm looking at the Micro Joule flight pack currently as it will offer the weight savings that I'm looking for. I think the ESC, RX and two servos are under an ounce. Thats basically the type gear I'm looking for. The lightest standard gear wreaked havoc on the wing loading. I tried 370 Park on a D box, naros, Pheonix 10 and a 3 cell/720 mAh LiPo. Sure it hauled it around, but it flew like crap. I need to lose weight, and so does the plane. Joe

I just checked out the Feigao and it is 17 grams without gearbox, interesting. Now, compared to the FireFly, at 14 grams with gearbox, it is clearly lighter. Here comes the hard part, being E literate on all the performance stuff, I am now at a standstill again. I don't have a clue as to how they compare. Joe

The Firefly is NOT brushless. The Feigao motor is VERY powerful. Way more powerful than the Firefly, even with no gearbox on a GWS 3x3 or 3x2 prop. I haven't run the Feigao thru a gearbox yet, but a cool one is available at aeromicro - planetary, 5:1, weighs 2.0g - made for the IPS motor.

Thanks guys, I see that there are more options than I expected. Joe
BTW, are these motors compatible with the Cirrus micro flight packs?

have a look here....
I use an ALMOST unmodified CDrom motor
in an Ikarus Bleriot and it flies very nicely.
just finishing up a more robust version to put in my 3D Tribute.
if DIY is not your bag, the motors on Len's site are nicely priced.

AMA, thanks for the response. Guess what, I just returned from the NEAT fair. A little wetter than when I left, but with a bag of goodies. In that bag is a CD rom motor from JGRC. He came up from Tarpon Springs, Fla. and brought the rain with him. The motor is 20 grams and will spin an 8/4.3 prop, direct drive, yielding 14 oz. of thrust. A Worley 3 cell 340 mAh LiPo @ 30 grams, 3 mm prop adaptor and prop @ 6 grams, three Blue Arrow BA-TS-4.3 micro servos @ 10 grams, Pheonix 10 @ 5 grams, which I now realize I paid too much for the ESC and on top of that I already had one, oh well. So I am adding 2.5 oz to my 3.6 oz. frame and ending up with a total of 6.1 oz. AUW with 14 oz. of thrust. With the 176 sq. in. wing area, I may have found my combo. Can't wait to get busy, but that won't be untill next week. Later, Joe
Hold everything, I just realized that I weighed 3 servos @ 4.3 grams each and the scale gave a readout of 10 grams. Something is wrong here. I will still weigh in lighter than antisipated, but may have to go the post office for a good read.

Update on the CD rom motor. Turns out that one of the magnets was installed in the wrong direction, resulting in a faulty motor and a smoked ESC. Sent it back and am waiting on a replacement. Good news is that while I had everything together, I obtained an AUW on the plane. 7 oz. on the button. So with the projected 14 oz. of thrust it should do the trick. Waiting is not like flying, Joe

Okay, took 22 days to get my replacement on the CD rom motor. Wired it up and off to the field I go. The setup called for a 8/4.3 prop, direct. The best I could do was a 9/4.7 cut down to 8 inches. Vertical right out of hand. The 4.7 pitch proved to be a little too fast for the Mini Pigi. Now the diameter must be something different, as I used up the battery, 340 mAh 3 cell Lipo, in about 5 minutes. The motor was very hot. Second flight it came back in under three minutes. Now back at the shop, I noticed that the magnets do not have the bite that they once did. The motor now turns slowly in a jerky manner and smells like a H.O. train. Does heat effect the magnets? Oh well, back to the drawing board. I better look into that small Nippy Black. Joe

Got a kick out of the train analogy. I've done this many times. BOY these little motors run powerfully on 11.1v, for about 10 seconds! If only they could take it continuously.

Hi all,
I'm new here, mainly active at rcgroups. I'm not sure how many of you have seen this:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=280058
We are developing this 3.2gm BL motor, most issues have been ironed out and the motor is performing beautifully on the CCP 10 and the Smaller Jeti ESC's. Should be out soon[8D]
Happy landings,

Hi Uttam, I'm a big follower of your motors on RC Groups, and that motor looks awesome! I'm scratch building a 10" 3d model aiming for 35-40g AUW. Do you have a motor that would be suitable to power it? Ideally it would be 7-8g all up and give 60-80g of thrust. What do you think?
cumn thru, I've been doing alot of research on tiny motors for my project. 20g motors are now the norm, my shocky has a 20g C&K cdrom motor that give 400g of thrust on 3 cells, so it sound very similar to the one you got at NEAT! Using the GWS 8x4.3 15 minutes of proper 3d flight only makes the motor barely warm to the touch. Hope this helps. I tend to look on RC Groups Indoor and Micro Forum and if you do a 'Brushless' search there some very enterprising peple are building even lighter motors.
