Received our short kits and foam cores from Don at Eureka just before years end. Very happy with them. The cnc cutting was very clean and cores are excellent.
The wood selection was as good as it comes; very definitely 4-6 lb and grain was perfect.
Have the jig in place and the fuse front cage glued up. The sides are preped and will soon make an attempt at "bending " some balsa.
Received a new NEU motor with hyde soft mount for it along with some misc hardware.
Just want to say THANK YOU JEFF for giving us all a great looking design to build. It is just so much more "fun" to enjoy the frustrations of building rather than assembling.
Hope the new assignment in AZ is going well; is weather year round in that location?

BTW, Dale gave me some pictures from Walker , prob 90 - 91, where I was calling for you. I do not remember what created the expressions on our faces , probably just as well I don't.

Glad the kit looks good, I hope you enjoy the build. I am preping to build my new wings to get the bird back in the air. I just made new sockets since the carbon wing tube is still good.

I have had a lot of requests for built up wings for the Lightning... Both for shipping cost reasons and personal preferences..

Does anybody out there have a set of built up wing plans that is close the to lightning they can recommend? It will obviously be modified to be an exact duplicate of the foam wing, tube holes and all. The rib shapes are not a problem, they can easliy be produced. I come from a vintage pattern background, so not sure if the older wing construction methods would kep the F3A guys happy..

Another alternative would be existing wood wings which will work from another source, I can send customers to.

I'm happy to announce that built up wings will be available for the Lightning pretty soon now Dave Snow has agreed to modify one of his wing and stab sets to match the Lightning exactly. The all up weight with a Hacker C50 14XL, Hacker Spin 99 ESC, Power Unlimited 4900 batteries, and a 900 mAh receiver battery was 4612 grams as the NATs. This weight is also with an APC prop and a Tru turn spinner, which are not the lightest equipment. The key to making this kind of weight is to not allow and piece of wood that is not the lightest into the airplane. I weighed each part that went into my airplane. Out of all the wood I ordered, the difference between the two heaviest fuselage side sheets and the lightest fuselage side sheet was 3 ounces. Saving a gram here and there really adds up in the end.

As far as electric set ups, there are many good setups. If you are new to it, I would use a proven combination. There are quite a few threads dedicated to electric set-ups on this forum.

Will be purchasing the kit this week from Eureka Aircraft. Not sure if I am going with the foam core or balsa build up wings. Always had balsa ribbed kits but the foam wings doesn't look to hard to build. No vacuum bag system so I would need to just use weights. Also, I noticed the kit is available for either front mounted or rear mounted motors. So I am looking for advice here.

At this time I am not planning on competing(there are no competitions within 200 miles) Primarily sport flying and experimenting with beginner pattern flying, so I am not needing the hacker $800.00 motor. Hopefully something in the $200-$400 range:AXI, EFLITE 160, RIMFIRE, SCORPION etc.

As light as this thing builds, you will get very good performance even with an outrunner in the nose.
