I flew both Lightnings today. That makes 19 flights on the new one. Here are a few photographs:

well, first formers have been cut using CNC. Wing is going to be build using formers instead foam. i will try let it as light as possible.

With Jeff's coming in under 10 pounds I'm not sure a built up wing is required.......

Im really curious what the cost was, and all that, if you dont mind...

A friend cut it with a home made CNC. Very usefull and perfect finish, only require a little sand around borders. Looks like take out of a kit box?

Well, first pics of petrol version. DL 20 will be pushing in the nose. A bit smaller version than original. Wing formers has been cut too. As lighter as possible, with holes. All made in CNC, of course

Spent all week with Jeff in my group at the NATS. Pictures do NOT do this plane justice. It is a true work of art. On the official scales at the NATS he was 4612 grams. Incredible craftsmanship Jeff.

Well, like me, Jeff grew up building kit planes. (and like me, grew up REbuilding kit planes..)
The satisfaction is unmatched compared to any ARF.... isnt that right, Jeff

Viper, the 4612 g was with Power Unlimited 4900 batteries, 900 mah thunderpower RX battery, APC prop, and Truturn spinner. I weighed very piece I put into this airplane and only used the lightest materials acceptable for each application.

The Lightning flew very well at the NATS. My placing was a direct result of the way I flew, not the airplane.

Where you finished with this group this year, after being gone for a couple of years is truly a testiment to your building and flying skills. 10th in this years group is nothing to sneeze at, especially with the group you were in. Jeff flew extremely well all week.

The 4 rounds I called for him were without a doubt the best I'd ever seen him fly.

The second flight of the second day, I didn't see Jeff make over a .5 deduction per maneuver from take off to landing. The top ten were not seperated by much.

After reading Jeff's build thread and conversing with him as well as looking at Jeff's plane at the Nats I decided to build one. I got the plans from Jeff and have been working with a laser cutter here in the San Antonio TX area to cut the wood. Attached are the photos of the first short kit. I had him cut all but the fuse sides. Attached are the photos of the short kit.

When we cut the short kit, I had the cutter cut enough wood for me to build two canopies. My plan is to build one for the plane and one will be used for a plug to see if I can make a light fiberglass canopy. Attached are some more photos. One of the canopy frame work and then a few of the fuse jig.
